  1. Go to the "on demand" movies channel.  They have a few freebies.  We watched Pacific Rim 2 and Ready Player One at least 3 times on the Horizon last week LOL  We love those movies... the other one was a love story which we didn't watch.  If you want to rent a movie they're 4.99, we didn't rent any so I don't know how long the rental is good for.

Sad News to report. We received this email from Carnival. We were hoping to take advantage of our newly acquired PLATINUM status and board early.

    ARRIVAL APPOINTMENT CHANGE

    CARNIVAL HORIZON

    DECEMBER 23, 2018

    December 21, 2018

    Dear Carnival Horizon Guests,

Debarkation from the previous cruise will run later than usual. Since this will impact boarding for your cruise, please delay your Arrival Appointment by one hour (e.g.,11:30 AM - 12:00 PM appointment will become 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM).

Arriving before your revised time will result in longer wait times.

In preparation for final boarding and departure, all guests must be on board the ship no later than 60 minutes prior to the published sailing time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We are looking forward to welcoming you aboard for a FUN and memorable cruise vacation.

    Sincerely,

    Denese Waiters
Sr. Director, Guest Services - Contact Centers

I disembarked the morning of the 23rd and it wasn't delayed.  Self assist were leaving at 645am and tag 1 (us) left at 730.  We were on the road north by 815am.  They sent this email to about 90% of the members of our "other website" group before we embarked also.

  3. I've booked a transatlantic cruise (Carnival NY to Dover Jun 2020) but I'm stumped about the insurance.  I have to purchase the insurance within 14 days to get the pre-existing coverage, which is fine BUT how do I factor in the flight back to NY and all the hotel costs?  We plan on staying in England for 3 days after the ship docks.

Should I estimate what I think they might be?  I've search for fares for Jun 2019 to get an idea what they "might" be, but I don't normally fly.  Do fares change a lot year to year?

Will my insurance (I normally use travelguard) allow me to add the flight and hotels in Sept 2019?

  4. I'm still trying to figure out what the Bahamas have to do with this post. All paper work and boarding is done in the U.S. before you depart. Once on board you only need your S&S card and photo ID

It's probably their first cruise and they're covering all the bases by asking. I remember how confused I was those many years ago... and scared someone from my party wouldn't be allowed on-board.

On a side note I think if they had left out Bahamas someone would have asked where they were going.

  5. Thank you for all the replies!!

    I'm going to budget $30 + 15% + $2 tip. $36.50 per bucket max

We love getting buckets of beer during the movies. They stay iced down and we don't have to keep searching for a server when we're done with the first.

  6. I'm heading out next Friday and I'm trying to get an idea of how much money I need to bring for my S&S (I secure with a credit card but put money on it to cover almost all).

Does anyone know the recent price for a bucket of beer? It was $26 last time I drank on board, just want to make sure it didn't go up much more then $30. The wine I normally get went up from $26 to $32. I know $6 isn't much but my OCD and "list o' money" get uncomfy when it's off by more then a few bucks.

    Thanks in advance!!

  7. The reason I got a passport is because I have a German birth cert and consulate papers. It took forever (well maybe like 15 minutes) to get cleared. I've never cruised out of Galveston, just Florida, SC, Mobile and NOLA, they don't have a separate line for passport or birth certs (or didn't last time I went.. things change over night with Carnival)

  8. I have always typed in all that junk on the passports and am curious. Does not doing that seem to slow down your check-in process?

I've never typed it all in and check in has always been quick. They swipe my passport in their machine so I assume that's how they get the info I didn't provide. I leave next Friday on the Sunshine and actually typed all the info in before commenting....... so I'll see if it makes a difference.

I'm thinking the US Customs doesn't check the passenger list until it comes back, which is why people with warrants get a free shuttle to the local jail compliments of the police. If they checked BEFORE it left the info would be required. Who knows LOL Maybe I'll ask

  9. i need new passports but my teens are good. can I do their check in online now?

You can check in online stating you'll be using a birth cert and then present the passport at the terminal. I do that every time... I'm lazy and don't feel like typing in all the info that's required with the passport online check in

I cruise Carnival at least 4 times a years and it's never been an issue. My last cruise was Nov 2017

  10. I searched the themed cruises website and there aren't any scheduled for 2020, but that's just one site. The Feb 15th voyage is an 8 day cruise, as is the Feb 29th cruise. It's possible someone has chartered it for that week in between, a corporation or something like that.

Oh forgot to add the Feb 15th voyage doesn't dock back in Ft Lauderdale until Feb 23rd.

  11. That depends. If it's the one you're heading on in 15 days it could be on hold for an entertainer, VIP, or Carnival beard that "may" come onboard. If it's for a cruise later in the year it might be in a block reserved by a travel group.

Edited: I see your next cruise is on Princess.. so I'd go with the travel agent reason

  12. Did they deliver it to your cabin? Sorry lots of questions? And thanks again

Yes they did. It was inside and waiting for us when we boarded. At the end of the cruise you just leave it in the cabin and they take care of it.

No worries on the questions, I know it can be confusing when info is hard to find. If you have any more let me know

Oh and the lido buffet waiters are fantastic.... they'll help her get her food, take it to a table and get her a beverage. My mom became very spoiled LOL

  13. Awesome thank you so very much for this very infomative post. My mom has gotten to be a pretty good scooter driver so hopefully she wont have any issues on the ship..

Can she leave the scooter outside the dining room? She is fine to walk to the table its just long distances she has trouble with. She uses her cane for shorter distances.

You're welcome. I know when I was researching I had a hard time finding any info so I like to share.

I did not see any scooters outside the dining room. They had an area by where the waiters bring in the food from the galley. The person seating you will show you where to put it.

    Enjoy your cruise!!

  14. I have first hand knowledge and can share. My mom needed a scooter for our last cruise. When I added her to my cabin there were no accessible cabins left. Scootaround rents scooters that will fit into a regular cabin, they're called transportable electric scooters. We had a balcony cabin but I do believe all the regular door widths are the same size.

It's a VERY tight fit getting it in and out, mom couldn't get it into or out of the cabin. It had to be perfectly aligned with the opening and had to go straight back when leaving the cabin. There wasn't enough room to turn around in the cabin. I tried.... haha... almost got stuck. But after a few bangs into the frame (no one saw us do it so it didn't happen) I got a focal point where I needed to be aiming. Needless to say I became an expert at the end of day 7 and wanted to buy one just for the fun of it :):cool:. I had the cabin steward remove the coffee table so it had a parking space each night.

When we boarded I could not for the life of me get the thing started so I called their 800 number. Seems you can't leave the powering cable attached to the scooter when you want to drive it :)

The crowds around the shops weren't friendly enough for her to get into so she had to bring her cane and walk to the shops. The handicapped seats in the main theater were always taken so we skipped the shows. We had YTD so they seated us on the ground level but she had to walk to the table. I assume that others that are complete immobile would have their scooter parked for them after seating.

We did take the scooter into all the ports, even the tender one. The tender crew was very helpful getting her and the scooter on and off.

One thing that might save you some money... the credit card she paid for the scooter with had damage coverage included as a perk of the card. She only had to buy cancellation insurance.

If you have any other questions I'll be happy to answer them. OH and one word of advise... be patient when it comes to the elevators. We had people jump in front of us many times making it impossible for us to get in. Find out where your muster station is and get there before they start the announcements. We had to wait over 20 minutes to get an elevator.

My experience was on the Dream out of NOLA in Nov 2017.
