  1. Is the NCL ferry that runs from the Dockyard to St. George's the same ferry that is labeled as "The Orange Route" in the Summer Ferry Schedule? I have read previous posts that state the NCL ferry leaves the Dockyard at 9 am but the the Orange Route shows it leaving at 9:30.

  2. We found a tour from the ship that does the caves, Tom Moore’s Jungle, ice cream, and I forgot what else.

It was over $200/person. We’ve reserved a Twizy, and are basically doing our own version of the tour at our own pace, and for much cheaper.

Here’s to us both finding luck!

Following up.........what was your experience like with the Twizy? Were you able to see everything you wanted to? We have one booked for October but I am still undecided if it is better to go with a guide, or keep the Twizy and discover the island on our own. My main concern is trying to figure out the best route so that we are not backtracking and wasting time trying to cram everything into one day.

  3. I am wondering if anyone has had luck finding insurance coverage for the twizy. We are also from Canada and I was told that because the vehicle is a quadricycle it is not covered. Would like to book in a few weeks if I can find the insurance coverage. Thanks

Our insurance company confirmed that they would cover a Twizy in the event of an accident. We would be responsible for our deductible.

  4. We have a Twizy reserved for October. I was informed by the company that the mandatory insurance only covers the other vehicle in the event of an accident. The renter is responsible for any damage to the Twizy. Has anyone contacted their own personal insurance company to see if a Twizy would fall under their policy?

  5. What did you do about car insurance? We have a Twizy rented for October and I know about the mandatory insurance. However, I found out today that the mandatory insurance does not cover damage to the Twizy. If you scrape the car, or you have an accident, you are responsible for the repairs. The insurance purchased with the car is a Third Party Insurance and only covers damage to other vehicles. I received confirmation of that information today directly from the company. Did they offer you additional options or did you purchase something through your personal car insurance?

  6. If we bid for an opportunity to upgrade from an inside room to a balcony on the Escape, what additional fees should I consider? Will our daily service fees go up even though they have been prepaid? Does a balcony room have additional staff looking after us that we have to tip, and if so, how much? Or does that only apply to Haven guests?

  7. NCL has switched our cruise from Bahamas to Bermuda. We are travelling October 14 out of New York. We are pleased with the change, however, we do not arrive in Bermuda until 5:00 pm. Normally this itinerary has you arriving in the morning on the first day. So we really only have a day and a half to explore. There are so many things I'd love to see and do and I was hoping people who have travelled to Bermuda before can give some insight as to what is possible and what should be eliminated due to time constraints. The things that interest us is the beach with the pink sand, Tom Moore's Jungle, the caves, Swizzle Inn, the unfinished church and a little window shopping. We would welcome any new suggestions as well.

  8. hi! just wanna add my 2 cents, as I have an inside cabin booked, 9435 (forward), on the Escape and I purposely didn't take the area on 9 where you are staying. I had wanted to, so I put the word out on CC and someone on an earlier thread, stayed in 9441/9445 on the Breakaway and with a similar deck setup.......complained that somehow all of the music, day/nite coming from the theater was driving them crazy!! When I asked, I really didn't get any responses. Hopefully someone whos stayed in this area can help!!!

Thank you. I hadn't thought about the noise from the theatre. The theatre is two levels below us so hopefully we won't hear anything. Maybe we will just have to stay up late every night in the District!!

  9. Booked an inside room on the Escape for October 2018. I explained to the NCL rep that we would prefer something as close to mid-ship as possible in the hopes of alleviating motion sickness and that we wanted to be close to stairs for convenience. She suggested a family room, 9439. My question is.........does it matter that only two people will be in the room? Will the additional beds be a hindrance or do that tuck away nicely? Also, everyone mentions to stay away from "white areas" but I have no idea what that means? The NCL rep said that she thought this room would be convenient because we wouldn't have to go down multiply corridors to reach our room. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I know that the room is not used much, but with the date so far away, if there is something wrong I have time to change rooms. thank you in advance. We are avid CC readers and have already learned so much! I find the research almost as fun as the trip. Cheers!

  10. If we purchase trip insurance through NCL and one of us gets sick while on the ship, are we still responsible to pay out-of-pocket and submit forms for reimbursement? Also, we are Canadian, would Blue Cross be better than what NCL offers? We are trying to figure out if there is an insurance provider that pays on your behalf, or if all companies make you pay up front and then reimburse you afterwards. My apologies..........I have read so many threads but many are American so not sure if those websites are used by Canadians as well to purchase insurance. We do have coverage through work, but not sure if it is enough or what kind of hassles we will get if we have to put in a claim. Also, if we purchase through NCL, do we have to tell them the same time as when we book? We are planning to book a trip this Thursday on the Escape out of New York for October 2018.

  11. Does NCL always offer one promo for an inside room? We would be interested in the beverage plan. We are looking to book for 2018 but have not yet confirmed our plans but it's shows a countdown on the website? I don't want to rush and book a date today if the beverage plan is always an option. We understand we will have to pay the gratuities for this perk. Also, I have heard that sometimes they have one promo for an inside room and free paid gratuities. Is that correct?

  12. We received a "free" cruise from Harrah's but the dates are limited. We have decided on the Escape and are interested in either early April 2018 or late October 2018 out of New York and cruising to the Bahamas. Looking for past experiences as to which is better. Can anyone shed light as to which month might be more favorable regarding warm weather, and calm waters or is it entirely in Mother Nature's hands? I realize weather is unpredictable, but just thought I would ask the experts on which months they prefer and why. Cruise critic was extremely helpful two years ago when we took our first cruise and we are looking forward to our second one. Thank you.

  13. We watched the entire event. The ship was due to leave at 5:30 but waited until 6:20. The husband dropped the children off and went back outside to wait for his wife. He was in discussion with the deck guy in the golf caddy. You could see he was trying to call her on a cell phone.

Finally the ship had to leave and started to back up. That was when the wife showed up but it was too late.

Yes, it was tragic. Everyone felt terrible for them and concerned for the kids who were left behind. One gentleman ran in and used an emergency phone to call 911 but it was too late. The ship waited an additional 50 minutes. I don't fault the captain....of course I feel sick for the family....but for whatever reason, she was late. It was her fault.

The captain had to make the call. I don't know how the ships work; perhaps it is not possible to pull back in once he had started moving. And there may be fees associated when they remain at the pier longer than their arranged time.

I hope we eventually find out what the outcome was and if there was family on the ship to take care of the children.

I'm guessing the couple would have to fly from Nassau to New York and wait for the Breakaway's return. When we went to Nassau, all we had was our picture ID and a small amount a cash. It would be difficult to purchase food, flights, hotels etc.

I agree with all the previous posts. Pay attention to what time you must be back on the ship.

  14. I have been reading many negative threads regarding NCL and all the extra fees. I have already paid for everything upfront.....including gratuities, UBP, SDP, gratuities, excursions etc.

Unless I were to use the spa facilities, go into the casino or purchase something in the gift shop, is it not possible to incur zero additional charges?

After prepaying everything, I am assuming that we will have a very minimal bill at the end of our cruise. I guess I just don't understand why other people complain so much when everything is explained at the time of booking, and most things can be purchased ahead of time. Am I missing something?

This will be our first ever cruise and we plan on having a great time, meeting new friends, and at the end of it all, we will have many memories with little or no additional fees incurred.

  15. We booked our cruise through a Total Rewards promo in early January. I see now that the NCL promos are better than what we received. I contacted my casino host and she said that we were unable to receive the current promos because we had already booked. We are travelling April 17, 2016. I have read on other threads that people who booked directly through NCL were able to cancel their current booking and then rebook to get all the new offers. Are the rules different for casino guests or is my host just not willing to change our reservation? Has anyone else tried to make changes with a casino host?

  16. Our first cruise ever will be April 17. Celebrating 25 years while on the ship! So exciting! My question is if it is worth it to purchase Vibe passes or will it still be too cold as we will be leaving from New York. Is H2O just as nice? Where would I purchase them? Is there a special line to get into? How early should I get to the Port if I have any chance of getting a couple? We haven't chosen our time yet. Ugh so much research! I'm still trying to figure out dinner times so we don't miss out on the evening shows, parties, comedy shows etc...

  17. Is the Internet Cafe free on the NCL Breakaway? I am nervous about not being in contact with family and hubby likes Internet access. However the daily rate is so expensive! Do I have other options or do I have to pay the $24.95 daily cost?
