Hello. Nice to get the opinion of someone so familiar with Newport. Thanks! Yes, I saw on Google maps that it was a short walk and that's the only reason my husband will probably risk the sail. Hopefully, it will return to shore on time at 2:30 and he can make the quick walk to Perrotti Park for the last tender boat in time. On another note, as someone familiar with the city, while my husband is on the sail I thought I'd shop around so any good streets/areas you can recommend nearby for neat little shops would be appreciated. I love unique item/shops to the area vs. designer stores (Prada, etc.) Thanks again!

Bowen’s Wharf and Bannister’s Wharf, Brick Marketplace andThames Street are all in walking distance and have great shops.

Thanks so much for your quick responses! I did contact NCL (after a 45 minute hold!) and they mostly say to just check once we're onboard, which will be too late. The tour is a sail in the harbor and I've contacted them. They say we should be on dry land by 2:40 or earlier so guess we'll hoof it the .4 mile to Perrotti Park for the 3:00 tender boat. Risky I know but I think high chance it's doable, although just barely. I'm sure there are huge lines of passengers waiting to get on the last tender and am guessing as long as you're in line on time, they can't leave you behind. Thanks again so much for your help!!

I live in RI and know Newport well. Most of the companies who offer a harbor sail are located very close to Perotti Park where you’ll tender.  It’s a straight and easy walk.

  3. The Masters is the only sports program that I watch all year, so it's something that I really look forward to. When it's over, I start counting down the days until the next one.

My husband always knows the countdown to the Masters too. After today we do have another one - 14 days until the Breakaway!

  4. Just make sure your have your car reservation handy, the bus driver will want to check.  It does not matter how many people are in your group.

Also we sometimes rent a car in Orlando or FLL and drive down and return to MIA, if you choose to do that make sure to save your receipt as the bus driver will check that if you use the shuttle to go to the ship.

Thanks for the info. Can you please tell me where to find the shuttle and also if you know if National participates.

Someone inquired earlier as to whether the Vibe public bar is opened for sail away. They said that it is...

Thanks for a great review, can’t wait to read more.  DH and I are on the Breakaway at the end of April out of Miami. Our only other cruise has been on the Sky which we loved but we’re looking forward to a bigger ship.

We’re not planning on trying for Vibe passes but I’m curious, what’s the Vibe public bar?

  6. We are in port from 11am to 6pm on a Friday.

At 415 days till sailing, we are currently leaning towards doing a schooner sailing on the Adirondack II. It seems like an enjoyable time. I am not opposed to doing something else.

As I mentioned before, I am not interested in doing a mansions tour. It’s our final port stop, so I want a relaxing excursion.

We just took a harbor cruise on the Aquidneck with Sightsailing of Newport and we loved it. We have also been on both the Madeleine and the Rum Runner with Classic Cruises of Newport. They all depart from Bowen’s Wharf which is a short walk from Perotti Park

  7. Will be arriving by tender in October and would love to receive advice on how to use public transportation from the port to do the Cliff Walk and see 1 or 2 mansions - (Marble House and Breakers).

What order of operation would you do the cliff walk and mansion tours in ? and what stops would you get off at to do the above ?

How often do the buses run ?

    Thanks in advance... Dave

The Newport Visitor Information and Transportation Center is just a few blocks north of Perotti Park, which is where I believe you will tender. Their website is https://www.discovernewport.org/ and should have info on public transportation.

Cliff Walk runs behind both of the mansions you mention and I'd suggest going to the mansions first.

Enjoy the City by the Sea!
