  1. Thanks for sharing this - Wow - a whole day missing - and that is not the same as the 11/2 10-day cruise changes, since that cruise goes to Antigua.

I emailed her back saying 11/21 is an eleven day cruise. I don't know if I will get a response but I have to think this can't be right. They have the wrong original itinerary. I'm hoping she sends me a revised new itinerary that is 11 days.

  2. even wrote to the executive office, received an e-mail that said I would get a response back within 3 business days, and guess what, no response.

I sent emails today to Ewart and Stuart. I likely won't get an answer but I felt better saying something about how the communication has been about this situation. The Gem is the ginger stepchild, I guess.

  3. For the most part, I do think passengers on the heavily affected cruises have been patient and understanding. But the longer this waiting game goes on, the longer that patience is stretched and people stop listening to platitudes. What is the hold up? Why have other lines with ships sailing during this time secured ports and/or have more frequently updated their passengers on what is going on with their itineraries?

I am starting to think those on 2017 Gem cruises after 11/11 are on hold because NCL is trying to keep the original ports instead of re-routing us, which I feel very mixed emotions about TBH since most of the islands hit have little to no electricity nor drinking water and are still very much in recovery mode.

I would love for my cruise to mirror the 10/31 Gem cruise. I wish NCL had just gone ahead and posted new itineraries for all the 2017 Gem cruises. This slow rollout plus guessing game is exhausting my good graces toward NCL.

  4. I know my frustration actually increased after seeing the first two Gem cruises get their new itineraries while the rest of us on 2017 Gem cruises have to wait for who knows how long since the communication timetable they put in their passenger letters for updates don't seem to matter. I wish they'd announced all the 2017 Gem reroutes (like they did Escape cruises) instead of slowly rolling out the changes. If it's about mixed signals from the islands on if they'll be ready, then I think someone at NCL needs to take a firm stand about the rest of the 2017 cruises and then revisit speaking with those at the hard hit islands after the new year.

  5. Seems like Gem is the only ship left that is still in mystery. I am on 12/12 Gem and I hope they don’t send us to Florida and Nassau.

I am also on a Gem cruise later this year. It's interesting that's the ship that seems to be delayed regarding announcements. As most of the cruises are 10 or 11 days, I'd like to think it won't be a switch to Florida / Bahamas. I'm not concerned as yet about the lack of reroute announcement but it would be nice to have some idea for excursion planning. Anywho, I do wonder if the hold up with Gem cruise announcements is that some of the islands impacted have stated via news / tourism agencies about the desire to be up and running to receive cruise ships in some capacity by mid-November.

  6. I don't know where you are getting your numbers. I just went to ncl.com and my aft cabin without perks is $3043 and with the 2 perks UBP and dining package is $3292. the difference is $249. Pretty good deal all day.

I believe it is being based on the sail away guarantee pricing vs a category pricing with no perks.

For example, the 11/11 Gem sailing, a sail away balcony is $1099pp. the cheapest non-guarantee balcony is the Family Balcony at $1429pp. The sail away guarantee cabin pricing is generally several hundred dollars less than choosing a category cabin, which you have to do to even get any perks. So paying several hundred extra to even choose perks vs foregoing any perks and paying for things as used.

  7. Bermuda is very easy to do on your own. First two times I went there, I did enjoy snorkeling excursions (a low key traditional snorkel and the second time, a shipwreck snorkel) but after that, I have just bummed around the island on my own via bus and ferry. It's really about what you want to do. I don't think a beach excursion is worth it but a snorkeling or a catamaran excursion might be fun.

  8. You had me at soft drinks 😊. Are they complementary or do you need a soda card?

This sounds like a fun area. Yes, age is just a number.

Nope. There's a vending machine but the coffee machine, ice water, and tea plus pastries are complimentary.

I like the studios. The only issue I have is with the cabin door slamming (at least I did on the Epic several months ago). Other than that for me, they're great.

  9. I've seen mixed age range in the studios. My Thanksgiving cruise on the Epic last year seemed to skew over 40 from the people I came across.

I've a question... I've only stayed in the studio on Breakaway once a few years ago and last year I was on the Epic in a studio. The Epic has the changing lights in the studio but I don't recall that on the Breakaway. Did I just miss it or is that one of the additional unique features on the Epic?

  10. Hopefully on the St. Kitts day you were safely on board before the deluge arrived! I decided to head back out in the afternoon and ended up getting stuck out in it. There were a few drops following me as I made my way back to the ship, and it wasn't too bad. Unfortunately it grew super heavy very quickly. It was fun watching the Reflection sail away into the storm, with so many people out on their balconies in bath robes. Guess all those folks must have gotten as soaked as I did. I have to admit it was a little bit fun.

I got lucky. I was back from my excursion by then and shopping in the port mall when it hit. the shop owner where I was perusing for souvenirs let me use their super fast WiFi while I waited out the storm.

  11. Some general questions:

    • Was the Noodle Restaurant open for lunch on boarding day?
    • During the voyage, do they serve lunch?
    • What else besides noodles do they serve?
    • Does the menu change daily?

    Thanks.

    MARAPRINCE

Shanghai's was only open for dinner. It was open embarkation day.

The restaurant serves fried rice dishes too as well as standard Chinese restaurant appetizers.

    The menu doesn't change.

  12. The Breakaway pretty much crawls to Bermuda, stretching the journey there into two and half days from NYC so you shouldn't feel much movement at all (I've done four mid-June Bermuda cruises, three on the Breakaway). The return is speedier, so you may feel a bit more motion then but it is usually also more or less pretty calm with very little rocking.

  13. I did it last November on the Epic and it was a 5 hour excursion I did in the morning to afternoon (I think it was 9-2p).

It is absolutely gorgeous there. Fine sand. There's an open bar and a buffet included in the excursion price. Lots of tables, beach loungers, and even some hammocks. The day we were there had very rough waters & high winds so few people went in the water, most just lounged on the beach or by the food since there was still lots of sun to enjoy the day. We got about 90 minutes alone on the island before another excursion group of people showed up.

I would recommend it. Here's a short video I posted on my instagram from my day there:
