  1. In my experience it depends on the category you book and the time of year. We are on the Sunshine the week of President's day and had minimal decreases and then all the cabins in our category were sold out. I continue to watch for higher categories in case I can bump up but the ship appears to be fairly well sold out. Other cruises we have taken I have usually had several hundreds of dollars of reductions. Definitely worth it to check prices in my book.;)

  2. Our first cruise was actually booked on NCL Norway before their horrible fire. We were led down the "repairs will be done" path for a while before they finally announced they were scrapping the ship. Booked with Carnival instead and had a wonderful time. Took a while for the NCL fiasco to fade a little. Did several Carnival cruises and then had the opportunity to sail to Canada on Norwegian Majesty out of Philadelphia. Perfect.....not! Horrible! Old, small ship but we have sailed Carnival Fantasy and several of the older ships without a problem. Done with NCL for sure. Have sailed Disney and it's wonderful if you can stand all the kids....we have 7 grandchildren and I miss the casino. Transatlantic on the Cunard Queen Mary 2, very luxurious but snobbish. MIGHT try Princess in the future but for now sticking with Carnival. Different strokes for different folks.

  3. Although it looks like all 1As are upper and lower some are not. We had one on the Valor and it was a single bed and the sofa made into a single. It also had two portholes and was far forward. When arriving in port you do hear the anchor dropping and some vibration, but we were up anyway. Next cruise is in February 2016 and we have an OV aft and are prepared for the same vibrations.

I can do an inside for a few days but not 7!

  4. Depending on where you live the humidity may or may not bother you. I cruised in August with my daughter and her teens and it didn't feel that bad to me....I live in NC but they are from Boston and they looked like three wilted flowers after we were out for a while. Drink LOTS of water and slow down and you should do fine. Carnival will avoid any BAD weather but you might see some thunderstorms which are normal for that time of year. Have fun!

  5. Call the Gifts department on Monday and they will help you. A nurse I worked with was cruising the Med and I only knew the ship, date and her name and they got the wine I ordered to her without a problem. I think it's a REALLY neat idea to send something as a surprise!:D:D

  6. It depends on a lot of things. In the past I pre-paid gratuities but then decided why give Carnival my $$ any sooner than necessary, so gratuities are always on my bill. I do now pre-book any excursions we take with Carnival so that leaves our bar bill which isn't much since DH is not a big drinker and maybe a few things I buy on board. Oh we usually add some additional gratuities for the Dining Room Staff because we do YTD and this seems the easiest way to make sure everyone gets something extra.

We usually come in about $500-600 for a 7-8 day cruise.

  7. I doubt you will ever see dishes of anything that multiple people eat from just because of the noro virus issue. Imagine how fast it would spread if people were sharing dishes of nuts or chips in a bar. Then there is also the "nut allergy" thing. Some people are allergic enough that if there was a dish of nuts out on the bar it could cause a problem. Just saying.....

  8. Hi all, it's been over seven years since our last Carnival cruise and might be booking one today on the Paradise. My question is, I assume they have a special area designated for this dining option and do they have tables for two or do they sit you with others that are already seated at large tables? I need to decide on this option or late seating? Thanks for you help!

We were on the Paradise in October 2014 and had a table for two each night with YTD. The tables are close, but that has never bothered us.

  9. Lots of choices. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Convention Center. Price was reasonable, breakfast included (continental) and there is a bagel place across the road. Walking distance to a store to purchase wine and plenty of restaurants on 17th Street from fast food to fancy. They also offered a free shuttle from the airport and a shuttle to the port for $5 pp but a taxi cost about the same. Love cruising out of FLL. My prices are based on 2 years ago.

  10. I have to go with the group and say the balcony is a necessity for Alaska. There is so much to see you don't want to miss a bit of it. I spent hours while were cruising the Inner Passage out there just watching and listening. It wasn't too cold because the barriers between the cabins tend to keep it warmer. We went on the first sailing in May and never wore our hat or gloves even when we took the White Pass and Yukon Railroad into the Yukon.

  11. It's not only medical conditions you want to think about. After an uneventful month in Scotland and a return flight to Boston we were stranded there by Jet Blue because of "thunderstorms" in the Raleigh area. Nothing available after our 3 pm flight until 8pm the next night. We're too old to do the "sitting in the airport" thing for 30 hours, so we found a room. The insurance paid for the room, transportation to and from the hotel, and our meals.....paid for itself and then some. One reminder....save all your receipts and submit them all should you be stranded. Would never travel without it again and I purchased it on "insuremytrip.com".
