  1. The Midnight buffet is at any hour you would like it to be! You've brought so much happiness to all of us here, and our thoughts are with you now as you fight the big battle.

Enjoy every minute of every day with those you love, and know that you are very special to many, many people -- including all of your friends here at CC.

  2. My husband just went to the store so I called reservations to make sure I could keep my 123promo with the suite guarantee.

The guy said that the promo is now called "pick your perk" but maybe they could still apply the promo even though final payment was yesterday.

I told him I had already paid to upgrade the beverage package and bought four specialty dining package and another single dining and didn't want to lose any of that.

So first he said that the cost would be $1780.35 for me to move up. I had paid a total of $6647.56 so far. I was ok with that- I was figuring on $1800 for the two of us to move, but then he said that "oh wait" that doesn't include the higher tips or the add ons you purchased and that it now would be $2385.40 to move.

As there are only a handful of suites left mostly S2 cabins I think I am going to hold off and at least know what I am buying. As much as I would love a suite, and would be willing to pay the roughly $2400 I keep thinking of what the other poster said would I be disappointed that I paid $1200 per person more that I could use on excursions etc. and ended up with a HC S2.

So thank you for your hints and tips for the next few days I think I will "chew on it" that s2 is on sale less than the W suite gty and I think it probably would irk me to pay more than what I could get with the weekend sale and buy my own beverage package. The funny thing is with the current promo I could bring my son and his girlfriend at no charge if I wanted-no way this is our

25th anniversary not offspring allowed lol.

Sounds like a wise decision to hold off, especially if he only said that "maybe" you could keep your promo perk.:)

Since final payment was due on Friday, they may have more available cabins when business opens again tomorrow. And, if you handpicked your present cabin (on port side? to enjoy the sailaway view from Venice), you might not be as happy with the suite assigned to you on a gty basis.

  3. They run all night

    Chris

Hi Chris,..... sorry to be OT here on your roll-call.....

Can I assume that you have canceled the TA on Constellation for April? I've been trying to reach you about the seats you reserved for the Bruges transfer taxi with me. Lots of people are desperately wanting to reserve them if you are not going to be with us.

    Thanks.

  4. Lifting my glass to one amazing man who is missed! I, as many others on CC I'm sure will do the same.

Thank you, Pat, for again remembering and reminding us about this incredible man!

And, once again, sincere condolences on the loss of your father. It sounds like he was also one amazing and vital person! (Seems like his dog felt the same way about him and simply didn't want to continue on without him.)

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!

  5. Meow!

You may want to check a bit further down on this page of postings to http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1957965 They are probably pulling Century out of Asia earlier than planned and she will instead be going through the Suez Canal, probably in preparation to being turned over to France Cruises later

in 2015. Sorry to hear that this change of plans caused your booked cruise to be canceled.

Our Roll-Call for Century 9/16/14 from San Francisco to Sydney has long been discussing why the drydock (originally planned for 3-4 weeks in February 2014) was shortened to only 1 week, until we read about the sale of Century, which was probably the reason that X decided NOT to invest quite so many $$$ in renovation. No big renovation = no long dry dock

  6. For those of you who have frequently sailed Century & love her - is the MDR open for lunch on embarkation day? We are not fans of the buffets the first day on any ship, too many frantic passengers pushing as though they will not ever get another meal. We like the aspect of sitting & ordering meals, and having them brought to us while we have a quiet conversation while we relax after the embarkation rush.

This is our first Celebrity cruise, and sounds like the Century is really our cup of tea. We like the older, smaller ships that are more "classy" than the newer ones that look like Las Vegas on steroids. Call us old fashioned, but that's our preference. Good thing that there are choices for everyone!!

Hate to disappoint you, but I fear that none of the MDRs on the Celebrity ships are open for lunch on embarkation day. :( On the Solstice class ships we often use the "Bistro on 5" as an excellent substitute but, unfortunately, Century doesn't have this alternate extra-fee (very reasonable total cover charge of $5 pp) restaurant.

  7. We are in 4155. It is the furthest aft cabin on the port side. We are under some sort of unused area in the dining room. Neither our TA nor I could figure out what it is. He thought perhaps an elevator for staff use. The price has really gone up since we booked so upgrading is not an option. We are hoping for the best.:o

I can imagine you'll be just fine there. According to the deck plans on the Celebrity website, you're just under the aft corner of the port side of the MDR, so there are only tables there (with carpeting underneath them:D).

I don't know what the empty space next to 4155 is, but maybe do a search here for Century 4155 and see if anyone has more info for you.

Enjoy your cruise! We're looking forward to enjoying Century for 24 days next September -- San Francisco to Sydney :)

  8. As we will be on Century in January for our first Celebrity cruise, it was great to hear of all the affection felt here. Our only concern is that we are in an oceanview under the MDR. Anyone have any experience in such a cabin? We aren't concerned about noise during dining times as we will be out of the cabin. We are more concerned about 4:00 a.m. vacuuming and such.

We had a rather bad experience with an OV guarantee cabin (4107) under the MDR during a TA in 2010. If your cabin (Deck 4) is midships, directly under the galley (IIRC portside is worse than starboard), you may not be sleeping much after about 4:30 AM. That is when the metal kitchen carts started being rolled over the tile floors continually. If you can, try to switch to another - same category - cabin, further aft (not further forward, because several of those are - I think - remodeled crew cabins and have the supports for bunkbeds, which caused lots of shoulder & head bumping). At least a cabin further aft will have you sleeping under the dining room and not the galley.

We were finally able to switch cabins after a couple of days, but only because several cabins were available due to Century's having to go into drydock during the previous cruise (and many passengers flew home instead of waiting around for the TA to begin).

I don't think I would again book an OV guarantee cabin. What cabin number do you have?

  9. Yes, thank you! We had a fun time making it, such decisions - whether to group the flavors together or apart (we went with together), how wide or thin to make the "X", laboring over the angles, etc! And I see you are from Tenerife, what an exciting place to call home - we spent the day there this past April on a Transatlantic on Equinox and had a great day at Loro Park!

Guess we should have met on Equinox in April then!! (We were also onboard.):D Or maybe we did meet!

Yes, we live on Tenerife part of the year -- but only because we can't get our house sold :( (about 15 miles further west from Loro Park, in Icod de los Vinos)! Actually I'm from NYC originally, but have lived in Germany for over 30 years. Hope to meet you onboard a ship sometime soon.

  10. Celebrity definitely has dark chocolates at turn down, several flavors and varieties. We bring them all home to our kids, never eat any while on board. Check out the photo on my signature - my daughter and I saved all of our chocolates from our Australia/NZ back2back and made the Celebrity logo! Between the two of us on board for over a month, and the extra chocolates that our room attendant gave to my daughter's stuffed kangaroo, stuffed kiwi, stuffed NZ lamb (adorable room steward, some nights we had 6 chocolates!) - we accumulated a lot of chocolate!

What a GREAT avatar!! Didn't realize that it was made of X chocolates!:D

  11. You know , I hate to admit to this but we have always been in a concierge class cabin and it wasn't until we were on about the 9th day of our 12 day wine tasting cruise on the Connie last Fall that I actually looked at the room service breakfast menu that was in our cabin. Had no idea that we could get fresh squeezed OJ for free at room service. And....to make matters worse I had bought "fresh squeezed" several times at breakfast as a treat.:p So this Jan. we will be on the Connie again and in concierge again..but ELITE for the first time...anybody out there that can tell me what I can do with the Elite that I may not know about??? Secrets anyone???? By the way every time we go on a cruise and meet our room steward for the first time I always shake his hand with a folder $20 bill in my hand. We always get all the hangers we like , pillows galore and any furniture that we don't want taken out of our room etc.

If you weren't aware of the freshly squeezed OJ, hope you at least tried the variety of fruit smoothies that are available on the room service breakfast menu for Concierge level or above!:) (Although recently I haven't thought they were as good as they used to be -- maybe I'm just "jaded".)

  12. Good one, gonna change at the guest relations then!

Thanks alot, I hope it will be great as the last one on the Equinox :)

btw, "Captain's Club Host" - where do i find her/him?

Not sure if it's the same on all the Solstice class ships, but on the Equinox TA in April, I think the Captain's Club Host/Hostess' (changed mid-way) desk was in the open area (Team Earth) near the bank of elevators - on Deck 7. Although when I look at the little directory we received onboard, Captain's Club is listed as midships, Deck 5.

To be sure, ask at Guest Relations!! (while you are changing € to $):D

  13. Nice idea, i already wanted to note it .... BUT as I live in the EU and don't have one dollars it's hard for me - the lowest bill here is 5 EUR thats 6-7 USD. That way the chocolate looks too cheap ;)

No problem if you want to exchange some € (we also live in the EU) at the Guest Relations desk after you board. The exchange rate isn't great, but it will be easy enough to exchange €20 for approx. $25 (rate right now is $1.32 = € 1). That way you're sure to have enough single dollars for the room service deliveries. €5 is a lot to tip for a room delivery of breakfast or something simple. (Or, maybe change some €€ at any bank before you leave home. The currency onboard Celebrity is generally $$, even on the European cruises.)

Wishing you a great cruise on Reflection!!:)

  14. Aren't the new mattresses they've been putting in pretty soft?

Yes, they're soft enough for us, but the egg crates make them more like a "pillow top".

Actually, we learned about the egg crates while cruising with Princess. On a 32 night cruise from Alaska to Bangkok we really needed that extra softness -- Princess mattresses can sometimes be like sleeping on a cement block (or at least they were for us, and we like relatively hard mattresses!).

  15. Would you please explain what egg crates are used for in your cabin?

As a toy for kids maybe? Sorry this the first time I came across this word (english ain't my first language) and I don't get the connection to a cabin.

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

"Egg crates" is the term used for the mattress toppers that you can request from your cabin steward. So-called because it looks like the paper carton which holds 12 eggs. If you are used to a very soft, comfy mattress, then the egg crate will be very much to your liking.:)

  16. OK, I haven't read the other thread - what is this brunch, and why would I want to bring a camera? Is it in the MDR or elsewhere? What's so wonderful about it?

Yes, it is in the MDR, and the pictures of the "spread" and the ice sculptures etc. etc. are worthy of a place in your photo album. :D And if you should want to take any pictures, it makes sense to do so before the onslaught of "starving" passengers attack everything and decimate the beautiful arrangements.

  17. Not sure if this is was mentioned on the other thread but for people who have never been on Celebrity before it seems to me that they keep the wonderful brunch a little secret. They don't talk about it and it's not widely publicized, it's like you have to be in the know to know about it. We always love love love that brunch! Not so Secret tip (more common sense) is to make sure you get there early before everything is demolished and picked over :-)

We sailed the Summit & enjoyed the brunch on our only sea day. Our next X-cruise has 2 sea days .... wondering if the brunch is offered on each sea day or only once on a 7-day cruise .....

I can't imagine that it would be more than once on a 7-day cruise, seeing that it was only once on our transatlantic with 9 sea days! Generally, your waiter will remind you about it at dinner the evening before the event. ENJOY (and don't forget to take your camera with you -- best shots are usually from the grand stairway!) :D

Sorry LovesVaca -- I missed your posting -- started writing and was then called away from the computer, didn't mean to repeat what you said.

  18. The crowds get bigger and stay longer as people become aware of the draws

Awesome that some people get to win pieces! I love watching blown glass demos!!

    Thank you!

Just a couple of comments on your answers, John. The shows generally go for 2 hours (sometimes 10-12, or 1-3, or 4-6 depending on the day's schedule. Each of the 3 glass-blowers do one piece, or part thereof to be continued on the next day, and do the narration for one of the other two colleagues.). If you are on a transatlantic with several sea days, there are usually 2 shows a day. And sometimes even especially FANTASTIC nighttime shows. The shows really are wonderful -- as you mentioned. It's one of the reasons we love the first 3 builds of the Solstice class.:D
