  1. So I finally did it. . . . I’m sad to say that I just cancelled our Christmas 2019 sailing on the Encore.

There was a really good chance that my husband would not be able to get Christmas off from work. When we sailed the inaugural Bliss to Alaska, our son was not interested in doing anything and mostly just stayed in the cabin while onboard. Didn't want to spend that kind of money to have him do the same thing again. And to be honest we already did the whole racetrack/laser tag thing and I wasn’t impressed.

My husband and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in September, so we booked the Breakaway for our anniversary cruise. Never sailed Western Caribbean, so we’re looking forward to the new experiences. Hubby is a little bummed that there’s no District Brew House, hopefully he can find a decent IPA onboard.

For all of you who are looking forward to sailing on the Encore, I hope you have an amazing time. I’m sure I’ll be popping in from time to time to read trip reports and see pictures once she sets sail.

    Happy cruising!

  2. I was watching a cruise vlog from the Breakaway when it was brand new. I noticed that there weren’t a lot of places to sit and relax on the Waterfront (like the Escape and Bliss). Does anyone know if that has been corrected since then? I really enjoy spending time on the Waterfront, but sadly it didn’t

look very welcoming in the video.

    Thank you.

  3. We were in aft balcony cabin 12910 on the inaugural Seattle to Alaska cruise. There was not a lounge chair when we arrived but we did request one. Plenty of room for a lounge chair in addition to the two chairs and table already there.

Here is a link to my full review, but here are some photos specifically of the balcony.

Thank you. We were on the same sailing, we had a large balcony, deck 8. Thinking about an aft balcony next time around and I’m glad to see there is room for a lounge chair.

  4. A little video clip of the Silent Disco last night! Everyone wears headphones and you hit a button to change channels to listen to 70’s, 80’s, 90’s or Today. Color of light on headphones lets everyone know what you are listening to.

[emoji23] I was wondering what the Silent Disco would be like. That is too funny [emoji23]

Thank you for sharing the video and for letting us follow along on your fabulous vacation.

  5.

I’ve changed into a Mickey Mouse t-shirt because I’m cruise-fat and that’s what Old Navy offered. Returning to Social...

Thank you. I almost forgot that I need to remember to pack appropriate clothes to accommodate “cruise fat.”

  6. True story

Me: I might have figured out what purse I want for Alaska, this woman Sue has it. And it looks really good and I’m going to see if she likes it.

Friend who doesn’t frequent message boards of any kind : Sue who?

Me: Um, well shes engaged to Doug...

Friend : how do you know Doug?

    Me: I don’t know him, but ...

    Friend: so you know Sue

Me: Not at all. But see Doug has this really great thread going on the CC Message board about the ship I’m going on to Alaska and posted pictures of Sue with this bag that looks really good so...If she likes it.

Friend : so you are going to ask this person you don’t know a question for his fiancée who you also don’t know about this purse and you think he will ask her and she’ll tell him and he’ll tell you?

    Me: Umm maybe.

Friend: Why would these people you don’t know want to answer a question from some random person? Why would you bother them on vacation? You know this makes you seem crazy, right?

    Me: yeah.

  7. maybe I'm a little too East Coast for cruising, but my first inclination upon learning about this 'leave a towel on it and its yours forever' phenomenon poolside and in lounges is to scoop up said towel/belongings, nicely place it on the floor next to the seat, and take the seat for myself. If someone complained to me about it I would argue that seats are for sitting, not storing belongings, you can tell by the name.

would I get in trouble for this sort of situation-handling on a cruise?

The Jersey Girl in me thinks there is nothing wrong with your idea.
