  1. Hi there,

We are going on the Oasis for the first time in April and are trying to decide what to purchase for our kids (ages 13 & 11) for a drink package. Do the coke machines have Dasani water (thought I saw that on a video that was posted on another thread), and soda water? Lemonade? Fruit Punch? I don't want my kids to be locked in to drinking only soda all week, and if the machines don't offer other choices, I'm considering the Replenish package for them.....but that is significantly more expensive. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks.

Yes! The Coke Freestyle Machines on Royal Caribbean offer Dasani water (plain or in several fruit flavors and also available carbonated), Minute Maid Lemonade and Hi-C fruit punch, both which are available in several flavors.

Photo below is the beverage options available shown from a Coke Freestyle machine on Allure.

  2. Hey guys! It's my first time on this site and I'm addicted! I am going on the Oasis in August as a first timer! I am really excited, but I am definitely a planner. I have a few questions if anyone has any input. I would really appreciate it!! :)

Has anyone found that buying the Premium Beverage package to be worth it? We are going with another couple who are also in their 30's and want to have fun and relax. I thought maybe this package was the way to go. We don't drink a lot, but 4 or 5 a day possibly.. ??

Also, what is there to do as far as nightlife on the ship besides the theater and comedy club? And how late do the bars stay open? Are there dance clubs?

Pools.. Which is the best pool to go to on the ship? We love children, but (no offense to anyone) we would prefer an adults only area.

Finally, is it worth paying the extra money to go to the "specialty" restaurants?

    Thank you soooo much! :)

    Welcome to Cruise Critic!

Oasis of the Seas is a fantastic ship and you will really enjoy it!

To answer your questions, I'm in my 30's so I can relate:

    1. My opinion on drink packages (especially the premium one) is that the folks that will benefit the most with these are those who drink a lot. They are expensive and if you only plan to drink a few drinks a day, then you will probably save money by just paying for each drink rather than buying a package. Otherwise you might drink more than you normally would in order to make sure you are getting your money's worth. ;)

    2. There are several places to go for nightlife activities. Boleros (Latin), Blaze (club), and Viking Crown Lounge (live music) are a few. Check the Cruise Compass for the Bicardi sponsored party that happens in the Solarium. It also might be listed as "21 Party" or something like that. It happens in the Solarium at night.

    3. The best area for quiet relaxation is the Solarium. The Solarium on Oasis is 2 decks high. I always lounged on Deck 16, 1 deck above the Solarium Pool. There is a bar near by, and you can always just walk down a flight of stairs to cool off in the pool. Also the Solarium has a Bistro on Deck 15 with lots of healthy choices if you get hungry. Another pool I would recommend is the "walk in" beach pool which has loungers that are in a shallow area of the pool. Very refreshing! :)

    4. I would recommend you try a specialty restaurant just so you can see if you like it. If I could recommend one I would say Giovanni's Table (Central Park, Deck 8) for lunch. The lunch price is cheaper than the dinner price, and if you like Italian food then you'll be happy with the selection. The attention to detail, service and food is better in the specialty restaurants in my opinion. But you'll still find great food and service in the Main Dining Room. Also if you like burgers and fries don't forget to try Johnny Rocket's in the Boardwalk on Deck 6. It is only $4.95 per person and includes unlimited onion rings and fries.

  3. Hello, My Cruise Critic Friends--If we have a flight out of MCO at 10:25am,

Is there enough time, with early disembark, to make the plane, Should i change

the flight? Will save me[us] 5 hrs. travel time. Thank You.

Well considering you should be at the airport 1.5 to 2 hours before your flight leaves, you might be cutting it a little close. The travel time from the port to MCO is around 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic.

I sailed on Freedom of the Seas from Port Canaveral in 2010 and customs delayed everyone getting off because of an issue. I didn't leave the ship until 9:15am and my flight was at 11:30am from MCO. I did make the flight but it was really close. To close for comfort for me.

  4. I must say, the sheer amount of ship they've yet to disclose is astounding to me... she sets sail later this year, it's not like we're two years out anymore! I'm really, really surprised. Part of me is wondering whether we'll actaully get to the release of the second set of Quantum dates (beyond 4/15) before they reveal the dining options!

Who am I to second guess RCI, but I think this is poor planning... I think they should have done a full reveal when they opened bookings to generate the maximum excitement.

I would agree with your statement. I too am surprised that we don't know more. At this point during Oasis construction we knew all there was to know. We hardly know anything about Quantum, and Anthem comes out early next year, and we know virtually nothing about that ship either.

As I announced before michaels is a 100% for sure thing.

I would say there is no chance of solarium bistro being there as it's the worst performer on oasis as is planning to be scraped fur in the dry dock.

What is Michael's? I must be really out of the loop as I've never heard of this before.

  5. Hey there. Looking to book the Quantam and we are huge Momma Mia fans- does anyone know when the show premiers on the ship? I want to be sure it's on there when we go!

As Ourusualbeach posted, Mamma Mia will be playing when Quantum of the Seas sets sail in November. So no matter when you book, you won't miss it! ;)

  6. Have been on smaller ships. This is the first time on a mega ship.

Booked Central Park balcony 11645. Can you fill me in on what to expect?

Any must know tips? How far is the port from the airport and what is the best way to get there. Thanks in advance.

    Susan

Expect large expansive areas. Expect a lot of people on boarding day, but what seems like an empty ship at other times. Expect to have the option to see and do a lot of things, if you want. Expect a lot of different dining and entertainment options.

The airport is a stones throw away from the cruise port. You'll most likely see the ship from your airplane as you land.

Tips: Don't try to do everything. You'll only exhaust yourself. Do see the all the shows and visit the 7 neighborhoods.

  7. My wife and I are thin people and we feel the ship is always cold no matter where we are. My wife will wear a sweater/coverup during dinner and jeans and long sleeve shirt at the shows. But temperature will depend on what you consider to be warm or cold. I keep my A/C in my house set at 78 in the summer. Heat is set at 70 in the winter.

  8. I remember the time when I used to drive by the port and I was able to see the Liberty docked at the port. Many ads in the freeway showing royal and the liberty.

The liberty is gone from miami and all I see is carnival, Ncl, ms even disney at miami. Royal is gone ;-(, they only left the majesty of the seas. It's funny since they have the headquarters in here but not many ships sail from miami

Obviously Royal Caribbean thinks Port Canaveral and Port Everglades are better than Miami. And in my opinion they are. Superior facilities, Fort Lauderdale airport is a stones throw away from Port Everglades.

  9. Is Oasis OV the same price as Freedom B2B? If so I would do Freedom B2B just because it offers more time. Oasis is awesome (I've been on both Freedom and Oasis) but more time = better vacation for me. Freedom is still an excellent ship, especially if you haven't been on her or the Freedom Class of ships before.

  10. [quote name='fletch1027']I work for Turner Broadcasting and at least in the realm of our networks (TNT, TBS, Cartoon, TruTV), what is available (at least on the FOS a few months ago) was either a direct feed from our Latin America versions of these networks, or batches of content supplied by our Latin American networks and played out in a loop of some sort by the IT people on the ship. On the FOS, you can see all of their broadcast equipment through the glass on the way to the ice rink...

This is correct. Some channels offer a live stream mostly from international sources while others offer bunched up programming that the ships onboard tv studio puts together. Copyright laws mainly prohibit a lot of US content to be broadcast outside of the US. A lot of the programming is in other languages for foreign guests.
