  1. I am an extremely nerdy planner. So...I plan by looking at maps and history of each port. And plan my time there carefully. We have had such great adventures!

Second I was given great tips by my neighbor who loved to cruise. - take a shoe organizer ( over the door) so you have extra pockets to store in, high lighter to review the days activities.

    Have fun!!

  2. I love to read. During my non cruise days (too many) I don’t have the chance to read like I would like. So I pack my kindle usually 20 books and read 5-8 while traveling. Mysteries historical settings are my favorite...especially if I’m headed there!

  3. I'm not sure what you mean by having the vows printed? They all speak English? But the very phrase is ridiculous. A vow is something that you make which never ends surely?[/

The vow statements if printed can be shared with others who are attending or helpful to those who struggle with remembering what the want to say.

Just a suggestion from someone who works with people who struggle hearing.

  4. me and my husband are renewing our Vows on Britania later on this year . Can anyone give advice tips etc also can one of your witnesses take photos of you are film the ceremony .

    Thankyou

I’ve never renewed my vows on a ship..You would want to make sure you have the vows printed for whomever is reading them to you or if your reading them to each other.

  5. International business class flights allow a pair of 32kg suitcases per person as well as a carry on bag and a laptop case or similar. Having paid for it why would we not use it ?

The smartest move we ever made was designating one piece of luggage specifically for shoes.

If I'm going to Thailand for a few weeks then shorts and T-shirts are all that's needed but a cruise is different. Several Jackets, spare trousers just in case, lots of shirts for variety and just in case and a number of footwear options.

The different watches travel as carry on with me....... :)

Ironically at work I don't have to dress up so I see cruising as a chance to scrub up for Mrs Able Seaman H.

  6. I am normally not an over packer but for cruises it is different. I don’t get to wear a large variety of clothes in my normal at home days. I work from home and live on a small farm, so when we cruise I pack a variety of beautiful clothes. And then shoes or boots to match. I leave some room to bring something back. If possible I pay someone to do my laundry before I leave... I’m on vacation and I’m enjoying every second!

  7. We just returned from a 12-night Barcelona to Venice sailing on the Spirit. This was my 10th cruise and first in a Penthouse suite (thanks to a last minute upsell).

Well as others have mentioned it is really going to be hard to not be in a suite for any future cruises. The suites are wonderful, lots of extra space that just makes your time in your room extremely enjoyable. The tub was fantastic as was the large bed with extremely comfortable luxury mattress, pillows and duvet. In the past I often said 'I don't know why anyone would spend all the extra money for a suite. You aren't in your room a lot (especially on this port intensive cruise), really only need a place to shower and sleep.' Well I now understand why people book suites......total comfort. With all the extra perks you really do feel spoiled. I don't know if I will ever be lucky enough to enjoy a suite again in the future due to the cost.....but if someone has the opportunity I would say go for it!

I was in a forward suite - 10518, butler was Clinton and concierge was Florentina.

Enjoy your cruise whatever you decide, the Spirit is a great ship.

    Sounds absolutely wonderful !

  8. Whenever o travel I look ahead to the Atm rates and usually load up a special account I have for traveling in case my card gets stolen. You will need to let your bank know so they will allow you to use it.

  9. I'm pretty serious about my coffee too. I also bring travel coffee cup that I fill up on occasion from the ships buffet area. Sometimes I pack creamers I like and a tin of ground coffee from home with some small filters I trim with my scissors. Like I said coffee freak would be closer to my description...

  10. We bought several bottles of wine and rum in Madeira- to take home as gifts, not to drink on board. Had them in my partners rucksack, put it through the scanners, walked straight on with it without a word said. If anyone had stopped us we would have happily surrendered it until the end of the cruise, like I say it wasn't for us to drink so we weren't going to pay corkage!

It might not be particularly moral, but it seemed like the only people paying corkage were those who actually volunteered to. I'm willing to bet we weren't the only ones 'smuggling' wine back on board in Madeira, although we might have been the only ones not planning to actually drink it! They had a corkage table set up just after the scanners.

Finally polished off my bottle of Passionfruit and Honey rum last weekend and I can report it was pretty good :) Don't drink wine so I can't report back on that, but I understand the wine there tastes more like port than wine.

I hadn't thought of that thanks!

  11. I think some of the notifications they sent around last month made it sound like that, but Sauer-kraut's advice is correct. On our recent cruise they had a corkage table set up at every port. We brought vodka on in St Petersburg, no problem (had to wait in line to get it back on the last night).

Great I'm looking forward to trying some new wines and bringing it home!
