  1. This is for a Viking River cruise from Prague to Paris. And yes, the longships are never far from a city center. I am not new to Viking, this will be my 7th Viking cruise. We all have our individual opinions and feelings about this type of request. Mine is that I do not wish to provide this personal information to a cruise company. I am well aware of my capabilities and limitations. I was just simply shocked this morning to receive this request...all because I am bringing a collapsible wheelchair on board. No special diet; no special needs on the ship. My Viking rep has indicated that I now do not have to complete this form so it's all good. The end.

Oh yes, and my Australian cruise is with Viking. Making it cruise #8 with this company.

  2. Thanks for the comments. I had to complete a fit for travel form last year after contracting COVID on a Viking longship. Understandably. I've had to provide information for my collapsable wheelchair, which is why I guess I was asked ot complete the form for this cruise. However I was never ask for this information for my upcoming Australian/NZ cruise! Where's the consistency? I understand the ocean vessels have a physician on board. I've never had to use the ship's physician, thankfully. I just really don't feel that Viking gets. to see this personal information. I carry my pharmacy's paperwork with me for any medications I may take. Sorry, folks, but I'm stumped about this request.

  3. Has anyone else been asked to complete a FIT TO TRAVEL form for a River cruise on Viking? They are asking for personal infomration such as medicines/dosages taken as well as a physician's letter statiing "fit to travel" for an upcoming river cruise. This seems a tad bit illegal. Even employers are not allowed to ask/have this information! What happens if I don't complete the form? Sorry, Viking...this is just crazy!

Another update: Just spoke with Steve..he's on the case! Thanks to all who recommended calling him.

    8/11 Update:

Steve contacted Travel Guard and we got an immediqate phone call and email from a claims adjuster. Seems they have some of our stuff as they indicated as much,  but we're not sure where the other receipts went after submitting on their online form. So, once aqgain we've spent a few hours redoing our claim from May 2022. Just sincerely hope that we don't have any further issues and get payment before the end of the year! Even though they said they paid the luggage claim, we  have not received the check to date. So two claims...no money yet. *sigh*

A small update - Received an email that our small claim for damaged luggage was received and paid - no check received to date. Finally broke down and contacted Steve to see if he can help us. Travel Guard is not returning our emails or processing our May 14 claim. Will keep you updated as things progress.

Please read my recent thread  Just off Viking Rhine Getaway - Ask Away

One update: I said Netherlands require all passengers and crew in planes flying out of and into Netherlands to wear masks. Mask are required at Schipol airport; staff hand out free disposable masks.

That was an EU regulation that has been dropped since we flew on 30 April, but individual airlines may choose to continue to require mask wearing.

The restrictions on Viking were not onerous and one had the reassurance that people with whom you shared dinner tables had all passed a PCR test that day.

Not really, unfortunately. You are responsible for delivering your saliva test to the front desk before breakfast. In my case, I did not hear I was positive until the next evening during the port talk for the following day. Well over 30 some hours later.

My husband and I are currently on a Viking ship and tested positive for covid and are in isolation. They are making us as comfortable as possible but obviously this is not what we planned. Does anyone know if we will get any kind of refund or credit?

If you have Viking insurance, they will cover your hotel, food and air expenses. If you have other insurance or no insurance you are on your own to pay up front for the same. Your passport and air will be flagged and after 10 days you can reenter the U.S. with a doctor issued fit to fly document. I have written to Viking about our recent COVID experience but have not had the courtesty of reply from them so cannot answer what they may or may not do.

I'm on a Viking cruise (Amsterdam to Basel) right now. I believe they're only doing 3 days of testing; this was the last day so I'll confirm that tomorrow. I heard 6 people have left, but I don't know if that's because of covid or other reasons. Masks are required on the ship. It doesn't seem to really be enforced but people are respectful for the most part. One person wears a mask that says masks are useless and one couple, the only ones on the bus without masks, bragged about not wearing masks and getting dirty looks. I guess they feel proud or something. We're supposed to wear masks on excursions too. Today we did Marksburg Castle; the guide reminded everyone to wear masks on board and then basically said do what you want at the castle. Most people didn't wear masks, although the castle guide did. The tour was mostly outside. I was a little undecided about the indoor parts for myself, but these are weird times. We're a family group so we haven't been sharing tables with strangers or anything. I've heard some people had to leave but no idea if that's covid related. Anyway, for the most part, I feel like people are being reasonably respectful of others.

If you see trays in the hallways outside of cabin doors, those passengers are in quarantine until they can be removed from the ship.

  9. I coontracted COVID while on the Sigrun. Not a fun way to spend my much anticipated vacation. It's difficult to  social distance on a river ship. You sit with 6-8 people at every meal; and ride with 40+ on every bus. It was hit or miss with the crew wearing masks correctly. Daily testing. If you see trays in the hallway, you know they are quarantined until they can be removed from the ship. You are then removed to a sub-standard hotel to wait out a negative result or your 10 days required to re-enter the U.S. Not sure what you are looking for, as far as restrictions but there you have it.

  10. It's a long time to wait, but we are excited to say we have deposited for this amazing cruise! I can honestly say I'm not looking forward to the long flight, but that's part of the package if I want to see Australia & New Zealand. Who else will be joining this cruise? Don't forget to sign up for the Meet & Mingle!

  11. We are currently booked on Viking Jupiter, Iconic Western Mediterranean, Feb 23, Rome to Barcelona, arriving in Rome of Feb 21. Anyone else? Any helpful hints on this itinerary are appreciated. This is our 3rd Viking Ocean cruise and have completed 2 Viking River cruises.

  12. Dunca - we are currently looking at a February 2019 cruise aboard Jupiter. I was just looking to see if there was any activity here yet. Will keep you posted if we end up booking! Are you booked yet?

    Have a great cruise!

Thanks! Done. When I searched Roll Call and didn't see it, I only went to Carnival, instead of Carnival Glory Roll Call. My apologies.

  14. Just booked this great vacation - 302 days to go! My adult daughter is my travel buddy and we are looking forward to taking this itinerary. We have not been to Grand Cayman, Roatan or Belize, but this cruise will solve that! I will also try to set up a Meet & Mingle for us as well. Let's get this cruise conversation going!

  15. EMPRESS REPLACED with MAJESTY on our October RCCL cruise to Cuba. I believe they are still using Empress to shuttle relief supplies to Puerto Rico and the other islands affected by the hurricanes this past summer. I am not sure it matters to you, but I would expect your cruise might be on Majesty too.

Thanks for the info Dinkachu. Hopefully RCCL will advise us if this is the case for our May 31 cruise so we can update our shore excursion information for plans made outside of RCCL. I imagine that Majesty is in the same class of ship, set up the same so there shouldn't be any other issues to deal with such as cabin assignments, dining, etc.

  16. Artbcpa - I just wanted to say thank you again for all the information you have shared. We are 111 days away from sailing Venice to Athens and are really getting excited now! Your perspective on the ports, dining and excursions will be very helpful to us as we make our decisions after the first of the year. Best wishes to you and Ellie for a very happy holiday season and new year! I see you are sailing again soon. Bon Voyage!
