  1. When driving on Klondike Highway, I know there is customs when crossing from Alaska to British Columbia, but do you also have to go through a checkpoint when crossing between British Columbia and Yukon territory?
  2. My family is sailing on Encore this Sunday and will be doing a PCR test on Friday morning before we fly to Seattle Friday evening. We already did a "practice run" of PCR tests yesterday and confirmed that we were all negative just so there should be no surprises if we hunker down at home this week. When we arrive at the pier, what exactly do they require that we show as proof of negative test? Can we simply just show them the confirmation of negative test result from our health provider's mobile app or there is a specific certificate that we need to provide?
  3. Can anyone confirm whether Splash Academy is operating as normal on Encore? I am sailing next week and my 10 and 7-year olds do like going there sometimes when they don't want to sit through trivia, art lectures, or more adult-oriented evening shows.
  4. 3600! That's about 90% capacity. We are on next week's sailing and I was hoping that it would only be in the 60-80% range. Bummer.
  5. From what I have read, DIY Jeep Tours in Skagway was acquired by Avis. They no longer rent out the Jeep Wranglers and instead just give a Jeep Cherokee/SUV.
  6. As I thought, that site mentions that the flat rate is only for trips going FROM downtown to SeaTac and not from the airport to downtown. "There is a $40.00 Flat Rate in effect for trips from the Downtown Seattle Hotel District to SeaTac Airport. Please refer to the map above for the boundaries pertaining to this rate. Flat rates are in effect for direct trips only, and trips with any stops involved will be charged the meter rate. Also note that there is no flat rate in effect for trips from SeaTac Airport to the Downtown Hotel District."
  7. Sailing on Encore in 2 weeks. Anybody know whether Kinky Boots will be showing? I'm seeing conflicting information.
  8. If you are booking through NCL Air, even if it is to fly in on embarkation day, I don't see how they would possibly book you on a flight that would not "guarantee" (assuming that there are no flight delays/issues) that you would make the departure time. I can't see why they would put you on a flight in which you would arrive too late to make the ship just because it was cheaper. Once NCL books your flight though, I don't think there is any option to back out of it and book on your own.
  9. I thought that the $40 flat rate only applied for taxis going FROM downtown TO SeaTac, but not from airport to downtown. Am I mistaken? Based on some preliminary searching, it seems that an Uber would be around $60-$70.
  10. I'm in the exact same situation as you. We fly into Seattle late Friday night (11:50pm arrival) for a Sunday cruise. We will also have our 10 yo and 7yo. We are staying at Motif Hotel downtown rather than at SeaTac, that way we don't have to worry about taking the train up to downtown on Saturday morning and then having to store our bags until we can check into our room on Saturday. One thing that I noticed though is that the last train from SeaTac direct to Westlake Station/Downtown leaves at 11:44pm. I'm not comfortable with taking a train and then transferring to a bus and walking through downtown with luggage and 2 young children at ~12:30-1:00am so we will most likely need to take a taxi/Uber at that hour.
  11. I was also looking at using them. What kind of car did you get and how was the condition of the car? For now, I have a reservation through Turo.
  12. I am also on the 7/31 Encore sailing and have some confusion regarding ArriveCAN. When we are docked in Skagway, we are going to rent a car and drive up into Canada. Thus, I will be arriving in Canada 3 days prior to our scheduled stop in Victoria. Do I need to have separate ArriveCAN submissions to account for this? I'm not sure if doing it within 3 days of our cruise embarkation on 7/31 will suffice for us to arrive in Canada on 8/3.
  13. Thanks so much for these. I'll be on the 7/31 Encore sailing and will definitely help with trying to planning out our days and evenings.
  14. We've decided to rent a car and drive the route on our own and will add on a stop to see the sled dogs with the money we saved from not riding the train. Thanks everyone four your input.
  15. Burbank is not convenient for going to Long Beach. LGB would be great but it is highly unlikely that you will find a direct flight from ATL to LGB. SNA is another option but usually more expensive than LAX.
  16. My family (me, wife, 2 kids - 10 and 7) were planning to do White Pass Railway when we stop in Skagway in August. However, I am also considering renting a car and trying to drive the Klondike Highway up into Yukon. My wife thinks the kids will enjoy the train experience but I'm wondering if they will quickly get bored, especially since you don't stop anywhere. It seems like we could see much more at about half of the price of the train tickets by renting a car and driving ourselves. Curious to hear people's opinions on these two options. Also, does anyone have experience with using Affordable Car Rental in Skagway?
  17. I believe that 11:00 am is the cutoff for using Port Valet so you should be ok.
  18. My family is staying at Motif by Hyatt for 2 nights before our cruise next month. It looks to be very conveniently located in the middle of downtown only a block or two from Westlake station.
  19. I would not worry too much about safety concerns. Take proper precautions that you would take in any busy, touristy area and you should be fine.
  20. Our flight was booked 56 days out and at a much cheaper rate than what I would have paid if I booked directly with Alaska Airlines. As soon as I received my flight email from NCL, I logged into Alaska site and changed our seat assignments. So far no complaints.
  21. Really enjoyed our time on Escape - especially liked the ropes course
  22. Can now confirm that I was able to get the 2nd person free promo on a one way ticket at 50% of the round trip rate. $358 * 50% = $179 pp for one way Seattle to Orange County. 2nd person free makes it $134 pp for our family of 4 Now just need to find a good deal for the one way flight to Seattle
  23. I am booked on NCL Encore for 7/31/22 with final payment already made. Can I still add on the Cruise Air promo at this point? It says that for Encore sailings you must notify of date deviation by 60 days out (currently at 74). Flights from Orange County/Ontario/LAX to Seattle are currently around $480 at the lowest. NCL's rate is $358 which translates to $268pp for my party of 4 after you take out the free 2nd person. Also, I am considering only adding the airfare for the one way return trip so that I can have more control over my flight up to Seattle. It looks like the T&C say that it will just be 50% of the roundtrip rate. Can anyone confirm this?
