We too have 6152 booked for a 24 day TA. Would love to see photos and input
I looked on halfacts and googled, I wasn’t able to track down any details. [emoji24]

Finding that issue with them all...we want as much time in Cuba as possible and don't care about other ports. The itineraries that work for us are happening when we can't go...frustrating. We may end up on Oceania in 2020.
Yes. We really wanted at least 2 stops. Having an 8 hour stop out of 14 days, and calling it a Cuba tour seems to be a stretch! To qualify for the people to people requirement, you’d have to book a non-stop tour from 8-5. Boo on that.

I’d be curious about 6152.
I just booked 6152. Any thoughts? It looks like it has an extra triangle of a space in the room.

It looks like the old site created a cookie on some browsers. Once you selected the link you would automatically try to go to the old site. I ran into a similar situation and could get just the new site after clearing cookies.

Thank you. I’ll try that next time. It actually ended up working a few hours later. Strange

Yours is not going to Havana . It seems like you are only there till 5.00 we where in Havana till 2 am the next day . If you look most went to Havana, I guess Holland switched
It’s misleading that HAL calls the cruise, “Authentic Cuba” when there’s only one 8 hour stop in a 14 day cruise. Sheesh.

We are looking at the 14 Day Authentic Cuba and Eastern Caribbean tour. From the itinerary, it looks like only 1 day (8-5) in Cuba. But, it sounds like people are on cruises that have many more days/hours in Cuba. Am I missing something?
For those who have taken a cruise to Cuba and chose a private tour, were they all day?

I’m on my iPhone. It’s strange that both the new and old site won’t load in Safari. But, I can get to the new site on Chrome

We are booked on a Cuba cruise on Veendam in April 2018. Has anyone been on this cruise and if so do you have any advice on shore excursions in Havana, can you go on your own or do you have to book a tour ahead of time? Any other insights on this cruise would be appreciated. Thank You
What tour did you end up going on?

FYI - Ready, Set, Sail ends on June 14th. From what I can tell from the HAL blog, Explore 4 should be next (August to November) then View and Verandah.

Recommend you see this thread I posted: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2628612
Dave
Thanks for posting. It looks like I would be covered with my Grey Goose and hubby with Makers if we ever decided on the SBP. Hopefully the Explore 4 will be kind to us!

California has been offering Real ID compliant driver's licenses since Jan 22, '18.
Yes, but my CA drivers license doesn’t expire for several more years. I’m not about to waste my time in a CA DMV office to get a Real ID compliant license until I Absolutely have to. Since I have my Passport Card valid for awhile, why trek down to the DMV?

Can we assume that you simply forgot to include "don't" between "You" and "need"?
Yes. Lack of sleep and fast fingers!! Thank you for the correction. I couldn’t figure out how to edit it [emoji24]

You need one at the time of booking. If you don’t currently have a passport, I would suggest also adding on the Passport Card. It’s a wallet sized version of your passport you can use when traveling between the US, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean and Bermuda. I use it on domestic flights now that drivers license requirements are changing. It’s worth the extra money for the card and you don’t have to carry you full passport if you stick within the countries I’ve listed above. When I travel to Europe or Asia, I typically leave my full passport at the hotel, but I bring a full sized color copy and my Passport Card with me. I haven’t needed either. But, I like to have it just in case. We travel 4-6 weeks every summer internationally (land based hotel trips).

I meant to say you don’t need one at the time of booking. Whoopsies!

Meanwhile I've booked cabins through the site and I have no idea where they are on the ship. As an experienced cruiser I know location can make or break a cruise.
I am getting together a small group (8 rooms). I’m not one to call, since I work a ton. I’ve handled all my reservations via email. Our PCC usually responds immediately. Have you tried just emailing your PCC? We gave her a list of rooms we were interested in and she booked our rooms. I’ve never had to call anyone. Maybe try dealing in email only?

Hello everyone!
My husband and I have recently booked our first cruise. One of the things we are extremely excited to take part in are gala nights.
So I'm asking everyone, whether you dressed up to your absolute fullest or felt best dressed in your casual attire, to please post a pic!
Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing everyone!

I believe I was the only one who actually posted real photos on your other Gala thread. I think you’ll find that this chat board isn’t too keen on posting photos on their Gala fabulous outfits. You’ll find many people have reasons for not dressing up - extended travel plans, limited suitcase space, and just not into it folks. To each their own. People get pretty touchy about their reasons why not to dress up. I dress up every day for work, and I enjoy it. A cruise is an extension of my dress preferences. I don’t think twice about what other people wear. I dress for myself and my hubby. I appreciate it when he makes wears his fancy clothes, but still think he’s just as handsome in his shorts and flip flops.
Here’s another set of our group. One is for Gala night and other was our final night where we were docked in Venice

That blue dress is GORGEOUS on you SLOTheta. Love it.
Thank you! I have the pink and red version, too! Easy to pack and wear. Can’t wait to shop for our next gala night.

Thoughts from a long time gambler:
It is a form of entertainment for me, not as a way to make money. I am a "small time" gambler and set a strict limit on my losses per day and in total.
If you are going to gamble anyway, be sure you maximize the benefits you get from the casino for your play. Make sure your card is in the machine EVERYTIME you play (for table games be sure they have your card registered each time you sit down). While you should not play just to earn these benefits, since you are playing anyway, get the most back from the casino that you can. A good example of this is the Casino Rate discussed in this topic.
Know that the onboard casinos generally offer far worse odds than land based ones (after all, they have a captive audience).
For what its worth......
DaveOKC
I couldn’t have said it better. I gamble to have fun. I see it as my entertainment budget. If I get some perks and a discounted cruise fare, even better. We booked our cruise for next summer, but since I see we have a casino rate, we might go on Christmas cruise!

My husband will pack his tux too and will look marvellous in it. I love getting dressed up in a gown and look forward to the gala nights.
Mine, too! I love it when my hubby wears his tux and I have an excuse to wear(buy) a pretty gown. [emoji51]

We got lucky on the slots. The thing is we olay anyway so the discounted room is a bonus plus we always get a casino credit anywhere from 100 dollars to 800 dollars. TOM
Wow. I think I need to switch to slots. It sounds like people have made out playing slots. Do you get the casino credit on top of the casino discount on your booking? I didn’t get any casino credit offered on my booking [emoji24]

You all look so pretty and so handsome! If people enjoy getting dressed up, then go for it. Who cares what others are doing! Nothing is more attractive than a man in a nice suit!
Thank you! It was fun to get ready together and get dressed up for the evening. The wives all appreciated our hubbies in their suits and tuxes. We don’t care if others don’t want to dress up, I understand if people don’t want to go through the hassle. We stayed in Italy for another 3 weeks, it was a pain carrying around our formal wear. But, the photos of my husband looking dashing was well worth it!

HAL's website will only show a certain number of available cabins, however, many more are usually open for booking. I would look at the deckplan, find the cabins you are interested in and give HAL a call. I've had to do this a few times to get the cabin I want. There are other cruise sites that show a better reflection of inventory, but Cruise Critic rules do not allow us to share these. Sorry if I wasn't very helpful.
Great tip. I always though the HAL inventory shown on the site was current. But, when I booked my cruise on Thursday, many more rooms were available. I took the suggestions from CC and started rattling off room numbers. Our PCC finally found one that was available.
I wish the website showed all inventory, but I guess that’s how it goes.

Hey everyone looking to get ideas of what to bring/get for Gala nights. Post pictures of what you wore or are going to wear!
I didn’t see anyone post photos, but I will! Maybe it’s just my friend group, but we love themed events and dressing up. On my one and only Mediterranean cruise, we saw TONS of people dress up in suits, tuxes and gowns. When I looked around, a majority of the MDR dresses in at least a jacket and cocktail, many had suits or tuxes. We had the late seating. I didn’t really care what others wore, to each their own. But, it was nice to see so many people partaking in the “gala” look. But, I don’t think twice about seeing someone in smart casual. Whatever makes you happy. But, my friends and I like to dress for the occasion. Anytime we get to wear pretty dresses and see our husbands look like Bond, we are in!
We dressed up for our 2 gala nights. Photos attached.

We bought at $47 in 2016 for our first HAL cruise. At the time we thought it was high, but we wanted the OBC. It’s worked out so far.
