  1. The NCL website does indeed show the Tracy Arm and Glacier Explorer tour out of Juneau. There are two versions of this excursion one for the Jewel and one for the Pearl. The only time the tour is not offered is during early May and late September due to low light levels.

I have done the one for the Pearl and it was the highlight of our trip - Sawyer calved several times while we sat in front and watched and listened. :)

No doubt NCL offers the small boat glacier excursion out of Juneau for the Jewel. I've checked the Juneau excursion offerings over and over during the past several months hoping it would show up. It just isn't showing as being offered on the June 4th sailing we are on with Juneau coming on June 7th.

  2. The ships are similar so go with the one that has the itinerary that suits you best. I haven't looked lately but I think one goes to Glacier Bay and the other goes to Sawyer glacier.

If you go to Sawyer, you should take the special small boat excursion that goes to the glacier, otherwise you won't see much.

We are booked on the June 4, 2016 Jewel and checking excursions there are none listed for a small boat excursion to Sawyer Glacier on the NCL site.

  3. Awesome way for NCL to confuse the passengers but I'm sure it makes perfect sense to NCL. I just checked our documents and I did not see any reference to the UBP or SDP but then again maybe that is because we have a forward Penthouse. With that comes all four perks as if they are really "free". I suspect that the issued key card will have the required information on it.

CollW1983, wish you well and that your cruise exceeds your expectations.

  4. I've seen this question asked several times over the past several months...does anyone have information about when the NCL Panama Canal Fall 2017 schedules will be made public? Princess and Holland America have not posted their schedules either so I wonder if they have an agreed upon release date among themselves.

I've been in contact with my NCL PCC and even he is surprised the schedule has not been posted.

  5. Trying not to hijack the original post...but I've tried for the last month to do the prepay and it won't let me. No biggie thought as I will continue to try and if all else fails I know they will get me at the end of the cruise. :D

  6. We are in a forward Penthouse on the Jewel and 62 days away from our cruise. I just tried to prepay our service charges via my NCL account. I get this message "We are unable to display this option at this time." Is there a reason why I can't prepay?

  7. I have done both Marv & Harv plus Orca Enterprises with Captain Larry. Mary & Harv is better in the fact that they take less people...but as you say, they have an age limit.

Captain Larry does a great job but does carry more passengers although his boat is really fast and actually passed the Marv & Harv boat I was on. When I went with him, they allowed people to go onto the top deck (with railings) for a better view. He also allows younger kids.

  8. If you are traveling light then taking the Link Light Rail is no problem from SeaTac to downtown Seattle. Keep in mind that from SeaTac Baggage Claim to the Light Rail Terminal is approximately a 1/4 mile walk. The closest stop is underneath Nordstroms with an escalator and elevator available to reach the street. Not sure where you are staying but keep in mind that there are several areas where less than desirable people hang out along Pike Street.

If you decide to walk to the cruise terminal, there is a foot bridge you can use to avoid walking down hills, crossing over Alaskan Way and into the Pier 66 Terminal.

Walking the Seattle Waterfront is a must....along with paying a visit to the Pike Market. If you are really into Starbucks, the original Starbucks is right across the street from Pike Market.

  9. Only a guess on my part but I would imagine that you should be able to hand your luggage over to a porter/stevedore/longshoreman upon arrival to the Bell Street Cruise Ship Terminal. As debarkation will be almost ended the terminal will be open but not accepting embarkation passengers quite yet. As always, its a hurry up and wait situation will all cruise lines.

If you don't want to wait around the terminal you can walk along the waterfront, stop and get something to eat, people watch, etc. Not knowing if you will have carry-on luggage it's a fairly easy walk to Pike Market. Lots of vendors at the Market and across the street is the original Starbucks if interested.

  10. This photo was taken from the Ft. Casey Campground, Coupeville WA @ 6:04PM. The three ships in the photo all had a 4PM Seattle departure time. By approximately 6:45PM they were in pretty much open water with Port Angeles Washington on the port (left) and Victoria British Columbia/Vancouver Island British Columbia on the starboard (right).TEG_5288-1.jpg-Watermark.jpg.614f1827fa507d83e6f8870f6ce64c59.jpg

  11. The bow should be open to passengers during the canal transit, at least our Princess cruise was. If things run normal, be forewarned it will be hot and humid during the transit and you could have a sudden shower or to.

We will be doing another Panama Canal cruise in the fall of 2017. Our current plan is to take NCL Pearl or Jewel with the west to east route.

  12. I wish NCL would offer the no frills at a lower price. We take the UBP as our perk but I really don't drink so if NCL offered no frills at a lower price I might actually save money by just buying drinks as we go.

NCL offers a "No Frills" pricing option and yet people want a lower price. Where does it end? Oh wait, how about NCL pay us to cruise with them!!

  13. No frills pricing.....not sure I understand your point. If you want to cruise as inexpensively as possible then you have that option. You still can buy drinks, go to specialty restaurants and do excursions. That is the way other cruise lines do it as I understand.

NCL also offers the opportunity to pay more for add-on frills. Yes, their drink package is rapidly increasing in price. Will their specialty dining package increase also, that remains to be seen.

People that are interested in cruising with NCL are being offered choices. Book what you want and be done with it. If you are no longer happy with NCL then you know how to remedy the problem...cruise with another line.

Unfortunately, NCL is a profit driven corporation. If people don't like what is happening with the current management style and changes being made then the profit margin is going to show it. Stockholders will not be happy and a change in management will occur.

BTW....I am NOT a fan boy of NCL. We do have a cruise booked with NCL for this June after a 20yr break from cruising with NCL. We have been loyal Holland America Line cruisers along with cursing with Princess and Royal Caribbean. We are giving NCL another opportunity to impress us prior to booking a 2017 Fall Panama Canal cruise with in-laws. Depending how the June cruise goes will depend if we cruise with them again.

  14. My wife and I are long time Holland America cruisers. For a change of pace we decided to cruise with NCL after a twenty-year absence in anticipation of a 2017 Panama Canal cruise with family and friends. I booked our June Alaska cruise on the Jewel through an on-line agency with no issues. Our forward penthouse was priced the same with NCL but the on-line agency offered a $300 OBC plus the standard four suites perks.

My first good experience with NCL customer service was when I called the Excursions Department. My phone call was answered quickly with maybe a two to three-minute hold time. I made my excursion reservations and while still on the phone with the representative I received an email confirmation of my bookings.

Next good experience was yesterday when I called the Concierge Department to make our Specialty Dining reservations. We are 99 days away from our sail date so I was not sure I could pre-book but I figured I would give it a try. My phone call was answered in less than a minute after a momentary hold time. I provided the representative our reservation number, she confirmed it and said that she would be more than happy to book the dining for us. As she was confirming the locations and times I received an email confirmation.

After reading so many negative reviews/comments about NCL as a whole and especially their customer service, I would say my experience is absolutely positive. I hope this trend continues and look forward to a wonderful cruise on the Jewel. :)
