  1. Have you checked HALs FlightEase? Since you're already booked, just access the site, tap on the 3 horizontal lines at the top right of the screen, tap Already Booked, tap Manage my booking, log in, tap travel planning, tap pre and post cruise travel, tap flights. Enter your preferred departing airport. The rest is pretty self explanatory. I will say that summer airline travel has gotten pricey, but usually Flight Ease has better prices than you get going direct to the airlines, at least for international travel.

I am on a Norwegian Fjords cruise on the QM2 and the stop in Flam was of great interest to me.  Several weeks ago, I received an email stating Flam was removed from our itinerary due to the changes in the protocols.  I was disappointed but the other ports are still great.

What was the date of your Flam stop? The website Cruisedig.com shows QM2 arriving May 13th 2023. https://cruisedig.com/ports/flam-norway

  3. The reality is, since you're a month+ out, the cruise may not be truly sold out. HAL could just have closed new bookings while they assign guarantee cabins. You may see the itinerary open back up in a week or two. But if they've raised the price that much the sailing is pretty full. Have a wonderful cruise!

  4. All the OBC you get from HAL is definitely nonrefundable. Use it or lose it. DH and I were on Zuiderdam last month with a lot of OBC plus HIA including crew appreciation. 2 days before the end of the cruise we got a call from guest services reminding us to use the remaining OBC on our account and suggested the spa or the shops. We knew it was non refundable and had already had planned for some of it, but the call was a good reminder to go do a little retail therapy!

That is the policy but on our 4 weeks on the NA in Nov 2022 there were guests in the MDR on Dressy nights in shorts and T-shirt with writing and baseball hats and also guests in Tux - go figure.

On zuiderdam last month, men wearing shorts were turned away most evenings at MDR. Shorts were allowed only at breakfast and lunch. Oh, at dinner on the first and last evenings shorts were allowed.

I am not Bruce, but on my recent sailing on the Oosterdam I received full credits like Bruce.  Nothing showed on my Navigator statement about the HIA. And nothing, like what you posted from your cruse.   I figure since there is a cost associated with it it gets applied towards your Mariner credits.

    Like @travelholicsI received full credit.

Thanks kazu, travelholics, and cruiserbruce. I'm now cautiously optimistic!

We sailed for 18 days on N. Statendam this summer...got 52 credits with HIA and in a suite. We sailed for 14 days on KDam in Feb/Mar, got 42 credits...the maximum, in a suite and with HIA. We spent almost no money except our OBC of that cruise...no excursions.

I am not questioning the mariner credits you received. I would be interested in knowing how the HIA was reported on your statement and if it was recorded differently from mine. I'm wondering if each ship records it differently.

It has been well documented here that if you have HIA, and the things included DO count as spending for Mariner points. Remember, you limited to $300 per day in Mariner spending credits(one point)...one per day for being on the ship, one per day if you are in a suite, and one per day for spending.

Here's a page from our statement. It's hard to see how the Mariner society will assign

Cruise days when each day's HIA is listed as "marketing Promotion" and $0.00. If we do get credit for the HIA I will be pleasantly surprised and will come back and report.

HIA maximises the number of days credit much better than on board spend.  Presuming you were on a 14 day cruise, then with HIA you will be credited 14 days 'spend' credits.  For On board spend to be a similar level you would need to spend $4200 to earn the 14 days 'spend' credits.  14 days is the maximum that you can earn on a 14 day cruise. HIA on a 14 day cruise costs $700 (each for first two occupants).

A suite would give another 14 days.

To my way of thinking a suite and HIA would gain optimum number of 'days' at the best price.

DH and I were on zuiderdam for the Panama canal transit last month and had the HIA + crew appreciation as part of our cruise fare. We will probably NOT get any cruise credits for on board spending (other than spending our OBC). Our statement shows a line item of HIA promotion for zero $ for each day of the cruise. I don't know if any other ship is accounting for HIA this way.

Had booked on Noordam for the San Diego to Sydney cruise in October but then when ports were cancelled and substituted we

cancelled. Now we notice this has happened with Zuiderdam cruise to Fort Lauderdale.

We have a cruise booked on P&O Australia on the former Star Princess (now Pacific Encounter). Today we were advised that

Komodo Island was substituted with Lombok and also our Cairns overnight had been substituted with an additional sea day.

My feeling is that Carnival Corporate have directed brands to reduce port time and increase sea days to save fuel costs.

Doesn’t matter that many choose a particular cruise for specific ports that we wanted to visit. We are not the first consideration

    anymore.

I'm currently on the zuiderdam. HAL is not willy-nilly canceling ports. Cortino Nicaragua was canceled by the country. This affects all cruise lines. We found out prior to boarding. Huatulco Mexico was turned into a service call only due to a medical emergency the prior day requiring the ship to divert to a nearby port to off load a seriously sick passenger. The diversion, evacuation ( with zuiderdam medical staff) and re boarding of that medical staff took over 4 hours, putting us in huatulco the next day at approx 1130am. The ship had been scheduled to leave at 2 that day, so it was a short day to begin with. The ship had only enough time to send staff ashore to get the required documention to proceed to Guatemala. While disappointing to miss huartulco, we on board totally agree with the circumstances. God forbid it was any of us in dire need of serious medical attention we would hope the same decisions be made.

  11. Cabin pricing variation is basically location, location, location. Mid ship is more expensive. If there are public venues on the decks above or below a cabin, that cabin may experience more noise. Hence a lower price. Basically all veranda cabins are the same size inside. The exceptions are handicap accessible cabins that have more interior square footage. There are also differences in balcony square footage. Deck 4 on Vista class ships have deeper balconies. Aft verandahs have much deeper balconies. There are a coup!e cabins on deck 4 that have double wide balconies. All of these exceptions are why the square footage can vary.

I put the cruise in HOLD yesterday and keep getting an error when I try to price airfare.....I don't want to call LOL.  Is this normal?  Thx

Flight ease fares aren't available till 330 days (approx) prior to the end date of your cruise. For example, I was just able to search and book my flights for the first time today for a cruise leaving Sept 3 returning Sept 13, 2023.

  13. DH and I are booked for the Nov 17 Panama canal cruise, San Diego to Ft Lauderdale. On HALs website, tap "health protocols" at top of page. Then, under "at a glance", Tap " enhanced health protocols pdf". It will take you to a list of cruises with special requirements. The list only goes to January 3rd. find your cruise and Its enhanced protocol category (mine was 'general'). Swipe to the next page which will describe the protocol for each category.

We are on the same Panama cruise embarking in San Diego. We were able to book Rudi's for the first night in San Diego and the Pinnacle Gala for one of the port days (Costa Rica).  Those options are no longer available on the website to book but they still show up on our itinerary as being reserved,

Per the website, Pinnacle grill is available to book dinner every day of the cruise. Its not even displaying Rudis or the pinnacle gala. This is for the zuiderdam embarking Nov 17 from San diego. Are you possibly on the NA embarking in Oct? Rudis was originally scheduled for nov 22 on the zuiderdam. Pinnacle gala originally scheduled for Nov 28.
