  1. We have friends that will be dropping us off. Should we tell them to be prepared for long waits too? Anybody have experience with drop-off in Charleston?

Uber/taxis drop off on Concord Street across from the Customs building so this is where I would have your friends drop you off. There is a parking lot & usually a big white tent set up where they take your luggage & have seats, water, etc. to wait for the shuttles to start running.

  2. You mentioned the gates being closed and not allowing people to come in to park. What about if you're taking an Uber, do they allow Uber/Taxi drop offs earlier or do they have to wait in line also?

(Sorry to leach on to your thread OP)

This is the luggage tag that I use. I previously used the one with the vinyl loop but It came off of my suitcase. I now use the stainless steel loop. This is by Shacke. It is wider and sturdier than the 1st one I had. Easy to use and reuse.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the picture & review. It may be wishful thinking but as I order these my hope is that they last through several cruises a year for a good dozen years or more!

  4. Our first cruise was in 2005 aboard Royal Caribbean. Friends we met invited us to the Art Auction where we received a free print. We were spring cleaning today & I came across the print which we've decided to frame & hang. So now I am wondering, do the Art Auctions on Carnival also give out a free print?

  5. The park and stay was the Radisson is was ok nothing fancy in charleston. I think 155. for 1 night and u leave ur car there all cruise no extra charge. free transfer to port on the way home it was 10. It was about 15 min. to the port

Ok, thank you for the info. Our next park & stay will be actually another 10 minutes further from the port than the Radisson you stayed at. Hope we don't regret it!

  6. Mary Ellen,

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to give me thorough answers! The older I get, the more I have to ask & clarify it seems!

Hubby & I are going to start cruising several times a year now that the kiddos are all grown. We'll be booking all of them on board this way now thanks to this discussion!

Thanks to everyone that participated with helpful advice & answers!

  7. What hotel did you use for the park and stay ? How far away was it from port and what did it cost ? Thanks !

Microbuck, I asked the same question, having stayed at several Park & Stay hotels in Charleston. We're always on the lookout for recommendations.

Here's three I remember that we've used, in order of preference. All were decent experiences & I'd be happy to answer any questions.

    1. Hampton Inn Charleston/Mt. Pleasant-Patriots Point

    2. Comfort Suites West of the Ashley

    3. Hampton Inn Charleston-Airport/Coliseum

We are trying a new one later this year: Hampton Inn & Suites North Charleston-University Blvd.

  8. I would love to take the advice/suggestions given here!

We are always nervous about getting everything 100% correct when we book onboard so we tend to skip doing so, but we love the onboard credit we get when we do!

To make sure I understand correctly:

    1. We need to request to book a sleeper/dummy cruise with the shortest, farthest out available cruise at the past guest rate. I am assuming we should also request the least expensive stateroom?

    2. While onboard, we will put down a $100pp deposit right then if it is a 3-5 day cruise? (It’s been a few years since I last did this!)

    3. When we get back home, we find the cruise we want & contact Carnival to change the booking to this new cruise.

    A few more questions…

    4. If the 3-5 sleeper/dummy cruise received a $50 OBC, will we instead get $100 OBC if we change it to a 7-12 day cruise?

    5. If our deposit increases because we change to a longer cruise, we will pay the increase when we call, correct?

    6. We always book Early Saver & watch for price drops. Once we book the Past Guest rate onboard, can we choose the Early Saver rate for the cruise we change it to if it is within the ES time-window?

Thank you so much for your help with this!

  9. Some of our must-haves in addition to the normal stuff:

2 boxes of International Delight French Vanilla Creamer Singles for DH. This has saved us from spending a small fortune on specialty coffee drinks on board. I've even taken Starbucks Via Singles to add to the free stuff but the new brew they serve was quite the improvement.

Travelon 3-Speed Personal Folding Fan for me. I'm an oven so I use it to set on the desk while in the stateroom, especially while doing my makeup, & to hang around my neck when needed.

Auto Air Fresheners from Dollar Tree to hang up all over. We started bringing these after a very stinky stateroom experience.
  10. We’ve stayed at several different park & stays in Charleston & have a different one booked for this September. Would love to hear which one you chose & your experience there. Did you choose morning or night room service on board the ship & how did that work out for you? I just recently started reading the forum & I saw that this was a new change. Thank you for your review!
