Well it looks like it's a website glitch. I know, what a shocker.
If I try to sign us up for the kids class it says me and my 12 you are too old. Even though it lists a price for adults. And if I try to sign us up for the adult class it says my 10yo is too young.
So it looks like we won't be signing up at all.
I signed up on board, I think on the first day. You could (at the time) cancel 24 hours prior without penalty so you could change your mind if you wanted to.

I did it on Freedom and enjoyed it. I had some OBC or I probably wouldn't have done it, but it was fun! Our class did the Puppy Dog Cupcake.
I wouldn't be surprised if adults had to pay the adult price if they participated in the kids class.

We leave next week too. I'm packing a few articles of warmer clothing, mainly for embarkation and debarkation days since we are leaving from Galveston and not southern Florida or Puerto Rico.
This is my first winter cruise, but we honeymooned in the Dominican Republic last January and the weather was in the low-mid 80s all week and it was wonderful.
I also get cold easily on the ships after a day in the sun, so I usually bring jeans and a sweatshirt even in the summer. lol

I much prefer independent excursions because they are almost always less expensive (or at least more bang for your buck), less crowded and a better experience.
I will do a ship excursion if it is a super long excursion that involves traveling a long distance and the time would be cutting it close, if it the only way to do that particular excursion or if I have OBC that I want to use.
I'm getting ready to go on my 7th cruise and I've never been left behind by using an independent company or going DIY.
-
It absolutely is possible to spend no money on board the ship if you don't drink and aren't tempted by the spa, shops or casino.

I don't remember which RCI ship we were on when the Giants won the Super Bowl but they showed it on a screen in the theater and it was a lot of fun! Fans stood for the national anthem, jumped up and cheered just like they were in a stadium. They had "tailgate" type food right outside the theater on tables.
That would be so much fun if they did that for this game!!!!

You're right, and I'm hoping this year's Championship reflects last night's game, and past history with the Ducks! We won't be on board a ship for this one, though, we'll be in our living room, we'll be on board a couple of weeks later. We watched in the Sports Bar, whatever it was called, on Serenade both times. Both times the lounge was crowded with noisy Buckeyes fans, with a few for FSU (both times, I think, second for sure). The Bucks fans were really quiet by half time, and the few other guys had gotten really noisy.
This year we're on board for the Super Bowl, but coming from Northeast Ohio, we don't have a horse in the race, so....
We are also Steelers fans, so I have no sympathy for the Browns. :p But we can agree, Go Bucks!
-
We have, twice. And the Buckeyes got creamed, twice :(. Hopefully it'll be better this time!
Well we (Buckeyes) were supposed to get creamed by Alabama and they were wrong.
And even though the past means nothing OSU leads Oregon 8-0 in head to head meetings. :D
I'm also hoping the game will be shown on Navigator... I didn't think the date selection through when picking out our cruise. lol
-
We are using the RCI shuttle for ground transportation for the first time ever for our Navigator cruise.
When they load our luggage will the porters take it off and load it to the ship or do we have to claim it and then hand it over to the porters ourselves?
I'm trying to figure out how much cash for tips we need.
Thanks!

Thanks! I assume no issues with the naughty room?
We are taking the RCI transfer to the pier, so I doubt we would be there too much before 1:00 so carry on shouldn't be a big inconvenience.
-
Does anyone have any recent experience in bringing a pack of water and/or soft drinks on board with you? Please share the good, bad and ugly!
-
I will better be able to compare after our cruise that leaves next Saturday, but if you will be leaving out of Galveston for Navigator I would probably go for the Freedom.
Galveston has been annoying to deal with, mainly to find reasonable ground transportation. The cheapest option is actually the RCI transfer unless you have more than 2 people.

Whew! Glad to know our chances are good to see the game.
It didn't look pretty the first part of the Sugar Bowl but our Buckeyes came rolling back and are currently leading in the 4th.

DH and I just realized that we will be on our cruise for the College Football National Championship game.
If Ohio State can beat Bama (Go Bucks!!!) we will be just a tad bit interested in the outcome of the game. I seem to remember that we had ESPN on our Majesty cruise in August, does anyone know if it is fleetwide?
Can anyone speculate on the odds of it being shown on the big screen by the pool? :D

I think they should have a TRUE 24 hour buffett. The Windjammer was closed between lunch and Tea and between Tea and Dinner. Also, if you are hungry late night the only option is room service which is a pathetic menu and that Coffeebar/Cafe in the promenade that serves finger sandwiches and soggy pizza.
In addition, they should have a poolside grill for hamburgers and hotdogs etc..
I think of all the cruise lines RCCL has the worst food venues to choose from.
Yes! We should have the option of hot food without resorting to room service during the day.
We often come back to the ship between 2-3 and want a late lunch and there isn't anything available but iffy pizza.
The food is pretty blah in the MDR too. They are trying to make fancy food and it isn't even as good as banquet food in most cases. I wouldn't be offended if they went back to the basics and more well known dishes. I find the "spice" menu theme to be very limiting and not appealing to my personal taste.

How was debarkation? I've heard that it gets backed up after the stop in Belize.
-
I would spend a good chunk of that in the (overpriced) spa if you aren't big drinkers.
-
What about Salsa Salsa Margarita? Your Dad can have virgin drinks.

Ship - Majesty of the Seas
Deck - 7
Stateroom # - 7043
Stateroom Category – K
Starboard or Port Side - Starboard
Quiet Stateroom? – Yes, we had no noise issues in this stateroom.
Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No
Any specific problems with this cabin? - The only problem we had was the shower curtain didn't reach the floor so it got the bathroom really wet during a shower.
Any other comments? - Good location, near the Centrum and elevator lobby.

It looks like there is a price drop on our January cruise and I can upgrade from an E1 on Deck 7 to a D1 on Deck 10 for $200 less.
I see that we would be below the spa and vitality center. Any concerns about noise from the gym or being so close to the front?

Thanks...I have not been able to do anything with the cruise planner on the Royal website. I've been told that they are having technical issues.
I called Crown and Anchor just now and they made the reservation for 10 people. I was told that the table should be large enough to accommodate 11 though and to ask when we get on the ship. I just want all of this to run smoothly so that we can relax on the ship.
Can you switch to a regular dining time and link the reservations so you are all seated together or do you actually want MTD?
-
Cool, thanks. How about the ice skating, wall climbing, surf thingy and the fitness center? Are those extra?
All free unless you want to take an actual class in the fitness center, those are extra.
You will need long pants and socks to go ice skating and socks to use the climbing wall. They provide everything else.
I was on Freedom last summer and had zero issues with debarkation...

I am looking for something similar but I don't think ANY Houston hotels offer shuttles to the port or Galveston hotels that offer airport shuttles.
I just called Royal Caribbean and their shuttle from Hobby to the pier is $32/per person each way (so $64/person round trip). So far that is the cheapest option available even if it isn't the most convenient.

We rarely do SHIP SPONSORED excursions, but I usually book something with an independent provider.
This last cruise on the Majesty we didn't book anything and just laid on the beach in Coco Cay and wandered around the port area in Nassau.
A little bit of research will go a long way on free/cheap things to do that don't require an "excursion".

It should be offered on any ship that has a Cupcake shop.
