  1. Yes, Chateau Ste Michelle wine blending space is the $79 single, $99 couple space. The Culinary Arts Center is now ATK serving a la carte in the p.m. But it didn’t attract a lot of people. We felt it lacked an identity. It was a cement and steel sort of decor, small plates and large, started at Happy Hour and guaranteed sports games televised every night. The menu was on the Navigator but should have been at the door, too.

  2. I was brought up not to ask what someone does for a living, it would be similar to asking how much money they earn. I heard that Brits are particularly offended by the question.

Indeed, it's considered impolite in much of Europe. So if you need an ice breaker with a European, better stick to the weather.

  3. Suppose I brought my own bottles and paid the $18 corkage fee. Could I take my own wine back and forth to the dining room they way I could with a wine package wine? Are my personal bottles treated the same as the wine package bottles once I pay the fee?

  4. Very complete report. We loved the Jade and had just debarked from the trans-Atlantic the day you embarked. Our CC group was so big that the meet and greet was in the Spinnaker. The afternoon movies in the theater were special, as was the officers meeting with the public after Bermuda was canceled due to a storm. We did have an emergency one-hour stop for a medical evacuation in the Bahamas, however. Strong memories and new friendships! Bon voyage to everyone.

  5. Probably the guy that would pee off of his balcony, every morning when we would be drinking our coffee. We would call security, they would come up and talk to him, he would apologize and then it would happen the next day.

One of the kids thought I should video it and show it to security and I said no thank you.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Your kid was right about the video, but you should have shown the guy that you had posted it to the ship's FaceBook.

  6. I'm 40 years old and have 11 classes to finish my Bachelor of Accounting. If I leave my books at home I won't finish my degree.

Bravo! My husband got his PhD in his forties and had a wonderful career as a professor at a major university. Now he's retired but guess what he'll be doing on sea days on our trans-Atlantic--continuing work on one of his books. I heard from a friend about a woman doing a back2back in order to have four weeks to finish her book. You are doing great and keep up the good work.

  7. I was losing it I double checked and we are most certainly booked coming FROM Barcelona. All is good

Just remember it's from Barcelona--so the Jade can float around the Caribbean in the winter.

I'll have my Kindle filled too. Have you read "Atlantic" by Simon Winchester? A pretty big book but appropriate for the trip.

  8. Well I'm currently on the Jade Transatlantic. I started in Houston and we stopped first in Miami and then St. Thomas. Departed St. Thomas yesterday so we have about six days left till Funchal. I'm doing fine for now. I did purchase the unlimited internet package. It was quite expensive but I use it for several hours a day. Also, I brought various books, reading material. Also there are plenty of activities on board throughout the day.

For those of us crossing on the Jade in October, could you keep us updated MichiganBound, tell us a little about the temperatures you are experiencing. Give us an idea of a packing list. Fingers crossed for a smooth sailing for you. Thanks!

  9. I'll be on the Jade TA the same date and am using miles for the tickets over.

Others have looked at Icelandic Air, Norwegian Air, AerLingus, all of which are "low-cost" carriers that sell one-way tickets. You'll have to see just how low cost.

Barcelona Tourist Info office has a lot of information on line, as well as tours you can sign up for. If you are on Las Ramblas, stick your head into the Hotel Continental. A lot of us have booked there.

  10. Campolady,

Thank you and all the other posters so much. We'll be in Malaga at the end of October and are looking forward to touring. We spotted a flamenco museum among other unusual sights. However, my post has to do with getting some good quality olive oil to take back to the States. Anywhere to recommend and any particular brand?

Also, are there plenty of places scattered around to pick up a couple of six packs of water for the TA?

    Once again thank you.

  11. Question please: There will be a group of 4 senior ladies (65-74) taking the train from Paris to Barcelona for a cruise in October. I think we definitely need to stay downstairs but is there a big difference for us between 1st and 2nd class? We are not tall. Is it worth an addition 30-40 euros each? Thanks for any info.

No, not such a big difference. We usually travel second unless we get the tickets the day they're available, in which case we get first. But it's not a deal breaker. Since there are four of you, you may want to reserve the four seats facing each other with a table in the middle.
