1. Well, they actually do have holding tanks, the Star would have about 3000-4000 metric tons worth of potable water capacity, while using 800-1000 metric tons of water per day. While the ship does make water while underway, depending on the itinerary, the ship's watermakers may not be able to keep up with demand (not enough hours at sea), so some water is loaded in ports. This water must be from a known source, and the particular hydrant that it comes from must have been tested and met the USPH standards for drinking water, within the last month. Further, the water is chlorinated as it is piped to the storage tanks, and any water taken in port must be kept segregated and not used until a coliform bacteria test is done, which takes 18-24 hours.

no worry here fill our glass,

thanks for the info, just doesn't worry me, now if I was in Flint maybe

  2. You mean the 1 from earlier this year on the Gem and 2 separate drownings on the Breakaway from 2014? All made the national and international news because 3 out the 4 kids died in either the adult swimming pool or the hot tub with supposedly the child(ren) parent(s)/legal guardian(s) there.

There's a reason why they have "Swim at your risk" posted all over pools area - They 're not ones that's going to be burying the kid(s) if they drown in a adult pool on their ships, the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) are. So, if parent(s)/legal guardian(s) want to play Russian Roulette with the child(ren) lives in 4-7 feet of water - that's on them, not NCL or the other passengers that's following the rules.

I think that the law should be that NO ONE can install a pool or hottub at your own home if a child under 16 lives.

How many children do we have to lose do to un safe water levels, and those cruise ships should have a fence along pool with a key card reader that only opens for adult age cruises.

  3. Here I am to save the day! :D

The main pools are sea water. Sea water pools are operated in two different modes. When the ship is more than 12 miles from shore, they may operate in "flow through" mode. Here sea water is continually pumped to the pool, and the overflow goes right back to the ocean. Since the water is continually changing, there is no need for chlorination.

When within 12 miles of shore, sea water pools (and fresh water pools at all times) are in "recirculation" mode, where the sea water is pumped in to fill the pool, and then is recirculated through filters, and continuously monitored and chlorine dosed. And I mean continuously. Unlike pools on shore, as the water recirculates to the filters, sensors check the chlorine level, and then adjust continuously running dosing pumps to add chlorine as needed. Chlorine levels are maintained at 2-4ppm, which is generally higher than shoreside pools.

Pools are required to be drained once a week.

Hot tubs are always fresh water, and are to be drained daily and also super-chlorinated to 100ppm while closed. Hot tubs are generally chlorinated to 8-10ppm, which is much higher than most private hot tubs.

These are all the requirements of the USPH Vessel Sanitation Program, which controls all aspects of foreign flag cruise ship operations when calling at US ports.

Funny, we have a pool and hot at home, and live very close to our own beach (Virginia Beach, Va)

So spending time in the pool while on a cruise is not a bid draw. Now if we are into a hot tub dip later after dinner sure.

I make my living selling many different bottled waters, and Im a VOSS water lover. But I drink tap water from home, work, most places for dinner that bring water.

We only drink water (2 glasses) with our meals while we cruise, and some people seem to thank water on ships are not clean. Its not like they have holding tanks that they fill up while in port.

traveling soon for 2 week cruise, and just to be fair we will be spending time in pool and hot tubs and on our return I will let you know if we got sick from drinking it, or swimming in it, or soaking in it. I mean unless I was all wrong and our skin falls off.

next stop NCL STAR April 17 TA

  4.
There's something so special about sitting in your jammies eating escargots, filet, caesar salad and mushroom soup while enjoying the view from our AFT suite.

We eat most breakfast and lunch meals in our suite out on the balcony - we aren't much for sitting at the pool, don't enjoy buffets and just enjoy spending time together relaxing.

That's what's great about cruising - there's something for everyone!

We are celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary during our Alaska cruise and we plan on dining in our suite enjoying the majesty of Glacier Bay!
"jammies" don't let my wife see this, she isn't aloud to pack 'jammies".. tried years ago and I left that bag at home... :D
  5. VOILA!

    Thanks for the added drinks.

I have added the new ones and now sorted each individual drink group alphabetically so you can find the drinks more easily: no more searching up and down within group for drink.

    New and improved list attached

i can't get list ...... to download right

    Donna

    maybe someone can post it...please

  6. As part of a spa, this makes sense because snow rooms have been a big trend in high end spas all over the world since 2008. There's already a snow room at Caesar's Palace QUA Spa in Las Vegas for instance and QUA Spa is considered the best Spa in Las Vegas, one of the top 100 best spas in the USA and also one of the top 100 best spas worldwide. The snow room at QUA Spa has been very popular with spa guests. It's a proven concept. So, I can see why, when NCL is trying to build a world class spa experience on their ships, they would choose to include the snow room. For those who don't want to go to the spa or use the snow room, please feel free to avoid it. That just leaves extra room for those of us who do enjoy spas and feel that a great spa is an important part of a relaxing vacation experience.

This snow room as you call it is a great idea, and after reading all the bad reasons not to partake in something that will be in the spa area. 95% of the cruise attendance don't go to the spa, its like the rock climbing wall...what is that for and do you tell them to take it down.

As the above poster says, its a great idea and those of us who have felt the relief of the hot tub cold water plunge

Im sorry, we lived in Alaska for 9 years, -40 is not a joke to "live in" thru winter but -40 be it a drink bar or spa room is another issue.

I have pictures of our son who was born in April and by 8 months old he was hot tubbing and playing with snow with the rest of family... OK truth be told he is 25 years old now and sounds like most of you when its cold here in Va.

another reason the spa area relaxing less people,

  7. We will be in a Haven aft penthouse on the Breakaway. Are the bridge tours complimentary, or is there a charge? Just wondering. Thank you.

(is there a charge),..... ya and we all pre paid for tour offer, every suite we have we have been asked to join bridge tour

  8. On the Jewel last week, we enjoyed one of our Platinum dinners at Le Bistro for the first time since the a al carte menu came into effect. My husband, unknowingly, tried to order the escargot, a salad and an entree. He was advised he had to choose between the escargot and the salad....he could not have both. At this point, he had not ordered dessert. This was no big deal for us. He went with the escargot (of course ) and moved on to his entree. It was all delicious!

    escargot (of course ) :D

  9. I've stayed on deck 10 aft penthouse, larger balcony and you don't hear any noise from the spa above you......

I was reading some other posts and why would people thank the NOISE for the spa would be a issue.

I just booked 10728 and will have a spa package and if the noise is a issue I will not got to spa at all

    always learn from others,

I love to read ideas from CC people

  10. ok I just booked cabin 10728 on the STAR and looking as good as one can I see pictures posted as far back as 2009 and 2010.

I was wondering if during the update in port last year did they do anything different to this room

thanks for any pictures, I just want to know the colors I will have to bare for our 2 week trip.

  11. While I appreciate your outrage at the new A La Carte specialty restaurant policy, I am puzzled that you didn't know about it ahead of time. It was first announced on the Norwegian Website on July 14th and the announcement was also carried on Cruise critic the same day. It was "reaffirmed on July 30th. Both announcements have been widely discussed on the Cruise Critic boards as well. In December it was one of the hotest topics on the NCL boards. I also don't understand why you didn't just buy a 2 meal specialty package for $58 when you boarded instead of paying the A La Carte pricing at the restaurant. With the dining packages the A La Carte rate is waived and you pay a flat rate...just like the old days.

its food people, one of the last items I thank about when my DH says , "I booked another cruise for next month"

I like specialty restaurants during the trip but its not end all if we don't.

DH says as long as he can get ice cream after any dinner he is one happy man!!

  12. no one said anything about the SUN... the real sun. you have to get sun light on your balcony 1st.

And if you do its low in the sky, we have had large enough balcony to have two lounge chairs and yes taken naps out during sea days, but unless we are booking the garden villa on the STAR again and its a TA cruise I don't see it giving me a TAN in 7 days,

I love my all over tan but I have to work it all summer.... and yes!!!

  13. And they had to CLOSE it that same day due to the Closed Minded IDIOTS that think we are any different from them, other than we CHOOSE to be open and may or may NOT Choose to have sex with others, or watch, or just enjoy the Awesome Open minded People socializing!!!!
