  1. There were a couple of food finds that we discovered on the Jewel. Who knew that I loved Museli ? I loved it so much I had it every day in Moderno. Very different from the museli in a box. It's creamy and fruity, grainy and nutty deliciousness. Also, we loved trying the dishes in the MDR that were probably geared to crew and their countries. We LOVED the Indian food. I preferred everything that was exotic to us than anything in Tsar's. It was grand. Just not as pretty to eat at.

  2. mentally disabled reminds me of an encounter I had. We were flying from LAX to Mia for a cruise and a middle aged woman boards with her Mentally disabled daughter (about 20ish). She appeared to function at the level of about a 2 year old. So she was very excited and very loud. Of course they take the seats right behind us. So for about 3 hours the excited young lady said. " going away. going away, going away" pretty much nonstop until she fell asleep. We land go our separate ways and I forget about it. Well, we do our cruise and board the plane back to LA. Guess who walks down the isle? YUP, same family, only this time they are in the seats right in front of us. For 3 hours....."going home.....going home....going home..." Man, what are the chances;p

I'm really sorry, but until you've walked a mile in mother's shoes... your 6 hours seems a small irritation. Invest in noise cancelling headphones and you'll be happier.

  3. We truly liked Ian also. His magic show was great. He was easygoing and talked to us about what his story was. His asst. CD Kristine, was a doll. She talked with us about her life and was so caring when someone got hurt. She went and checked on her repeatedly. They certainly made the evenings fun and that's the point, right?

  4. Just a thought. We had more luck taking the sky train than in busses or cabs as traffic was NUTS! It was really easy and we felt safe. We went to Stanley Park and wish we had gone to the art museum which is right downtown. Our favorite, favorite restaurant was Cafe Medina. If we had one more day, we would have loved to gone up that highway to Whistler or gone to Victoria. Next time! We stayed in an AirBNB. We enjoy them and get good recommendations from locals.

  5. The only excursion we booked on this cruise with NCL was the River Adventure in Skagway/Haines. It was great. We loved it and had time leftover to explore Skagway. The rest we booked privately. It was our first cruise so we wanted to test out private and cruise company. All worked out. Have a wonderful time!

  6. My advice is look at the lines you are considering and then look at the cabins. There is actually some fun in making a small room work unlike a hotel. If you know you want the suite, man go for it. You will love being pampered by a butler it sounds like. We spent an enormous time on our balcony as the scenery is amazeballs and it stays light so late. The other thing we wish we did ( inside passage, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Seward) is spend more time traveling through the small towns in Alaska. The train is so great. We had friends that rented a car and went up through the Yukon. If you are in Seward on July 4, the Mountain Marathon is famous and is something very Alaskan to see.

Last piece of advice. Sounds like you need some former first time cruisers to lead the way, so we are volunteering ourselves for you to take us with you... we would like an adjoining suite.

  7. It's so funny how complicated the cruise experience is. You've been given great advice. We felt just overwhelmed at first and didn't know any of the "jargon". Start with your roll call and then the ports and you'll be fine. We were super surprised at how much we loved our first cruise. The best info we gathered was how to pack, what to bring, how to check in, where to go and looking at the Dailies( schedule) in advance. You must be so excited!

  8. I have to say that despite their really overwhelming sales tactics ( like having someone sit next to you and ask your opinion, how you deserve it, etc.) They were really accommodating when we won a raffle for a free painting. We didn't like the paintings we won and they allowed us to change it for one that we loved. It is expensive, because of the framing. But framing is expensive anyway. I would love to see people's pictures of their art.
