  1. Just 6,000 Marriott points or 2,000 Starpoints will get you a night at the brand new (opening in July) Four Points By Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port. It includes a free airport shuttle and a cruise port shuttle for a small fee.

This deal was so good that we booked two rooms for two nights in November without going over 20,000 Marriott points. If you are not a member of either program (or want to pay cash), though, the prices are comparable to other local hotels.

I loved being able to buy the Social Wi-Fi plan when I sailed Carnival last year... totally worth the $35 total for having communication the entire week. I see Norwegian is following in their footsteps with the same thing and that it will be rolling out to the entire fleet this Summer (it is already on the Getaway and Escape). But, there is absolutely no information on their website about this! Does anyone know the roll-out date for this new pricing model, specifically for the Breakaway (I am travelling on July 30). I really do not want to pay more money just to be limited by the megabyte for services that I won't use.

    Thanks.

  3. I know that you cannot pre-book Crab Shack reservations online, but we are trying to make reservations for other specialty restaurants and do not want to book them on Crab Shack night. We are sailing this fall on the seven night Western Caribbean itinerary (more information can be found in my signature). Does anyone who sailed on this itinerary know which night(s) the Crab Shack is open?

On a side note- a member of our party has no interest in seafood. Would they charge her the $29 just to sit with us at the table even if she brings her own food in from the buffet?

    Thanks

  4. No need to even go to a bar-- bring a reusable water bottle and you are good to go. The water is exactly the same throughout the ship, including the water used in your bathroom.

"The tap water on cruise ships is completely safe and drinkable, having been through rigorous filtration and testing, all of which are overseen by U.S. and European heath agencies. While some cruisers claim that the tap water in restaurants and bars tastes different from what comes out of the cabin bathroom, it is all, in fact, the same water."

  5. We are planning a cruise with my parents, who are 92, on the Royal Princess in November. My father uses a walker. I am trying to decide if the regular balconies near the elevators (mid-ship) allow enough room for him to get his walker around the bed and out to the balcony. Several cabins down, there are deluxe balconies for just a few hundred dollars more. Even though they have more square footage, I don't know if they allow more clearance for the walker at the bottom of the bed. It would be ashame to pay the extra money and be further from the elevators if getting around the cabin were still a problem. If you have stayed in these cabins, your input would be very helpful.

As an aside, we stayed in a Royal Family Suite on Rhapsody of the Seas, and he could not get his walker around the bottom of the bed. I know it's another cruise line, but we don't want to repeat that experience.

The only difference between a balcony and a deluxe balcony is (drumroll please)...

a couch instead of a chair.

  6. You will definitely pay a premium price for the medallion equipped cruises when they start. Going to really appeal to the millennials who thrive on tech. Imo not worth the extra $$.

The medallion cruises are actually on a mega-sale right now. We are booked on the Regal in November with two balcony cabins, and with this sale, we were able to upgrade to two mini-suites while saving over $500.

  7. I would say to go on the Jewel. IMO, the Jewel's class is the one that is the most similar to Celebrity. It was built with a ton of glass and is not even close to their new ships in size (while still being modern inside). This ship is not particularly aimed at kids either (it doesn't have the bells and whistles), as the most attractive feature of that kind is the mini golf course. The dining is good too, from what I've heard. Go with the Jewel for sure if it can truly save you money.

  8. You should post this on the RCCL board too because people who check this board tend to be a bit more biased towards Carnival as it is the Carnival board.

I can sail anywhere and I have done research on both, but I honestly don't know which ship I would pick, either. Try to decide based on the itinerary.
