  1. Notjaded, not a fishing trip as such but when we visited Ketchikan as part of the Kobe to Vancouver cruise in 2019 my husband went on The Deadliest Catch crab tour. He had a wonderful time. The excursion was very well run and they were lucky enough to see lots of other marine life. Not being crabby, I went to a totem pole museum and it was fascinating.

Will you be stopping at Prince Rupert?

  2. Techno, I well remember reading your very entertaining travelogue about your cruise with the mountain bike in 2016. Punctured in Piraeus was a great title for the thread and written by the lovely Chairsin who was a regular contributor on the Seabourn boards around that time.

  3. Catlover54 is correct in saying that the process of getting an Indian Visa for UK citizens has changed. We cannot get the e visa online but have to travel to a visa centre( there are only 3 or 4 in the whole of the Uk) for a face to face interview before being issued with a visa. We have been informed that all appointments are full until February at the earliest. I know all this as we were booked on the Singapore to Athens cruise too but we changed to a Panama Canal cruise later in the year to avoid needless hassle.

Canada is also denied the e visa scheme for some reason

  4. We disembarked Ovation in Lisbon two weeks ago ( wish we were still on board)and the list posted above by Margbem has the wines that we could choose with the exception of the Trivento Malbec.

We had a great time, met up with lots of people that we had met on previous cruises over the years, and we are still pretty rubbish at Trivia!

Shark B8, glad that you finally made it onboard. Your posts make me smile!

We are on Encore, just over half way through the Transatlantic crossing and are having a wonderful cruise. We have 547 passengers on board with 537 crew. Amazing ratio. We have had perfect sailing conditions and I hope same for you.

    Should read Ovation oops!

  7. It states quite clearly in today’s Herald:

For the optimal health of all onboard, our medical centre currently operates by appointment only.

    Seems clear enough to me!

We are on the Ovation  now and are having a great time!

547 passengers, great crew, lovely food, calm seas and warm weather.

Seabourn is going above and beyond in the most trying of times and giving us a wonderful cruise.

  8. Cojomo,  we have been in lengthy discussions with our very efficient TA( the one that Queen Elizabeth would use) this weekend .

She assures us that for our upcoming Transatlantic from Miami later this month, that Seabourn do not require the 48 hour test before arrival at the port , but that Seabourn will do their own testing at the allocated embarkation time. They do, however, advise to self test before arriving at the port.

That is for Miami, other ports may have different rules.

  9. I have just checked our booking for March on The Ovation and under Choose your Preferences it states-

Gold and Platinum ‘one complementary bag of laundry per week.’

Diamond ‘ one  complementary bag of laundry per week plus pressing’

    Elite, quite rightly,get everything.

Silver is showing as ‘ one complementary bag of laundry’ so I suspect that’s just one bag per cruise.

    Hope this helps.

  10. I can recommend The Phoenicia, it’s a Leading Hotels of the World member and is very well situated at the gates of the entrance to Valletta  Lots of good restaurants all within easy walking distance but the Palm Court Restaurant within the Hotel is superb. There are fabulous views of the Grand Harbour from some of their rooms and suites.
It’s one of our favourite hotels, we visit every year -in fact we will be there in three weeks time!

  11. I confirm that Ross Roberts was the Cruise Director from Kobe to Kodiak, he left us to attend a Cruise Directors conference that I think was being held in Seattle. New CD for 7 nights called Jim and then Jan  Stearman took over in Vancouver.

Ross was highly visible around the ship at all hours of the day, he is very approachable and friendly and a great entertainer. The show ‘Strictly Dancing with the Stripes’ was the funniest thing we have ever seen on a Seabourn ship. Ross resplendent in green tights became Michael Flatley in Riverdance and the Grand Salon was in uproar.

  12. Howarth, our cruise was on the Sojourn and as Sunviking also had the champagne in the desert in 2014 he would have been on one of the smaller ships too. It is interesting that you didn’t get this, I wonder were you on Encore?

  13. We did Athens to Dubai in 2016,  I can't remember the cost of the Petra excursion, whatever it was it was worth every penny and is one of the better Seabourn excursions that we have done. Petra is wonderful and on the way back to the ship our coach parked in an open space at Wadi Rum. Seabourn had laid on a champagne(it was Mumm as they had run out of the dreaded Feuilette) reception with caviar and canapes all served by the waitstaff who were dressed in Arabian costume. It was magical.

it was a very long day, we left just after breakfast and got back in time for dinner.

    Hope this helps.

  14. Hi wjf, we did the Legend cruise up to the North Cape in June 2014 and like Tony we had wonderful weather. The only time we wore our jackets was in Svalbard, Spitsbergen and Longyearbyen, otherwise it was sunny and warm for the 21 days with almost 22 hours of daylight.

Trollfjord with it’s waterfalls, Geirangerfjord with amazing scenery and the Flam railway ride added greatly to the experience.

We have done lots of cruising with Seabourn and this one is still our favourite!

    Enjoy!
