  1. We cruised in April 2010, western Caribbean - Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and a private island -we had rain in every port, Jamaica and Grand Cayman were all day pouring rain, Cozumel was rain off and on through out the day and the private island was rain at the start of the day. All of our planned days were impacted and changed/cancelled.

We still had a great time, we made the best of what we were dealt. The point - you can not change the weather, you can not will it to be what you want - enjoy your cruise, no matter what the weather.

    Have a great vacation!

  2. Snorkel in Roatan, off the beach in West Bay. Hands down the best snorkeling I have done and its free. Roatan is home to the worlds second largest barrier reef (after the Great Barrier Reef). Snorkeling in Roatan has ruined me for other places :)

Seriously, Google the reef satelite images and you will see the channel you can swim through and then over to the wall.

I follow the messages boards for Roatan and nobody that I have seen has posted about adverse snorkeling conditions - you could try the forums on Trip Advisor to see what they are saying.

    Have a great trip

  3. I have booked independent excursions for both Costa Maya and Grand Cayman already. Haven't really found anything I want for Falmouth yet.

I use both Cruise Critic reviews, and Trip Adviser. On TA there is a 'Things to Do' section for each area and it lists various types of activities, and from there you can see how it rated, and read the reviews. I then take those tour operators names and search for them on Cruise Critic. It gives my a good idea of what the tours are like and how the operators are viewed.

This is our second cruise, but we land vacation a lot - I have always had success with the independent tours I have booked. I find booking through cruises or hotels much more expensive and I very much prefer a smaller / private group for tours.

good luck with planning your vacation!

  4. I am sure that it is on the official port sites ahead of passengers being made aware. I took a leap of faith and booked an excursion in Costa Maya before anything official was announced (I based it off of the typical Western itinerary). The tour operator emailed me and confirmed the date, saying that she could see the Escape on the port schedule. It was a week later that our new itinerary was announced. Thankfully we are still on Costa Maya the same day that we booked.

I dont think that NCL is holding back information from its passengers. I do think that it takes a while to confirm the entire itinerary for the new ports and they can not announce anything official until it is all confirmed!

  5. Notyrmomma - I am sorry to hear about your reaction to Roatan, but please reconsider! I have been on land vacations to Roatan 4 times and it really is the most amazing place. I am not sure what a 'bun rush of locals' is, but what I can tell you is that the beach and waters are beautiful, the snorkeling is amazing and the people are friendly. I dont react well to crowds and overcrowding and find the rush to get off the ship can be overwhelming, but I can tell you, I will be front of the line if my Escape cruise ends up in Roatan! I will be thrilled to see this piece of paradise again!

As for Mexico, the earthquakes are not near the coast, and you should be fine for Cozumel and Costa Maya!

    Enjoy your cruise!

  6. We had a messenger on our myncl page for our November Escape cruise. Not an email though. Currently the updates have been confirmed until November but not through November.

I proactively started to look at excursions for a western itinerary and when I contacted one provider in Costa Maya she said that the escape would be in port on Nov 15......she see,ed to think it was confirmed. But again, I think it's just assumptions for now

  7. Todays message from NCL - we are on the Nov 11th sailing. I have started to look at / book excursions for the Roatan/Harvest Cay/Costa Maya/Cozumel itinerary just in case.

    Weather Updates 2017

September 18th at 10:00 AM (2:00 PM UTC)

Norwegian Cruise Line is heartbroken at the terrible impact Hurricane Irma has had on several islands in the Eastern Caribbean, ports that we have called on since the start of our 50 years in business, some of which are included in the itinerary that you are currently booked on. In the wake of this devastating storm and as part of our recovery efforts, we are working closely with our partners on the ground to determine the best way to continue to provide relief to the areas impacted by and recovering from Hurricane Irma and to determine the extent of damage that Hurricane Irma inflicted. We are anticipating that your current itinerary will be adjusted to ensure your comfort, safety and an outstanding guest experience. We anticipate having this information to you within the next two weeks as new ports of call are secured.

We appreciate your patience during this very difficult time. At Norwegian Cruise Line safety of our guest, crew and ships is our number one priority and we hope you understand that these changes are necessary.

  8. We did a Hawaiian land vacation 3 years ago and used the gypsy app, which downloaded to an old phone. It was amazing and we had great driving adventures with the app being our tour guide. Beautiful (and usually deserted) beaches, wonderful scenic views etc. Also, we rented cars from discount Hawaii car rentals dot come and the prices could not be beat.

    Have a great vacation!!

  9. We have 13740 and 13742 booked on the escape -

13740 the bed is by the closet

13742 the bed is by the balcony

The rooms generally alternate so you should be able to determine it from there.

Also, have you googled your room number? Videos, pics etc might show up is someone else has posted something previously, not just on CruiseCritic

  10. Sorry to bring more speculation to these boards - however does anyone know what ports (western) that the Escape can dock at?

The 'usual' Western itinerary is Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan and Harvest Caye - however on another posting someone spoke about Jamaica and Grand Cayman. If I remember correctly, GC is a tender port so that should be doable. What about the ports in Jamaica.

We are on a November sailing, and no matter where we end up, it will be a vacation and we will be grateful. I have noticed that while NCL is saying a 'western itinerary' they have not specified the ports - I assume it will be confirmed once NCL is able to confirm.

  11. Just for historical reference, we have a cruise with prepaid grats, and we booked at the end of November 2016, and the grats option was ending on December 1, 2016.

Thankfully our travel agent was aware of the change in the options and prompted us to book. Perhaps it will come up again in the fall season, as I was told that it is only offered once a year. I have been watching since the start of the year and I dont believe it has been offered yet in 2017.

  12. Has anyone been able to successfully book day passes for Atlantis through their website? I have been checking the site however it does not load the page after you clink check out.

I have used on the on line chat to ask, however they only thing they say is to call, which I am trying to avoid doing.

Any idea of the day pass prices? We have booked one room at Atlantis, which gives us 4 passes to the waterparks, however we need 2 additional passes.

    thanks
