  1. The problem I have is you are saying that a lounge that is set aside for diamond members who have been loyal to royal that has a special controlled access shouldn't be a place for kids. I don't think that is right. If my child has earned that diamond level and can behave properly he or she should be able to go with me and have a soda with me in the lounge. I personally use this time with my kids to teach them how to be an adult, how to have a conversation how to be a member of society. I'm sorry but I think this is what is wrong with society today. people are not taking the time to teach children what should be expected of them in public and how they should act. So should children be exposed to adult conversations and adult atmospheres 100% yes. Should the parent use there best judgement and remove there child from a situation if the situation becomes to adult YES. I am not bring my children up devoid of adult interaction so they do not know how to deal with the real world. My kids will be well behaved and well rounded.

I agree. My children (now 22, 19, & 13) have all been cruising since they were young (Oldest 2 yrs and the younger 6 months) I am a firm believer that a child doesn't learn how to act in a particular situation unless you put them there and teach them. The problem is that many parents won't take the time to teach the child while in the situation. They just put them there and don't pay attention. My kids sit through a complete dinner in the MDR. If there was a problem when they were young I got up and walked out with that child for a few minutes. I remember one cruise when we sat down first night at our table for 4 with 2 of them ages 3 & 6. The two older couples at next table gave us the "eye". By the end of the cruise they spoke to us and admitted how nervous they were when we sat down the first night. Figuring it was not going to be a good experience. They were pleased to tell me what a delight our children were and they were so pleasantly surprised.

I understand children not being aloud in the Diamond Club during the cocktail hour. To me those couple of hours are adult only time. I think there are plenty of other opportunities on board for children to learn how to behave. And unfortunately, even though your child will conduct himself properly there are too many others who will not. Just look how kids (and some adults) conduct themselves in line at the buffet.

  3. On Oasis Sept 10th and leaving PDX for Orlando on Wed night red eye. Watching for Irma. Have had itineries changed and reversed over the years due to Tropical storms and stayed out at sea a few extra days for Jean in '04.

Cruising during hurricaine season is always an adventure. Just be prepared to go with the flow. ;)

    Safe cruising everyone.

  4. Yea we weren't really PLANNING this, but we just had to replace our AC at our house and we have had a really rough few months with medical stuff and just everything hitting at the same time and we are super stressed. we found a stupid cheap deal on this sailing for the 3 of us and I was like I KNOW it is more money, but we need to get away and just relax for a few days. I conned him into it but he is really excited :) Little one asks every day if its time for vacation yet lol.

Sounds like this is just what you all need. One of the best things about cruising with the family is that there is something for everyone. My husband plays basketball during the day but knows he will find me up on the sun deck camped for the day. So he comes and goes. The kids when with us would spen most of their time in the clubs. and we would meet up for dinner. We were on one cruise when the kids were probably 16, 14 and 8 and they were in an inside cabin across the hall. I got up the first morning and knocked on their door - no answer. The room steward was in the hall she's says, " Oh mama, they're already gone. They went to breakfast, came back and then the older ones were dropping the little one at his club and then going to theirs. They said they wanted to let you sleep." Yep, that beacme the daily routine. We would meet up for meals.

Take this time to relax and regroup. Sounds like you guys need it. ;)

  5. Hey all- Our 1st family vaca is in 2.5 weeks on the Oasis. It is the 1st time our daughter is going on a cruise. Anyone have any tips/tricks or things to do/avoid? We are currently on deck 8, Large Int stateroom. Hopefully the upsell fairy calls us with a good offer but if not, we are totally ok where we are. Our room has the pullout, vs pullman. Let me know what has worked/hasn't worked for your family! Thanks!

We've been cruising with our kids since the older two were 2 and the youngest started at 6 months. The are now 22,19 and 13. And still think it's the only way to travel. Just be flexable and be willing to take a walk if she gets fussy somewhere. We always requested a table in the dining room for just us. Easier to contol the situation. . I would have crayons and a book for them to colr in the MDR. I remember sitting down the first night in the mdr on one cruise and the look we got from the older two couples at the table next to us was priceless. They were horrified. The last night that table stoped me to thank me for having well behaved children and being willing to walk when needed. My kids tease me still when I tell that story.

The kids club is great and you can look in on her any time. I was always fearful my youngest wouldn't stay. It got to the point he didn't want to come out. I know many parents won't agree with my next statement but we have also left the kids on board in the clubs while we have left the ship in port. As they get older dragging them through shops in port just isn't fun.

I would make sure you have a small stroller with you. I would even take the little ones out of the room in the early morning and let my husband and older kids sleep in. We would stroll the ship. Just remember flexabilty is the key. Have a great cruise.

What week will you be on Oasis? My husband and I are on Sept. 10th for our 25th Anniversay.

  6. Interesting. I've experienced route changes due to storms, but not paid much attention when a ship is unable to return to its home port. Does the cruise line assist with expenses to get travelers from the alternate port to home? Presumably the home airport could also be affected, so it could potentially take a number of days to be able to return home. Of course, the outgoing cruise from the same port would also be affected. Surely the passengers on the next cruise don't all fly to the alternate city to get on the ship, right? What a mess for the cruise line.

We were on Mariner in 2004 when Hurricaine Jean hit Florida. We were due back in to Port Canaveral. We ended up staying at see a couple of extra days. Then we ended up in Miami because after the storm surge Port Canaveral was no longer deep enough for us to get in. Voyager Class was the largest at that time.

We were given free phone calls from the ship and notes from the Captain explaining our delay to give to school and employers ;) Everytime the captain announced a longer delay passengers cheered. Most people took it all in stride (until they started running out of certain beers) We had our 6 month old with us and fortunaltely I am an over packer. Had plenty of diapers and a Chef came to our table in the Dining Room and said they would start pureeing veggies if I needed food for the baby. It was great hearing the Cruise Director making announcements asking if anyone had extra diapers in various sizes.

  7. I'm not seeing that price for Harmony for August 18, 2018. The pricing I see is 1 person is $100.73 ($14.39 per day). Am I doing something wrong?

Sent from my ASUS_Z01BDC using Forums mobile app

Unfortunately RCCL runs different specials on their sailings. So what one person will report for a particular ship and sailing might not be the same for another sailing even on the same ship. Your best bet is to just keep checking your cruise planner periodically.

  8. In the past I've emailed rcldining@rccl.com and have always received a quick response back confirming that we can get a table just for our group of 3.

This year I emailed them over a week ago and have heard nothing back. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this and how long people have had to wait for a reply.

I was also wondering if anyone has been on Harmony and can confirm this...I was reading that only American Icon on Deck 3 offers traditional dining and deck 4 and 5 are both MTD. On Allure last year they had 2 decks for traditional and 1 for MTD and I was able to request to be in The Grande as I liked the decor in that one the best.

I sent a request Aug. 7th for our Sept 10th sailing and received a response with my Table number the next day. The day I sent it I received a response that the request was received and being forwarded to the ship.

  9. Thanks for quick responses. That's what I thought but I'm at work and don't have the credit card with me. Oh well, as soon as I get home then. Just hoping it's not a glitch since both prices were advertised as 30% off. $23 price difference is 2 drinks on board.

  10. Saturday night we purchased the Voom 2 device package for our Sept 10th Oasis sailing. It was advertised as 30% off with a total of $179. Today I log in and check pricing just for giggles. Well guess what it's still advertised as 30% off but it's cheaper. Dropped it in the cart $156. Definitely pays to check every day.

So here's my question: If I call will they just credit the difference or do I have to purchase and then return the first one?

    Thanks, Maria

  11. I couldn't find San Juan either...and I find it hard to believe that the Oasis is the only ship in port the day we are in St. Maarten.

If it's true, that's awesome! St. Maarten has been crowded with multiple cruise ship passengers every other time we've been there.

We will be on Oasis for Sept. 10th cruise and I just checked and we are only ship in Port in St. Martin and San Juan. Don't know if accurate but I agree certainly would be cool.

  12. Does anyone have any experience with Royal Gifts ,We purchased a scotch and soda package that's delivered to your state room ,suppose to be delivered on our first day.

    Thanks

My in-laws were on Anthem for Mother's Day. My husband arranged through Royal Gifts for a treat to be delivered to their cabin on Mother's Day (which was in the middle of their cruise) We were not on the cruise. Her gifts were delivered as ordered on Mother's Day.
