  1. Hello, this is my forth time on Carnival...second time on the Ecstasy.

I am going to be traveling alone, and was wondering if there is anyone else sailing on this cruise. I am a early-30s, very fun and open-minded guy. Looking to maybe make a friend or two before the cruise, or have someone I can talk to or connect with during/on the cruise.

Also looking for any advice or suggestions or tips about the ship.

    Thanks!

  3. No free steam/sauna on NCL Getaway. Almost all Carnival ships have at least one free men's only steam or sauna; the older ships usually have both. Magic and Sunshine only one; Glory has both.

Thanks...when I did research, it didn't show Magic as having any of the free rooms...maybe this has changed?

Your list of ships, though is all over the map with regards to amenities, size, age and I don't see many of them being in direct competition. Do you cruise for itinerary or ship? Comparing the Getaway to the Paradise is apples to oranges.

Yeah, I am not a "status/amenities/name snob" like most, so my list of "apples to oranges" ships is perfectly suitable to me. I try to try out different ships so I can have a fist-hand experience of each ship, rather than rely solely on others' advice/reviews (a grave mistake I made when choosing the Grandeur and Conquest and Celebrity as whole---as everyone I talked to raved over it...but they were also older, so...); I cruise for the date and itinerary, not stuck up on "the biggest this" or "the best that".

  4. We have been on a few cruises, have never met any other couples (or singles) at these meets. Granted I can be a little slow on a few things LOL. Out and about I would have guessed I had seen a few, but I believe sometimes my gaydar is being influenced.

That being said, in the newsletters I have only seen mention was on Anthem of the Seas. Allure did not have it in the Compass.

In a couple weeks we will be on the Serenade and will see how this is.

We would like to meet others for enjoying a nice social evening but not much night owls, maybe I am getting old LOL.

Noticed you were on the Grandeur in June. How did you like the ship/crew? Passengers? Activities?

  5. I just got off the phone with Royal because on my last cruise I was told that in the remodels some of the Royal ships were going the way of the Enchantment, and not have steam/sauna in the locker areas. I contacted Royal to get the final word, since I stressed that not having these separate and complimentary services would result in my switching to a different ship and I wanted to be certain that I would not be surprised when I went onboard.

It took them a week of research, but here is what is current:

Oasis Class ships only have the paid spa area.

The Freedom Class ships all have separate, not co-ed, complimentary steam and dry sauna in the locker areas.

The Voyager Class ships all have separate, not co-ed, complimentary steam and dry sauna in the locker areas.

    The Radiance Class ships:

The Brilliance, the Radiance, and the Serenade all have separate, not co-ed complimentary steam and dry sauna in the locker areas.

The Jewel is now charging a fee for use of the area that used to be complimentary.

    The Vision Class ships:

The Grandeur, the Legend, the Rhapsody, and the Vision all have separate, not co-ed, complimentary steam and dry sauna in the locker areas.

The Splendor has complimentary steam room, but does Not have a complimentary dry sauna.

The Enchantment does not have either steam or dry sauna.

    I hope this helps.

Hey guys...cruising Grandeur in a few weeks. Can any, who has been on her within the last 6-12 months, confirms whether there is (still) a separate sauna and steamroom in mens locker room?

  6. We all have different comfort levels, I understand. But if someone is comfortable in asking personal questions to someone they don't know or if their curiousity justifies asking questions in earshot of others....then are there any questions that cross the line?

If a man seated two seats away from a women at a bar on a ship asks " well what kind of sex do you like?" Is his curiousity justification to ask? Because in my opinion, asking me if I am gay is the same thing? If all the people at the bar stared at the women to await her response.....should she answer, should she not let it offend her? Might she feel discomfort the next time she walks into that bar and sees the same people?

Does it come down to its all determined by the questioner? Is all fair game. Is it me who is in the wrong for being offended ?

I could understand asking questions in private once you spend time getting to know someone, but out in a public setting still seems inappropriate to me....

Very intelligent post, and very interesting point you have raised here. I am different in all types of ways from "normal society". So sometimes, you have to put things in perspective for people to understand. This one girl I work with (who is short, wide hips, and wears glasses), had a hard time understanding why some questions and comments were offensive to me. So I had to pull her to to the side and told her "it would be the equivalent as someone always referring to you as 'the girl with glasses' or 'the fat chick', (or if your amputee mother was constantly identified as 'the lady with one leg'), as if YOU are the anomaly in a society of 'defaults'---how would you like that--wouldn't that make you feel like crap?" I was warm and nice about it, and she "got it"--she later sent me a personal note thanking me for taking time to enlighten her.

I have the benefit of being a solo traveller. Never been asked about my sexuality, but I am usually accused of being a crew member. I've been verbally abuses for it too! Quite funny though.

Wow, that is funny. Don't know if that would be a compliment or an insult. ;)

  7. Does anyone have current information on the steam and sauna facilities on the new Regal and Royal Princess? Location? Are they complimentary? Coed or single sex?

    Thank you!

Hi I am traveling on this ship next year. Was the question ever answered on whether there is a complimentary or paid sauna steam area? Is it coed or single sex?

Any able to chime in with definite information?

  8. Reporting Live from The Liberty of the Seas (Royal Caribbean)...

Happy to report and confirm that the men's-only free sauna facility is fantastic on this ship!

Facilities description: Large Wet Sauna (seats at least 10 comfortably), Large dry sauna with portholes to the ocean (although almost entirely covered by immovable wood louvers; seats about 15 comfortably). 6 individual showers, 3 (in a separate area between the lockers and the saunas) with glass doors, another 2 directly across from the dry sauna with glass doors, and one larger handicapped shower with a curtain across from the wet spa. A locker room area with benches, a separate bathroom (toilet room), a water fountain, a sink and mirror directly across from the dry sauna, and a small resting bench directly outside of the wet sauna.

This sauna area has been open 8am-8pm every day so far. And it's kept very clean with plenty of towels always stocked. The attendants tidy up and restock about every 30 minutes or so, but I have yet to see them check inside the saunas.

Only negative has been the lockers. They don't seem to have enough of them working, so they run out of them quickly. But, I prefer just bundling my belongings in a towel and not bothering with the locker anyway...makes it much easier to come and go as I desire (you have to leave your room card in exchange for the locker key).

There is no check-in process (unless you get a locker key), as you simply walk in just off the entrance to the gym, which is a deck down from the Spa (where you get the keys to the lockers - another inconvenience). There is also a "secret" entrance from outside the gym, as this also (unfortunately) serves as the men's restroom in this section of the ship. It's hard to find, however, and I only noticed it being used a handful of times as a restroom so far.

Anyway, just three nights into a 7 night cruise out of Galveston, TX, but loving it so far!

Reply with any other specific questions I might be able to answer....

    Happy Cruising!

This sounds exactly like the setup on the Freedom of the Seas, I vividly remember every detail you describe. Very nice atmosphere with attendance from lots of gentlemen, very busy in the sauna and steam. :p

The locker room attendant was very attentive and tended to all my needs, each and every time I was there! Very friendly and accommodating...

  9. That's right, you are working on packing the bags for a little adventure, good for you. Memory says both are side by side. Kind of long narrow, windows at the ends. Rather relaxing set up. If I'm right, i think the sauna is one sided double bench style with sauna rocks on the opposite wall. Steam is beautiful marble tile, benches long ways each wall. The Carnival, Liberty and Conquest are my fav ships for CCL.

Yep, I'll be leaving 27 days from now! Getting excited!

Oh ok, by your description it sounds like the set-up on the Liberty.

Is the environment relaxing and intimate with low lighting, and advance opportunity to know if anyone is coming/approaching? Would hate for someone to walk in & interrupt if I am right in the middle of a deep conversation with another person or two. ;)

  10. <<< Especially if you are in deep in a conversation, because you have to be discrete. I did have an interesting conversation with the Gym Manager, when I asked him how he flexed his pectoral muscles. He was super friendly. >>>

<<< I tried to show everyone that it was okay to shower out there, they finally caught on by the end of the cruise. >>>

Yeah I have been in some deep conversations with the locker room attendants on various ships. One guy, on the Celebrity Summit, was very interested in my conversations, to the point where we spent many hours together engaged in deep personal discussions over a few days! ;)

I have even had intimate conversations with a Captain, a ship comedian, a performance crew lead, a band member, a night club bouncer, etc.

Gets very hot and sweaty in there when you engage in long chat sessions :) ;) :)

  11. My partner & I are about to go on our first cruise together (RCCL OTS 15 Dec 2016) and are looking forward to meeting new & interesting people over the 15 days. I think it's a shame when others are agists old or young! Hope to meet people such as yourselves.

Yeah, unfortunately many LGBT people have their own twisted bigoted agendas. Discrimination, on any front, is probably worse and most concentrated within the LGBT community. Just think, for every one agist, there are probably 20 racists that exist within the community. You would think that a group of people that are discriminated against, would not do the discriminating themselves. A very sad and oxymoronic irony, but very true.

Just have to make the best of it, and hopefully come across openminded and loving people.

  12. I can assure you, most of the other folks won't even be looking. Just walk like you know where you're going, smile at others, and enjoy your day. I've found people take quick glances and move on. Enjoy your time in public naked and feel the freedom.

When they glance, are they looking at YOU, or are they looking "down there"?

So what's been your experience on nude cruises, as far as being with your husband/SigOther? Do people look at you differently? Shy away? Whisper?

Just wanted to know if there were "phobes" in the nude crowd, and how everything is perceived.

  13. We were on the Elation the week before Halloween which was the five day to Cozumel and Progreso. Benjamin Lambert was the cruise director and we thought he was pretty good. Even though he hosted a very lame welcome aboard show, we thought that the main lounge shows were by far the best of any we have seen on Carnival.

I can be vaguely of help, I was on the Halloween cruise. The cruise director was Benjamin. I don't take a huge amount of notice of the CD's, I liked him in that he wasn't over the top and the announcements seemed fewer and less intrusive than on other cruises.

I was recently on the Ecstacy, where Benjamin has taken over the helm as Cruise Dir. I can say that he did a great job (one of the best CD's in my opinion) and was very personal and friendly with the guests. I met him personally and got a chance to have some one-on-one conversations with him.
