Do you have a screen shot or copy of that to share?  If its floating around, you must have seen it?

I did see it. And Jimbo is correct. I don't have a copy, I didn't feel the need to save it. Carnival cancelled all shows and filled in the entertainment with different events. I'm thinking Mike Pack may have even mentioned it on his Facebook, but I could be wrong about that.

Have you been on the Horizon since this happened?  Do you personally know that the shows were cancelled since then?  Since thousands of people are on it every week since December and not 1 person has come on here to say there were no shows, I am going to go with my first thought of the shows went on after that particular sailing.

With those who complain simply over tablecloths or pillow mints no longer on board, I am confident we would have heard of the shows being cancelled on peoples cruises on the horizon...  Carnivals newest, biggest,  largest ship.

All shows, land based or cruise based, practice together as a team.   Things happen all the time to performers...you cant cancel upcoming shows because of it.   There are contingency plans.   We were just on the Legend in August, one of the main performers in the shows got sick a few days...the shows still were performed, just without that person.

The shows were cancelled last week for whole sailing. There has been a letter from Carnival floating around on Facebook directly related to it.

  4. I haven’t been on the Vista/Horizon yet. I have Havana interior booked for January 26th. Probably the most excited I’ve ever been about a room and it’s an inside. I will spend most of the time in the Havana area and I won’t miss the balcony at all. Wife and I both get tired of the madness of the pool area. But we don’t want to totally be cut off from people, drinks and good conversation. So it will be worth every penny.

  5. I tried searching but couldn't find anything, sorry!

Trying to decide if it's worth $700 to upgrade from our regular interior to a Havana interior? We hate how crowded the pool gets.

I've never had one, but I upgraded for my cruise on the Horizon in January. I upgraded without even asking the price because I already knew it was worth it. And that's based on reviews on here. I don't think I've seen anything negative. They were sold out for my sailing and I checked 6 times a day praying one would open up. And thankfully it did.

  6. OK so let me get this straight. You’re telling her to buy a medical only plan which would cover pre existing conditions and doesn’t matter when she makes payments on the cruise. Then she MIGHT have trip cancellation coverage based upon if she charges the entire trip on the same CC that has that. However, if she doesn’t buy the medical plan, then she still has no coverage for the things that are important to her. That makes sense.

Or she can buy the Nationwide plan with which they will be covered for pre existing conditions as long as she hasn’t made final payment. That’s a fact. She will also get all the other benefits like TC/TI regardless of how she paid for it - multiple CCs, gift cards, whatever. That makes sense too.

I still don’t see how I was off topic in saying that the Carnival CC wasn’t my go to card when in fact in that same post I stated CC insurance no matter what card I used would be useless to me and many others that take advantage of the $100 off $500 Amex charges since we oftentimes spread our payments over multiple Amex cards. It wasn’t so much bashing the Carnival Card (although I honestly do feel it’s a very subpar card) as saying that insurance isn’t even a consideration or option. Some people get so defensive about the Carnival card or even a particular brand of anything like the cruise line itself that as soon as you say something not flattering about it, you get jumped.

Its off topic because your post literally had nothing to do with the question she asked. I don't care if you don't like the card, it IS sub par compared to others. No denying that either. I'm not telling her to do anything Again, I have said MULTIPLE times that she has options that she needs to research. You're filling this thread with trivial opinions when the OP completely understood what I meant from the original post. Its not up to you or myself to decide what is best. Its just our part to get her the information she needs to make an informed decision based on what her needs are, not your opinion.

She also stated that she made the entire payment on her Carnival Credit card.

  7. You have thoroughly confused me. Let’s see.

Carnival CC insurance does not cover Medical payments or evacuation so that’s not helping the OP as far as those things. I’m guessing it doesn’t cover the cell phone either. You also need to charge your entire purchase on it.

Nationwide Choice Cruise does cover those things at a decent amount. Medical $100,000 Evac $500,000, Trip Interruption/Cancellation, Baggage delay/loss, Travel delay, Missed connection, etc. No idea on the cell phone. Leave it in the safe and don’t worry about it. Pre existing conditions ARE covered as long as you purchase the policy prior to final payment which they haven’t made yet.

So I still don’t see where the CC coverage answers their question or would be useful to them as far as medical, evac, and pre existing conditions.

It doesn't cover medical, and that's what I have said at least twice. That why she needs a medical only plan that covers what the CC insurance doesn't cover. She already has trip cancellation coverage via her credit card that is well within what most need. As I said, it does NOT have medical plan. A medical only plan cost $30-$50 compared to a Nationwide plan which will likely be near $200 for coverage that she already has for free from her credit card. Again, this isn't for everybody. It depends on how and when they booked and paid. And not all the plans cover pre-existing, and the lookback may be up to 60 or 90 days which can be an issue for some.

  8. I see no mention of evac or medical coverage under Carnival’s credit card insurance. You mentioned that in your previous post (#13) and that’s why you buy a separate medical coverage since the CC insurances do not offer that. In fact the CC insurance only offers trip interruption and accident insurance which is not medical payment or evac related. So again, I suggested Nationwide Choice Cruise in my post previously which does have all those things. CC coverage doesn’t even come close.

I literally said that in the first sentence of my post:'):'). Nationwide cruise insurance's caps are lower than the ones offer by Blue Cross Blue Shield at a fraction of the cost because its not comprehensive but also would NOT cover pre-existing because it has to be purchased close to the original payment for that to be even and option. But the separate medical plan only does cover it. And again, many credit cards offer this benefit. Its not groundbreaking new stuff. It was an option for the OP to investigate. Trip cancellation/interruption is minor compared to what the costs of EVAC would be if needed. The Carnival CC offers $1500 pp in trip cancellation coverage, and essentially its free. Also covers baggage lost.

This doesn't work for everybody, its just an option that is catered to what the OP needs, other than the cell phone. I have no idea what she can do there except that it may be covered under cell phone insurance or homeowners. But the cost of the cell phone is minor compared to a $500,000 emergency evacuation.

  9. If you want to talk about getting off topic, then the mention of insurance through any credit card is just that. They weren’t asking about CC insurance as we have no idea how they paid, but whether or not Carnival’s was good or should they use another 3rd party due to preexisting conditions, the timeframe that they put the deposit down, and concerns over a cell phone having coverage. Sounds to me as if they are looking to purchase a plan. So as long as we’re talking about CC insurance, I simply stated why I and possibly many others would be unable to use it as we don’t pay for our bookings with one CC no matter which brand it is.

If it was off topic, how did it answer the OP's question? Which was stated by the OP. And that's exactly what I stated. She is interested in a higher amount in EVAC insurance and health insurance due to a pre-existing issue, which is also covered under these plans. Oh course I don't know the details of her booking, and its none of my business. But I gave her options, and that's what she was looking for. Carnival's insurance did not give her enough for her needs, and comprehensive insurance may be less important to her.

  10. I also have the Carnival Credit Card but it’s pretty much useless as far as getting points. There are much better cards out there. However, I have been taking advantage of the $100 off a $500 reservation with my 5 Amex cards so the Carnival card isn’t even on my radar no matter what insurance they offer. When the Amex special isn’t there I buy the discounted gift cards. So to me any CC insurance isn’t an option and certainly not worth forgoing my significant savings.

I still for the life of me can’t understand how people get so off topic on this message board. And I clearly noted that other credit cards offer the same thing, not just the Carnival card. I used that card as an example to help answer the question because this policy offers a substantially larger amount of coverage. And that’s what the OP was asking for. This wasn’t a debate over which card was better.

  11. I hope it's ok to post this here and not on the other board where there is other insurance information, but I need

    Carnival specific insurance information.

My husband has some health issues and therefore we need the medical evac and the medical insurance (just in case)

as well as not be excluded because of pre-existing conditions.

I'm in a time crunch because I've waited until the last minute to decide what to do. We put our deposit down almost 2 weeks ago and I know if I'm going to purchase outside insurance I need to do it immediately to avoid the pre-existing clause.

It seems to me that Carnival's insurance payments are low at $10,000 medical and $30,000 evac. The good thing is though we don't have to purchase their insurance until right before final payment vs. purchasing outside insurance now.

If any of you have had to use Carnival's insurance, will you please give me some insight on how things went and also any of you who maybe had to use outside insurance.

I've always purchased outside insurance in the past and the only reason I'm questioning this now is because of a stolen cell phone on my last cruise that was not covered by my outside insurance (electronics were excluded) but my PVP tells me that it would have been covered under Carnival's insurance.

I've even thought about purchasing outside insurance for my husband and Carnival insurance for myself?

    Thoughts please?

    Thanks in advance!

Because my credit card offers some trip insurance, which does not include medical I don't buy comprehensive travel insurance. I have the Carnival Credit card, and it offers just as much trip cancellation as many comprehensive polices as long as I pay for the entire cruise with the card. And many other credit cards offer this same thing. I purchase separate medical travel insurance through Geo Blue Travel Insurance. It is a Blue Cross Blue shield company and it covers pre-existing medical, and the coverage limits are massive compared to the comprehensive insurance policies. And the cost is substantially less. You should really give this a look. It is only for international travel, which is all you need. I found out about it through http://www.insuremytrip.com.

Thankfully I haven't needed it, but the limits are adjustable to what you need for much less. I think it covers like $500,000 in EVAC and I got $1,000,000 in health insurance for $36 for the week. Check and see what your credit card offers first, and then look at this. You can book this close to the trip.

  12. My husband and I sailed on the Magic in November, and it’s a great ship. The food is really good and there are a ton of options of places to eat and types of food. You won’t go hungry, that’s for sure.

I can’t speak as to what there will be for your daughter to do, but you might want to contact the Carnival Special Needs department. You can find their contact information on the Carnival website.

As far as coffee is concerned, the free stuff on the lido is decent. There is also a coffee bar with more gourmet (for a fee) coffee, but due to the fact that I can only drink decaf, I’ve never tried it. But I know that others love it.

Good luck, and enjoy your cruise! The Magic so far has been our favorite ship that we have sailed on. Though that might change in a couple months when we sail on the Horizon. [emoji6]

The specialty coffee shop serves decaf regular coffee and decaf espresso drinks. I'm a decaf drinker as well.

  13. What do you have to back up that statement? Just curious lol.

    I’m curious also

Pay no attention to this poster. They seem to only be interested in trolling and anti Carnival. There is nothing wrong with the coves. However, they are very shaded. But they're close to the water and offer an amazing view of the water and the port activities.

  14. and when the bottom line gets skewed because too many people are sharing... they WILL raise the price.

And give them more reason to share? Frankly I don't care, I'll do what I want. Either you can afford it or you can't. And if they price it too high it will no longer be popular to a "value" cruise line. This is already becoming the case especially compared to NCL that offers it for free. That's why they "enhanced" the package to $50 per drink and and the little odds and inns.

  15. I totally disagree with the responses in this thread. Although they may not have the exact same ingredients, these mixologists can really surprise you with what they can bring together. Their bars are stocked with more ingredients than any other bar on the ship. And they are all about making custom drinks. They get very bored with Carnival's menu. I have been a bar flower at the Alchemy since the beginning and they've always amazed me with new stuff. In fact, Miro often brings liquor that he purchases on his own to make drinks.

  16. right...

the only thing it hurts is the bottom line of the cruise line so inevitably they will raise prices to match the price point they want to keep.

so it only really hurts the people that are honest , but who cares about them anyway

I mean the smugglers hurt the honest people who just wanted to take their brand of water on board... Carnival will eventually catch up to this too

Just as SaltyDingo stated, they're expecting people to share and to avoid hurting the bottom line they require both to purchase it. Just as in groups on 30 or more, erybody is required to buy it and the children are required to buy the bubbles package. Deterrence is only defense again this as they will offset the money made on the package to extra security to monitor it.

I've seen a security guard approach a college age person as she was handing off her drink to a friend after rounding the corner so the bar tender couldn't see her. They informed her that she would lose her drink package if she was caught again sharing. I believe that they might watch younger adults more. I don't think they would follow a 60 year old to see what they did with their drinks. Also, they can tell how close together you buy your drinks. They know a reasonable time it takes to consume a drink. If you go back to soon, they will get suspicious.

Its also entirely possible that the guard was concerned about underage consumption.

  17. Carnival has clearly recognised that sharing will take place... that is the only reason for their "everyone in the cabin must buy" policy. Grandma can buy drinks and hand them to anyone she wants as long as there is a bit of discretion. They don't follow you around to see what you do with your drink.

You may want to swap grandma out for the other drinker on the reservation. That way you can avoid the sharing issue. Grandma can still sleep where she wants... They don't prevent people from sleeping in another cabin than they are registered in.

I'm honestly curious if anybody has gotten caught sharing. Its very difficult to think that they have the manpower to be able to monitor this. Or is it basically up to the bartender to make sure its sold to the correct person.
