Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. In August of 2023 we did the complete Mississippi on the American Serenade. A modern riverboat with large staterooms compared to the ocean cruise lines. Most passengers were age middle 50"s on up to 90's. They cater well to the older population. The lower Mississippi has wonderful plantation stops. And great music stops. The lower Mississippi is an engineered river with hundreds of barges. Once you hit the upper Mississippi, there's more recreational boating and beautiful scenery with a lot of bald eagle and white pelican sightings. We passed through many lochs on the upper Mississippi. That was interesting. I would highly recommend this cruise as a once in a lifetime experience. Small ship cruising is more laid back and personable. We probably would go on a large ship again, but we definitely love the small ships. We have two cruises booked for later this year on ACL.
  2. We were on that cruise. December 18th to the 26th. We had a travel clock with a temperature gauge. Our cabin on deck 6 was 64 degrees when we left Baltimore and 60.1 upon arrival back in Baltimore. While in our last port of call in Grand Turk we asked how to make it warmer for when we returned to Baltimore. The service person they sent up took notes, refused to comment and left the room. The only time the room temperature and ship temperature was semi decent was in the Bahamas. I feel bad for the crew. The staff all had jackets or winter coats on. The only place that had intermittent warmth was the casino where the slot machines were concentrated. So, if you take a winter cruise on the Legend, dress warmly. We had a nice time other than being cold. And yes the dining room food choices have gone downhill.
  3. We are going on the American Star from Jacksonville to Baltimore Inner Coastal next spring. Does anyone know where to embark in Jacksonville. I can only find info for Carnival cruises. Thank you.
