  1. We just booked the Seabourn Encore for the Aegean Gems and Ephesus cruise for this coming October 1st.  Do any veteran Seabourn cruisers have a referral code they would like to share.  We did receive an awesome fare on this cruise, so it's possible the referral program may not be rejected by Seabourn.  This will be our first on Seabourn and looking forward to it.  moe33908 at yahoo dot com.  Thanks!

  2. We just received a notice from Windstar that our embarkation pier has changed for our upcoming cruise on the Star Pride departing Reykjavik on August 28th.  We will now be embarking from the Miobakki Pier in the East Harbor.  Has anyone who has recently cruised from Reykjavik on Windstar used this pier?  Does it have a cruise terminal associated with it? What is the check-in procedure for Windstar?  We are staying at the Hotel Borg pre-cruise and it appears from a map that it is less than a 10-minute walk. Thanks!

Speaking of Internet Packages, it is actually quite easy to wait until you are aboard and simply purchase a package online by using your own device.  That gets you the current pricing and Captain's Club discount info.

    Hank

I just called to upgrade my simple surfing internet package from one device to two devices.  Two reps told me that I could not obtain the CC internet discount on two devices.  I received it when I booked for one device but it gets taken away when the package is changed to two devices.  It doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'll just update it when I get onboard.

  4. I called yesterday to book an internet package for an upcoming cruise.  Although, I booked through a travel agent, the X representative booked the package and gave me the CC discount.  He was very pleasant and helpful on the phone.  As for my travel agent, I called her 4 days ago with a question on my booking and I'm still waiting for a return call.  Think I may book directly with X in the future.

  5. Agreed! Enjoyed that jogging track on the Edge, even if it was only for brisk walks.  It was a little tough getting by the photographers at the horse sculpture but a little "excuse me" worked.  Funny story, I was tracking my distance on my Apple Watch and when I had gone a little more than a mile by counting my laps, I looked at my watch and discovered I had gone 7 miles!  The Apple Watch app was tracking the ship's movement as well as my own. 😆🚶‍♂️

  6. I've purchased the basic Internet Surf Package for my upcoming sail on the Infinity on April 22nd.  I went with the one device option.  Do I have to commit to a specific device when I first sign in or will I be able to switch devices?  For example, if I pick my iPhone when I first sign in, will I later be able to access the internet with my iPad?  I know that I can't use two devices at the same time with the single device package.  Thanks!

So as I gather from many replies to my item "loyalty to the company or loyalty by the company" no longer matter. Perhaps that explains the deterioration in consideration and service by the people of this modern generation.  I rest my case.

Please "unrest" that case.  The level of service and abundance of consideration by very young crew member on the Azamara Quest recently were above and beyond the norm.  The same qualities and concerns exhibited by Captain Kate and her crew were on display on the Equinox as well.  It's a matter of leadership as the Senior Officers set the tone.  Treat people properly and they will be loyal. Expect consideration because of your "loyalty" and that plus $6 will get you a coffee from the Cafe Al Bacio.

  9. Okay, I will address the elephant in the room...  Methinks there is a fair amount of misogyny in this thread.

It's the 21st century folks and women deserve their right to a place at the table.  They've had to work twice as hard as any man to get that place and they are just as competent (and deserving).  The role of captain requires competence, leadership, and customer service, and Captain Kate has those qualifications.

I"m an old white guy who believes that women have more than earned their place in the former "good old boy" networks.  The role of captain is earned and Captain Kate has earned her stripes!

Not ever sailed with a lady Captain but are interested as she sounds fun. Looks like we will be ok on the 19th August then ..... hubby happy .. haha

She is amazing.  We sailed with her on Equinox last year.  She is very accessible, visible and will do any job which needs doing regardless of the task at hand.  We witnessed her mopping a floor in the buffet and bussing a table.  The crew loves her as do the passengers.  Many fellow passengers were sailing Equinox solely because of her.  She's great!

@TeeRick are you thinking that the higher prices of Edge could be deterring long time X cruisers from sailing again after they do try it?

Definitely, and new to Celebrity as well.  The Edge was my second X cruise and while the ship was pleasant and enjoyable, it is not worth the premium price.  If prices came down to be more in line with other X ships, then I would definitely sail her again.  BTW, did anyone else notice the foul odor at various time in various parts of the ship?  It was most prominent in the atrium and Eden but was also noticed in the Rooftop Garden and the theater.  I can't imagine eating in Raw on 5 with sewer odors wafting through.

  12. We are back home after our first Azamara cruise on the Quest, from Venice to Barcelona and everyone on CC was correct! The cruise was wonderful! I was apprehensive at first because the lack of information from AZ was disconcerting (as I posted in another thread), but any apprehension disappeared after we boarded.

So many things were positive about the Quest, I'd like to share some with you:

SIZE - The size of the Quest, and number of passengers, was perfect. We never felt crowded, there were always empty chairs available in the cabaret, and we never had to wait for meals or dinner even when we wanted to dine in our favorite waiter's section. We docked in Monaco, where we had the White Party, and our size enabled us to secure convenient berths in various ports.

VIBE - This was the best mix of passengers of any cruise so far. We loved the casual, laid back vibe of the ship. Other passengers were from a large number of countries. We never sensed any pretense from anyone. They were all friendly, engaging, and appreciative of the smart casual dress code.

SERVICE - Here is where Azamara excels! Outstanding service from everyone! Even the maintenance workers smile and say hello. Staff knew our names on day 2. Our favorite bartender knew our favorite drinks after one visit. The performers would come over and chat after the performance. My favorite story is about our assistant steward... On day 3, I developed a toothache and my cheek swelled to the size of an orange. He noticed and asked if I was okay. When I told him, he offered to bring ice to help the swelling. He brought ice every day and when I returned to the room in the evenings, he would leave bagged ice for me to use as an ice pack.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE - The variety and quality of the food and meal presentation was great. At dinner, nothing repeated on our 10 night cruise. Plenty of choices (sometimes hard to pick one), and everything tasted fresh. Oftentimes on other cruises, I ordered prime rib cooked medium and it came well done from being held too long. On the Quest, a prime rib ordered medium came out pink just as our waiter described. Oh, our waiter and assistant waiter were delights. They smiled, were engaging, helpful, and went back to find a bottle of a previous night's favorite wine. The menu choices on the Patio were plentiful. Room service was also excellent with lots of choices for breakfast (steak and eggs for breakfast? no problem). Just in case anyone still has questions about the complimentary, premium and ultimate packages, one can request a mixed cocktail to be made with the spirit included in your package. We had the premium package and requested cocktails made with Ketel One vodka with no problems.

ENTERTAINMENT - Above par and accessible. We could always find a seat for the entertainment. We had great singers on our cruise and the tenor and soprano were excellent. One of the tenor's selection was "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables and he gave goosebumps to everyone in the room. We also enjoyed the pianist in Spirits who had an excellent repertoire and interacted with her audience. We chatted with her and she told us that Azamara kept extending her contract (for good reasons, I'm sure).

SHIP - Although the Quest is a former Renaissance line ship, she was recently refurbished and looked sophisticated and modern. Decor is subtle with lots of grays and browns. There are plenty of seating areas and we could always find a seat at Mosaics for a coffee or even a lounge on the pool deck. Oftentimes, the Drawing Room was empty. We liked that the retail space is minimal, as is the Casino. The art gallery is not intimidating, as can be on other ships.

STATEROOM - We had an aft located verandah room on deck 6. The rooms are small but surprisingly useful. Plenty of storage with closets, shelves and drawers. Bed is comfortable but the duvet is far too heavy and gets too hot. Decor is a calming grayish tone. Bathroom was small and the shower...well all past Azamara cruisers are well aware of the minuscule shower and the dreaded "curtain". Our room was very quiet and we never heard any sounds from the dining room below or during any tender operations. I would love to try a suite and we will see if we can secure an upgrade on some future cruise. ;)

SHORE EXCURSIONS - The excursions offered by Azamara have the advantage of traveling in smaller groups. On most of the excursions, we were fewer than 25 on a coach which held 55 so it never felt crowded. We booked a last minute excursion for Monaco and while the excursion was sold out, another couple had requested a cancellation. The shore excursion desk made a substitution and ended up with four happy passengers. Again, this is reflective of the service levels and attitude throughout the ship.

OVERALL - Yes, we're sold... We will definitely book another Azamara cruise but maybe not exclusively in the future. We were spoiled by the service on this cruise. Visibility of officers was a big plus; they were everywhere and easily approachable. We met so many nice people on the Quest. There were a few young children but they were hardly seen. Our neighbors on deck six had a son who was a typical four year old but he was fun, engaging, and polite. The pre-cruise information and website leave something to be desired, but the onboard experience negates any shortcomings. It was a great experience and we are looking forward to another in the near future.

  13. We are sailing from Venice in September and have had our e-Doc’s available for a few weeks, these show all the details of the docking arrangement in Venice as well as details of ports.

Carol and John - thanks however my e-docs still only state "Venice" where if I took a taxi to Marittima I'd have difficulty getting to San Basilio. I find it amazing that European customers can receive e-docs giving a specific terminal while U.S. customers receive only the name of the port and not that of the terminal.

  14. We are sailing on the Azamara Quest from Venice this coming Sunday (August 26th) and are heading to the airport in less than 48 hours. I was bewildered by the sparse amount of information regarding my cruise, particularly which terminal we would use for embarkation. I actually booked a hotel near Piazzale Roma, thinking that we could use the People Mover and would be sailing from Marittima. All of my documents and emails from Azamara described the port as simply "Venice". I finally called Azamara today to confirm the terminal and was told San Basilio. When I asked the agent why the lack of information, she told me that a packet of information had been sent to my TA. So... I called the TA and shared my conversation. After a long period on hold, and a TA call to Azamara, they e-mailed the information to me. Imagine my surprise when it was simply the online booking information which I had already printed when I completed the online booking with AZ. Once again, the online booking information identified the departure terminal as "Venice".

What am I missing? Is this typical of a "luxury entry" cruise line service? Where am I supposed to obtain the information regarding the cruise? I'd love to know which ports are going to be tendered or even which terminal will be used when we dock. Have others received more detailed information about their AZ cruise or does "luxury" cruising mean its all a big surprise? Have others received information from their TA or directly from AZ?

I've received much more detailed information from Princess and Celebrity in the past, and I was at least expecting the same (or more) from Azamara. Very frustrating when I could have purchased 10 cruises on Princess for the price of this single Azamara.

  15. Not wanting to sit next to someone because they may have different taste in clothes seems a tad superficial to me. I would prefer to sit next to someone, interesting, funny and kind hearted however they dress, remember “clothes do not make the man (or women)”

I hope I'm seated next to you on my next cruise! :D

  16. I choose to dress to be comfortable, not to impress or satisfy fellow cruisers. We've gone with Azamara and not Cunard because of the relaxed dress codes. If fellow passengers don't like my jeans or khakis at dinner, feel free to move to another table.

  17. Alsun, thanks so much for your detailed reports. We are taking our first Azamara cruise on the Quest in two weeks and didn't know exactly what to expect. You've just added to our anticipation and optimism about Azamara considerably. I was especially impressed with the special delivery of the Earl Gray tea; I have a feeling that this upcoming cruise will set a new standard. Enjoyed every shared moment of your holiday! Excellent report!

  18. Bill-n-Bob,

Yes, we too are intrigued by the new design of the Edge and were fortunate to snag a cabin which our friends had reserved but they then had to cancel. The TA who serves a primarily LGBT clientele, had reserved 40 cabins and is now supporting a wait list. There will certainly be great "family" representation on this trip.

We would love to hear your comments/suggestions about our upcoming Azamara Med cruise! We are just starting to zero in on the port excursions now. I am a little concerned about embarkation in Venice since I had assumed that we would depart from Marittima but just discovered that we will depart from San Basilio. I booked a hotel just off Piazzale Roma thinking we could take the people mover but will now have to re-think that. We would also like to skip Rome and get to Ostia Antica instead. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Looking forward to meeting you on board the Edge.

    Moe & Kevin
