  1. Yes, I remember those times very well. Our first cruise was on Princess in 1974. We shared time between Princess and Royal Viking until Celebrity came along.

I sometimes wonder if it's that things were really better then or is it because it was new and exciting. I know there were a lot fewer passengers aboard those cruises but there certainly weren't the number of options available that there are today. When I look at photos of the food and accommodations it doesn't seem as nice as many of the newer ships of today. I also know that each cruise is different from another and some are definitely better than others, regardless of the time period.

Karen, funny thing is we had the green bean bundles and potato baskets just last year on Mercury.

  2. A brief update from Constellation.

    Captain Manetas is the master.

The CD next week will be Jeff Potts.

The HD is Christian Deniel a great addition to Celebrity.

Perry Grant will be on board till after the TA followed by a 6 week holiday. He will not be moving to Equinox and will be on board Constellation except for a break at Christmas for a month or so.

The Rendezvous Lounge is plagued by a dismal Jazz group who attempt to play an occasional ballroom style dance. If you like singing band members, be prepared, fellow cruisers will do better.

The string quartet are the best on any Celebrity ship!!!

    Hi Arno,

    Is Mario still Restaurant Manager?

  3. I agree we need to hear the negatives as well as the positives, I just don't understand trying to stir up trouble where there is none. If your experience with Celebrity had been negative I could understand why you would bring it up but to just start a thread like this for no reason is beyond me. The other threads you cited were hardly worth raising a controversy.

  4. C2C,

    Thanks for the threads,

I have only sailed on M-Class ships with Celebrity except for my first with them which was the Horizon. I'm sure the better entertainers are on the M-Class ships. As I said the Cirque experience seems to have problems, but since it is only an addition to what is already offered, I find it diffficult to say the entertainment is worse because of this. Hopefully they will be able to make it better. It's not unusual for something new to take a little while to work out the problems. That's why they're not charging anyone at this point. Celebrity's entertainment has been one area where they could use improvement and in my opinion they are trying to do that. I've definitely seen some very fine performers that last few years. My last two cruises were on Constellation and the cast of the production shows was very good. There have been more guest performers and lecturers as well who have provided more options for the passengers. As I said, there's still room for improvement.

Is there some reason that all your threads are trying to elicit negative response, especially when you try so hard to say you really haven't had the negative experience yourself?

  5. I don't recall threads saying that the entertainment was going downhill in fact most of the things I read said it was better than it used to be. I've been on 17 Celebrity cruises and in my opinion the entertainment seems to be better than it used to be. Obviously the Cirque experiment is having some problems, but on the whole the performers I've seen recently have been quite good. They could still use improvement in some areas, but I would say they are trying.

  6. Lois,

I don't know what their tone was, but the reason they said that is there are a certain number of games that everyone must play to complete the bridge session and they are usually timed about right to the minute so people have time to get ready for main seating dinner. It's a continuation of the bridge lessons in the morning. I know it sounds ridiculous, but 10 minutes can make a difference in whether they finish and there are usually about 9 tables of players. I don't know about the other ships, but on the M-Class ships there are other game tables for playing scrabble and other games.

There certainly isn't any need for people to be rude, though. Just thought you might like to know why they were so concerned.
