  1. Attitude is everything...:)

I'm stealing this quote. It takes a lot for something to ruin my day/vacation and it has happened. But, if you go into a situation and want to have fun you will.

  2. Oh man, there was a rat! That is bad.

JK, sorry to hear about the lousy service. The last time I went the worst service I got was at the bar, and mean all of them. I had the soda/bubbles package and once a bartender knew all I wanted was a pop and they were only getting 15% gratuity on a 1.50 instead 15% on a 9.00 alcohol beverage they would take any other person in front of me. I'm not even exaggerating

  3. This raises an interesting question.

Jeff doesn't say he only would provide cash tips, but for those people who disable the auto-pay in favor of cash, they are inadvertently stiffing many behind-the-scenes people who depend quite a bit on that income from the tip pool.

Thank you for pointing it out that I would like it to be less automatic so I could really take care of the people who make it a special trip, or who go above and beyond my expectations. At every meal whether it's a buffet or MDR I leave a cash tip, every meal. So i make it a point to have cash on me at all times. I will never leave a table without a tip on the table. So even though I know I am getting charged gratuities by the ship I still tip at all meals. And I tip our room steward at the beginning and the end. These are the automatic tips I leave.

I believe that if you are a behind the scene employee it is no longer my responsibility to provide your wage, they are employees who should be paid by their employer who has in turn charged me for a service. How many times have you tipped a dishwasher, or cook? Have you ever been to a show on Broadway or in Las Vegas and tipped the performers? You just don't tip those people, you just tip the persons who are in front of you.

So Instead of getting a invoice for all my charges that include gratuities on a ship I would prefer an option to write in an appropriate amount.

  4. As a person who is new to cruising I am not a fan of automatic gratuities. On our 2 cruises it's me my wife and 2 children. Gratuities are charged for all 4 of us but being charged for the children seems excessive. That's 48.00 a day. We also like to hand out cash to the people who make the cruise special for us.

  5. Can anyone give me an approximate distance from the port to the Southern most point monument bouy. I see this as a must do on our upcoming family cruise.

I would like to maybe rent bikes too. Anyone have a favorite place or price I should expect to pay?

  6.

I will also add that I personally don't see very many of the book last minute type fare deals very often anymore. As an example, our January 2016 cruise is nearly sold out. There are a few remaining interior cabins and they are selling for what we paid for a balcony cabin on Lido deck just 5-6 months ago. And our cruise has over 3 months before it sails.

Have you read this thread ? http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2260128

    Good luck.

Did you book through the Cruise Ships website or travel agent or other?

  7. How do you get plane tickets so cheap? We are flying from New Orleans to Miami next June and we got round trip for 168.... Thought that was good deal but I must say yours in way better!!!

We fly Spirit, Frontier and South West.

Spirit is a budget airline and there aren't many extras, but thats totally fine by me , I'm just interested in getting there. You usually have to pay 20.00 per checked bag and carryons are extra too. But it's better than flying and you are paying for baggage when you don't need it.

Right now there are 23.00 flights N.O. to Miami.

    http://marketing.spirit.com/traveldeals/air.php?s=2295

If that link does not work just go to spirits website, at the top is deals, then click on the deals they have going on.

  8. I would like to jump in on this thread too.

How does everyone get their best prices for cruises. Does everyone just go straight to the source like Carnival.com for example?

I am self employed and can go on a vacation just about anytime of the year and on very short notice. My vacations are almost always booked around the best possible deals I can get and not around the time.

Next week I'm taking my first cruise because we got flights for 23.00 each way ( 46.00 round trip) and the cruise for 4 of us was just over 1,000 for 4 people. I am a deal hunter, I go to 3 airlines websites almost every day looking for cheap flights and I want to know how to to it for cruises too

    Thanks, Jeff

  9. It's The Copper Grille.

We are American Cuisine Breakfast Lunch Dinner. We seat 240 people and our in out 8th year of business.

The restaurant is the reason I go to Vegas so much:) We can get away for 3-5 days at a time and not have to worry so much. Me and the wife are very hands on owners and we work 7 days a week. While we are in Vegas we always have our phones on us and handle business from there almost every day. The cruise will mean our phones will be off.

We are about to go on our very first cruise and I am super excited about it. I haven't grown tired of Vegas but I have been there over 40 the last 15 years. I posted in the roll call that I am excited and anxious at the same time. I don't know anything about cruises except what i have learned here on this message board.

The roll call has helped with some of the questions it just seems to be a small/slower not too involved thread.

  10. Wow! I wish I had found those flight deals. We are also flying from Detroit. We are cruising Oct 12-16.

Also, we were just near Paw Paw this weekend. Our good friends live in Mattawan.

We fly Spirit Air a lot because of some amazing deals. I went to Las Vegas from DET 3 times last year all flights were under 100.00 round trip.

Thats amazing you were just by here. Next time you visit your friends in Mattawan send me a message. Me and My wife own a restaurant here in Paw Paw.

  11. Do you need cash for slot machines and table games like Black Jack?

There have been essays written in this thread basically saying the same thing.

    Safe... blah blah blah...

    Small purse... blah blah blah...

Cruise card only in shorts....blah blah blah...

Let me try again. Do people carry wallets or purses with money in them for The casino?

  12. I think you can do it also, but will you be worrying the entire time while you are on your cruise be worth the extra cash on another flight? For me It would depend on how much I was saving then there's the extra hotel costs too.

When are you going? Me and the family are doing our first cruise on Carnival Ecstacy out of Miami on Sept 28th. We also chose this cruise because it was cheap and we got flights for 23.00 each (46.00 round trip)way Detroit to Miami.

  13. I am a fan of Paradise Beach myself and appreciate the beautiful pool they have added. It should be noted that since there is no cover charge it is expected that each person spend $10 on something. For me it is food/drink. There is no such thing as a free ride.

Can you or someone please explain more about what Paradise Beach is? Is it a Hotel/Resort that offers it's facilities to cruise passengers for a fee or is it a destination all by its self that caters to Cruise passengers.

This sounds exactly like what I am looking for as a event to do with my kids who are 10 and 12. While me and the wife can relax or partake in the fun(I do like snorkeling ).

This is going to be our families first cruise. We usually go all inclusive to Cancun, Rivera Maya..

First question, is this something I have to book from my Cruise Ship?

How do I get there from the port, taxi?

Do you have to pre-book your arrival?

More Important, Are taxis available for the ride back to port
