Having the same thing, I get 2-3 emails PER DAY telling me to update my stuff even though it's already done.

And I completely understand about the tech.  Hell, I'm an IT professional (in theory) and I'm trying to figure out ArriveCan and failing.

I’m certainly not an IT guy, but it’s strange to me that you can’t input your arrival date and time until EXACTLY 72 hours before arrival. I really don’t understand the logic of that restriction.

  2. Persistence pays off. Contrary to the first two answers I got from eMed customer support, I got an email this morning saying that yes, their results are always reported in UTC. He apologized for the first two inaccurate answers and any inconvenience it might have caused.

BTW, it may be the case that my mention that others on Cruise Critic had posted pictures of their test results showing UTC that sealed the deal.

    Thanks to all of you.

  3. So - my concern/question/situation is as follows.

In order to get our cruise on July 31, we are flying from Knoxville to Vancouver on July 29, flight at 5:40 a.m. (EDT). I’d rather test at home. To avoid testing at 12:05 a.m. on July 29 (we need SOME sleep before leaving for the airport at 4:30 a.m.), I’d rather test at home at 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. on July 28. If eMed does note that our test was on July 29 using UTC time, we are good to go. If eMed says that we tested on July 28, not so good. We CAN test when we get to Vancouver, but if the test is positive, I’d rather find that out in Knoxville than in Vancouver. I just wish eMed customer support would verify what people are telling me here about eMed using UTC time rather than my local time.

    Thanks for your patience.

  4. After submitting a question to eMed regarding how they report the time of the results of a test, they said their test results are always based on Eastern Standard Time, not UTC. Perhaps Jim_lain did not used eMed since he shows it as UTC time.

You can test any time after Midnight.     I did a test today 2:21 PM PDT and it reports UTC (previously called GMT or Zulu,  it doesn't take into consideration the time zone you are in.

So … To make sure I understand, if I test at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on July 28 (a Thursday)  the result would be reported as if I tested at 12:30 a.m. UTC on July 29 (Friday). I didn’t realize that the test time was reported in terms of UTC. That’s an important distinction in my case.

We sail this Saturday.   I took my proctored EMed test this morning at 6:00 am.   My wife took hers at 9:00 am.  Our results came to our email within 5 minutes.  The actual test took 25 total minutes, and 15 of those were just waiting for the test itself to get the results.  I had my morning coffee during that waiting period.

Unless I misunderstand our post, you took your test one day earlier than you should have. A Saturday sailing would mean you have to test Thursday or Friday. Wednesday would be  days before you sail, not 2.

I hope I just misunderstood what you wrote.

  7. I seem to recall that Celebrity used to show you how much remaining onboard credit was left in our account after using some of it (in our case for excursions). Am I wrong? If it can still be found how do you find it?

  8. The Rome airport isn't in Rome, per se. Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, officially Fiumicino (hence FCO for the airport code) is at some distance from Rome as well as from the seaport Cittavecchia. If you need to go directly from the seaport to the airport you could get a Celebrity transfer or arrange for a driver. No need to go to Rome if you're simply connecting to your flight.

  9. Well - you'd be expected to tip guide and driver for the Celebrity excursion as well. We used SPB years ago and we're very happy. In addition, I suspect that a tour with SPB would have far fewer people (I think we had 12), thus a bit more personal attention.

  10. The minibar/fridge itself is not included - so we had the butler empty it - we had premium beverage with the room so he took our card numbers and he replenished the drinks we asked to have in the minibar

I've never heard of a butler replenishing drinks that are included in a drinks package - premium or otherwise. Even sodas or sparkling water. Is this a new perk for suites?

  11. Our first cruise was on the Mercury in January 2003. Purchased a sky suite when we checked in (from a regular balcony cabin) for $110/person, as I recall. The veranda was HUGE! Our butler, John, helped me get into my tuxedo. We hosted 6 of our friends/fellow-cruisers on our veranda for a cocktail party.

We were spoiled. Experience unequaled until we lucked into the penthouse suite on the Azamara Journey, this time for $110 total upsell (not at checkin, however) for a 12-night Baltics cruise.

  12. We've always rented through Autoeurope.com. They show the rates from different rental companies. I just started a dummy booking for a week from FCO (using Aug. 6-13), and Hertz cost about $60 more than the least expensive. Autoeurope has a very good reputation and stands behind what they sell, regardless of which specific rental company you opt for from them.

A word of caution - if you've driven in Italy before, and specifically Florence, you already know that having a car in Florence is a pain in the a**. Very restrictive regarding where you can drive and park. And if you violate their restricted zones, the fines can be very high.

  13. Several years ago we (wife, grown daughter, and I) were booked in a larger veranda cabin on the Azamara Journey for a 12-night Baltics cruise. I noticed after final payment that a penthouse cabin was available, put it on a courtesy hold, had my TA handle the switch. It cost us an extra $110 total. I guess it wasn't a "true" upgrade, but it surely felt like it.

  14. Hi Terry -

Hope you're still following your blog here. Wife and I are scheduled to take the Transalpine/Jet Boat tour (on the Solstice leaving Sydney on Jan. 27) while in Akaroa. That's the good news. The potentially bad news - my wife has a pretty sensitive stomach/difficulty with motion sickness. She'll be on patches and bovine, but still is concerned that this excursion may be too much for her. I've invited her to look at your wonderful photographs and narrative, but she asked me to investigate just how rough the ride is on the jet boats. Can you give any guidance?

    Thanks in advance!

  15. Let's see if my effort a couple of months ago even has a chance of paying off. Unlike some have stated on this thread, we never received confirmation from LeClubVoyage that they had received our application for the upgrade offer for our cruise in Sept 2016 on the Quest. I just now sent an email to LeClubVoyage asking whether they had received it so that it could be put in a queue. If they didn't, all hope is lost.

Well not exactly lost. We'd just have to suffer with our veranda cabin that was already a "free" upgrade. But something better for $398 - you bet.

  16. We actually received an offer, via email, on our house during sailaway on the Summit last September. Accepted the offer, signed it. Took it to Guest Relations, they FAXed it back to our agent at no cost. Of course, YMMV.

  17. We were on the Journey a few years ago in St. Petersburg and docked on the Neva River almost across from the Hermitage. Spectacular. We were also there for White Nights!

  18. Still would be nice for Azamara/LCV to send an email to those who've submitted the upgrade form to acknowledge receipt of the same. Anyone at Azamara/LCV able to do this?
