  2. Go out of Victoria. Short run to the San Juan Islands if the Orca's are in the area. Tour operators are pretty good about letting the rest of the boats know where the Orca's are active. There are also Minke's in the area. This past summer there were a number of Humpback's between Port Angeles and Victoria. Food must be plentiful for the Humpback's to stay in the area instead of heading to Alaska for the summer.

  3. Mini-suite several months ago and the bed was very comfortable. That being said, the pillows were not that great. They seemed to deflate quickly and even when using two pillows just didn't offer the support we would have liked.

  4. Uber plus a nominal tip for the driver is cheaper than a taxi and way less expensive than the ships transfer service. We used Uber at Ft. Lauderdale in October. As we cleared Customs, I ordered a Uber and within moments received a phone call from the Uber driver. He said he was pulling up to the pick up area and described his vehicle. I immediately spotted him, waived him down, he loaded our bags and off we went to the airport. Uber plus tip for the driver was $20.

  5. We did the Coral from LA to Ft. Lauderdale 9/27/2017-10/12/2017. The Viva Tequila Experience was recommended to us by friends so we booked that excursion for Puerto Vallarta through the ship. You are picked up what I would describe best as a trolley type vehicle. You are driven towards the main part of town and then along old cobblestone streets to the Viva Tequila Museum where the trolley stops and servers bring margaritas to those that want one for the ride through more of the city. Eventually you end up back at the museum where you are taken in small groups through the museum where you are shown via videos the history of tequila and the production process....and then a tequila tasting which is probably about a standard shot glass. As the groups work their way through the museum you are taken to a large auditorium where you are provided a tray containing three different types of tequila in small proportions. A person from the museum provides a narrative about the tequilas as you sample each type. After this there was a very nice Mexican folklore dance and music presentation. The dancers and musicians put their heart and soul into this show and it in itself was worth the price of the excursion. Next was lunch where you are led several blocks from the museum to a beach side restaurant called the Mango. You are served your included in the excursion per-ordered lunch choice that you selected prior to boarding the trolley at the pier. Lunch was excellent and I did not hear anyone complain about their food or the service. After lunch you are given some time to wonder around the local streets until it's time to return to the museum where you once again board the trolley for the ride back to the ship. My wife and I both agreed that for the price of $59 per person it was one of the best excursions we have taken in a very long time and well worth the price.

  6. Yes WSP. Just retired a year and a half ago. Will definitely go to that viewing area! Thanks for the food advice! I would rather not look through blue glass while in the locks.

  7. Retired1064.....WSP by chance? Anyway, wife and I did the eastbound Coral Princess on 9/27-10/12/2017. We had a Baja forward mini-suite on the starboard side. We normally spend a lot of time on our veranda but for this cruise we spent almost every morning after breakfast on the promenade deck in a lounge chair enjoying the view and warm weather.

     

    For the canal, Caribe and Baja forward observation deck is open. You just go forward to a door that looks like maybe you should not go through it...and go through it. There is one more door and that takes you to the outside. For some reason, Coral does not allow passengers onto the open bow during the canal transit.

     

    As a side note: After having dinner in the dinning room for the first ten days and the menu starting to become a little too similar we opted for having dinner in the Horizon Court. To our surprise the food, variety, quality and service made for a nice dinning experience. As always, food is subjective but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

  8. If for some reason your stateroom is not ready when you embark the concierge will take your carry on luggage and store it for you so you are free to explore the ship. If I remember correctly, the Neptune Lounge hours are between 7AM-7PM. The concierges will also take care of any special requests you have instead of dealing with the line at the Front Desk. This includes booking spa and specialty dinning reservations.

     

    Not sure of the Amtrak schedule from Bellingham to Seattle but one of the "perks" of being in a Neptune Suite is if you are at the terminal prior to official embarkation you will have a special area set aside that provides light refreshments and you will be one of the first passengers aboard the ship....usually at 11:30am.

  9. I realize that the ships crew is constantly changing given the contracts they are working. We are on the Coral for the Sept 27, 2017 sailing from LA to Fort Lauderdale via the Panama Canal. We have the AIBP and are looking for recommendations for a great bar tender who might be on this cruise and will provide us with excellent service along with being great to hang out with during our visits to his/her bar.

  10. The cruise parking lot is on the north side of the Magnolia Bridge and maybe a 5 minute drive to the cruise terminal which is on the south side of the bridge. Shuttle service is provided between the two locations and run often. No need to drop luggage off at the terminal unless you want to.

  11. Thanks for the update Copper10-8. Wife and I will be on the Eurodam 8/4-8/11/2018 to Alaska. We are going back one more time so Barb can get a coffee cup from Juneau to complete her collection from the Alaskan ports we have visited over the years.

  12. Pier 91 which is in the area the locals call Smith Cove and right next to Shilshole Bay Marina at the foot of Magnolia. At one time Pier 91 was used as a Navy pier and during the construction of the Cruise Terminal a DOD team had to come in and remove ordinance that had been dumped over the sides of various Naval vessels.

  13. What ever the problem is, the Coral is still along side the pier as of 6:45pm Eastern time. Been watching the webcam and the engines had started around 6pm along with some bow thruster action and two of the three aft mooring lines pulled in. Since then the two aft lines have been re-secured to the bollard on the pier.
