  1. On airlines and ships it has always been made clear to me that a helper ( caregiver) is required if the person needs one. Staff are not caregivers. That said they most certainly can hold the door for you, carry your plate, help you carry something to your table / chair . They just cannot help with your body , for fear of harm to either of you.
  2. Request all the assistance you can. They always direct wheelchairs to a separate quicker line . If you are able to push the wheelchair up the ramps you don’t have to wait for assistance. Rest assured that will be the last time you do it. For port visits they control the wheelchair. Some ports are more confusing than others, don’t be afraid to constantly ask staff “ am I in the right line?” . I’ve learned to speak loud and often. Try to have all documents ready. Unless you have The Key whatever you board with you are stuck with till the cabins open.
  3. This is true. Thankfully when I’ve cruised on 3 different cruiselines I’ve carried my daughters prescription Cbd ( for seizures) in the carryon visable to everyone and no one has said a peep. She’s not on the drug anymore ( didn’t work) so no worry anymore.
  4. No, it’s not just between you and the waiter, as you said it affects all those that dine after you. Ahh, the “ me “ generation.
  5. I’d like to do walk off but where am I walking to? Sounds like the port doesn’t have any Uber and taxis are scarce, so unless I park a rental car in the unsecured lot what are my options?
  6. I just bought my shuttle tickets yesterday, only offer Ravenna to the port and back 🥺🥺. $10 each way, we will be notified of the time later on 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.
  7. Cruise ship lifeboats are not "self-righting", meaning they will not roll back upright. They are also "semi-enclosed", meaning that if the boat is landed in an attitude that the gunwale is underwater on one side, it will fill with water, and the boat covering will also act to scoop water into the boat, and continue the roll of the boat to inverted. Now that is scary, so if a lifeboat filled with people lands sideways, everyone has to evacuate it, pronto. Scary thought.
  8. Sad part is that we ended up there ourselves and taken to the hospital. Missed the Panama Canal transit, 🥺🥺. Here is a snippet from the email I received two days ago. Maybe it will help Norwegian Jewel Medical Department HP 9865 mednr21@ncl.com
  9. On the recent sailing of the Jewel on the Panama Canal many people complained about the flight time NCL picked. Also at least one family missed the ship and boarded at the next port , Aruba.
  10. Turtles06 thank you so much for a great and detailed cruise description, I too felt like I was there. And I will be there, boarding the Jewel in Colon on Saturday 😀. You provided a great introduction for me👏🏻👏🏻
  11. Thanks for the update/ insight. Any idea how they are handling wheelchairs? I imagine they must have to contract some medical transportation ( with lifts). Luckily, we don’t embark from there, we disembark. And double lucky for us I splurged and got a suite, so that should help us disembark. 🤞🏻🤞🏻. Thanks again.
  12. I figured but I need one that is either accessible or big enough to handle 3-4 luggage and a wheelchair ( that can be disassembled). And two passengers.
  13. Hello I did a search and didn’t find this particular question, are accessible taxis in queue at PTY. Or is that something I need to arrange ahead of time? Arriving in March, TIA, Nadine
  14. Yes, I can confirm it was there in April, very small in the gym bathroom. I think it’s still on all the Jewel class ships.
  15. Stayed up to check in at 12:01, checked in but didn’t ask me to select a check in time at the pier. Odd, maybe something specific to Colon, Panama. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Yes, I checked, I am fully checked in and waiting for edocs to be uploaded.
  16. You are right, I just completed the check in for my March cruise and picking a check in time was not an option 🤷‍♀️.
  17. You are correct, people like to arrive and be onboard asap. Afternoon would be better. Pick your time 21 days before.
  18. Thank you for this information. Disembarking there on March 12 with a family member in a wheelchair, grateful I’m not embarking 👍👍. And that I splurged for a suite ( for the first time).
