Yup I've seen all these pics but until I see the finished product filled with people and what activities are planned for the Royal Esplanade, I will hold judgement as to whether it's better or worse than other RCI ships. Right now I would say it's neither better or worse, just different.
I will say I've seen enough photos to know it's nothing like the short promenade on the Solstice Class ships which is really just a small walkway.
Yes from the photos it does look much larger. I wouldn't even call Solstice Class space a promenade. At least nothing compared to Royal's promenade. They call it a Galleria of Shops? The Quantum class ship design does remind me (in many ways) of the Solstice class of ships though. From the exterior (some sections pushed in on the sides) to the more upscale decore of the interior. Main differences will be Quantum class is larger in size and so spaces onboard are larger.

Here are some photos of Quantum of the Seas Royal Esplanade. Height of Oasis Class Royal Promenade? Not sure on length, hard to judge.
Comments from the photographer (translated): "At the latest when looking at the Royal Esplanade may be the thought out loud that this new building would fit into the fleets of Celebrity Cruises. At least as far as the inner values remind many areas on the Solstice Class!"

Having sailed on the Solstice Class ships and seeing pictures of the Royal Esplanade on QUANTUM, I don't think they are anything alike. The Solstice Class has one small section that is like a promenade, that has shops on one side and the casino on the other and it's very short.
What I see on QUANTUM is a much more extensive and long promenade that although is not a straight line like the Royal Promenade on the Voyager/Freedom/Oasis Class, it essentially serves the same purpose. I anticipate the usual parades and this Royal Esplanade being the center of activity for the ship with bars, restaurants, and retail venues all along it. On the Solstice Class it's essentially a short walkway with little activity and just a method of getting from the small forward atrium area to the main atrium midship. It's certainly not a place where people hang out like the Promenades on Royal Caribbean.
You are exactly right. What I meant by comparison to Solstice Class ships, is smaller in size and more upscale in decore. Quantum RP can't really be compared to the traditional Royal Caribbean RP that we all know and love.

She went to the doctor. Will be back soon.
She went to the plastic surgeon. It is a few week recovery. But when she returns, she'll look just like new! A nip, and a tuck, and oh so fabulous! :D

My wife and I will be going on our first cruise in February on the Serenade. I've been reading some of the threads in this section, and started reading some thread about dining. And I must say - I am really bummed out. I'm beginning to think I should have saved some money by TIVO'ing some Caribbean shows on the Travel Channel, turned our thermostat up to 85, and just go down to the Golden Corral buffet to eat.
I'm not sure if it's just a bunch of jaded cruisers with 20+ cruises under their belt lamenting on how the food is getting worse over the years or what, but really, is on-ship dining really that bad? Of course, you must realize that being from a small rural community in Illinois, fancy dining to us is defined as going somewhere that you don't order your food at a counter and carry it to your seat :o
If your idea of good food is Golden Corral, then I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy your first cruise! :D

Will Quantum have royal Promenade like other rcl ships?
Quantum of the Seas will have a promenade similar to the Celebrity Solstice class of ships.

Great Video! The best part was the pool in / out sequence.

We will be cruising on our 1st Royal Caribbean in June 1015 on vision of the sea in Europe.
We are pros on Carnival but wanted to know on Royal the extra specialty restaurant like Johnny Rocket and etc are those extra cost? If so do they charge it to your room card?
Also does Royal offer anything you can buy to get onboard faster like carnival (FTTF) does?
Click below for a pdf of the Royal Caribbean Dining Guide which includes prices.

Yes photos of Oasis in drydock will be wonderful to see.
This is the schedule I found on the Port Rotterdam website of her arrival.
The ship yard that will do the drydock is Keppel Verolme
Hi Emmy! Waving up to you from Lansing, MI! Thanks for all your wonderful photos, Facebook posts, etc. You always keep us informed!

Some of the best I've seen, including some new areas I haven't seen captured before.

Enjoy!
Thanks for posting. Has anyone ever been on a Celebrity Solstice Class ship? I see a lot of similarities. Not that it is bad, those ships are stunningly beautiful. I'm glad to see more modern upscale decore. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Thanks for the note. I guess those here on CC who have sailed on the Solstice Class ships can tell us how the promenade on Celebrity compares to those on the Voyager, Freedom and Oasis Class ships.
The Royal Promenade on Quantum and Galleria Boutiques on Celebrity Solstice Class won't compare in size or style to the Royal Promenades of Voyager and Freedom Class. It is more scaled down, not as grand. It also isn't as tall, doesn't span as many decks.
-
I would like to know more about the promenade (decks 4 and 5). Would be great to see some internal photos. Would also like to know exactly what the "glass enclosures" on the Port and Starboard side are.
Thank you and enjoy your trip.
The "Royal Promenade" will look similar to the Galleria Boutiques area on Celebrity Cruise Solstice Class of ships. Look at the exterior of the Solstice Class, Quantum looks similar to exterior design as well. Expect the "Royal Promenade" to resemble existing promenades with the tile cobblestone look floors.

Like the blue
But, how do you know that this is not just the primer
One might guess that because the ship name has been painted on and the indicators marking the bulbous bow and thrusters that the blue paint is the final coat.

Final payment for our Dec 1st cruise is two weeks away. First I book a cruise on a ship not built, second I pay for a cruise on a ship with yet to be revealed areas. I am happy to be sailing on her but disappointed with the lackluster way Royal handled the build.

I agree! Must be the final details are really going to be amazing? Or not.

It is so strange to see the ship all in assembled segments. So different from how STX Europe built the Voyager, Freedom, and Oasis class.

A few months before Quantum arrives at Southampton and we are missing info on the bars, lounges, casino, spa and some sort of Royal Promenade.
I believe there are still 5 "more to come".
Never has a ship been so secretive!
All I know is the final reveals better be amazing! :D

Wow, isn't the terminal suppose to be completed by November in time for Quantum arrival? Seems like they've got a long way to go!

Being Quantum is going to have studio cabins, has anyone heard if they will have any kind of studio lounge like NCL has on the Epic and Breakaway?
With the new dining, it will be nice to be able to meet up with other solo's for dinner, like you can on NCL.
I did read that Quantum Class will have solo staterooms, but no further information has been released. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the media preview that will happen at the end of August.

I have a question about the RCCL Anthem deck plan. Near the center elevators/stairs there’s a large blank space, which when looking at the photo of the ship is where the smoke stack is located.
Do you think cabins right outside the blank space, such as 12252, 11252 ,etc would hear any noise?
Thanks,
Monica
Hi Monica,
Yes there is some noise from the central ventilation and exhaust system. It is a fan type of blowing noise, not extremely loud, but while walking down the stateroom hallway you'll notice it as you get closer to that system. Generally while in your stateroom the ship does make noise from ventilation, a low humming noise. Whether it would bother you, if you're sensitive to noise, it would probably be best to book a stateroom in another location. Blank spaces can also indicate crew stairway, which can be noisy at times.

7. Don't buy a baseball bat in Mexico or you will have to pick it up the naughty table on the way off (there were tons of irons, an electric frying pan and a yogurt maker also on the table!!
LOL They should list the funny things people try to bring onboard in the Cruise Compass!

I know I WILL be reamed and nailed to the cross on here for saying this, but hear me out before you start swinging ..
We were on Explorer recently and have also sailed on Liberty and Monarch and they were all great cruises, but I noticed (also from pics of other RC ships in the Cruise Reports on here) how overly similar the feel is on all of them.
The décor and the names of all the venues are the same on each ship (Schooner, Boleros, etc) , the room décor (those dull drab mauves, beiges, blues), the corridors, the WJs ... even the MDRs on the bigger ships .. everything kinda looks the same ..
Wouldn't it be a little better if they gave more individual personality to each ship? I know they vary by class as far as certain amenities (like Oasis class .. and how some have the Flow Rider thingy) ), but I was struck by how similar Explorer felt to Liberty and how even the Monarch had the same feel in some ways.
Im not saying that they should ever go over to the gaudy crap Carnival does .. but wouldn't a little bit of individuality for each ship make it more interesting for repeat cruisers?
Anyone else get what im saying?
I agree with what you are saying and have observed the same on the cruises I've been on. For me, I prefer this. No matter what ship I sail on in the fleet, I get a consistent cruise experience and am familiar with the venues onboard.
Not that I know for sure, but I'm getting the impression that Quantum class might look significantly different than the previous Royal ships. You are right Bob. If you have ever sailed on a Celebrity Solstice class ship, or have looked at the deck plans, you will see many similarities. From the exterior shape of the ship, to the stateroom layouts and design. Even to the shopping and restaurant areas. I think Royal Caribbean is most likely going in the right direction with this class of ship. More upscale, more unique with a higher quality of materials, and a better over all cruise experience.

[quote name='Nhsaltshaker']I'm no expert but I find it hard to believe there would be much difference between ships.
Anthem deck plans have filled in 'More To Comes' than Quantum plans.
It's mostly restaurants...see for yourself. No Schooner Bar yet.

So odd not seeing a 3 story main dining room. Also the specialty restaurant locations on deck 5 seem weird. I guess they won't have a nice view anymore? -
Finish deck plans.
Thank you. There is a lot of unknowns according to the deck plans. I don't really understand the whole situation. Oasis had many reveals, like all the neighborhoods. Quantum has unique spaces, but where is everything else? Yes we know about Two70, SeaPlex, the 4 main dining spaces, and Mamma Mia in the theater. But what else is there? No talk about pools, other interior spaces like Casino, Royal Promenade, etc.

Good. If you want to eat in a fancy restaurant, you should look the part.

I love your comments about this, it is the truth! I wish they were releasing photos and videos of construction like they did with Oasis. Being quiet deflates all the excitement.
