Has anyone used Port Parking (the one on 111 18th st.) for their Allure of the Seas cruise? Was the shuttle service convenient and fast? I usually use Park N Cruise but they are not offering parking for Allure. I am looking for indoor parking but it may be better just to use the new parking area at the new terminal.

There is new covered indoor parking in the  left area darker orange  finger of the map . Pier 14 .

I live in Galveston and can give some background.  Uber would not pay port of galveston fees which maintain rideshare waiting area parking lot.  Local paper just announced Uber has agreed to join the port of galveston and pay the fees.  Either way, my understanding is prior to this agreement Uber could drop off, but not pick up.

Supposedly effective May 1 , but everyone is saying Uber is accessing premises now anyway .

No kids here, but I did both Norway (Jewel 12 nights) and Alaska (Ovation 7 nights) last year and found Norway to be MUCH more beautiful.  Alaska is very Americanized and expensive.  Norway was quaint, quiet, and mostly off the beaten path of major tourism.  That said, I've got Round 2 of Alaska in July of this year to mix it up leaving on Brilliance from Vancouver.

I agree and with maybe Copenhagen

  5. From above article :

    John Yang says:

" It sounds like science fiction. A 5,000 mile long belt of seaweed mitt weighing more than 11 million tons is sloshing around to the Atlantic Ocean. When some of it reaches Florida, it threatens to wreak havoc in the coastal waters and on the beaches, but it is very real. It's called The Great Atlantic Sargassum belt, so big it can be seen from space spanning the tropical Atlantic from West Africa to the Caribbean."

Uber has conceded to paying access fees to Port Of Galveston .

There is a whole post that you conveniently left out, see above ^.  The condition in that picture didn't get like that overnight and I explained why.  And my comments, ALL of them are in reference to tourist venues, not a deserted island somewhere.  I stand by my reasoning that "THAT" photo was an ungroomed beach, not a tourist venue (if it is, don't go back), and so on.

It's not rocket science here.  Groomed beaches are, well, they're Groomed beaches.  They don't look like the one in that picture, and if they do, don't go back.

Galveston where we live has experienced the phenomenon . Whether  it is groomed  or ungroomed the consequences are severe . Our island a major tourist destination deals with daily maintenance of these issues and has dealt in the past with the major consequences of the the massive blobs or pods that float in our waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. With a massive invasion you do not have a choice of grooming     to put beaches and adjacent waters in enjoyable tourist activities.

THAT didn't happen overnight!  Zoom in on the picture, and look at the right at the palm line.  You can see that there is a distinct line of grayish color seaweed and rust-colored seaweed.  The grayish seaweed is decaying.  Something that takes several days to accomplish.  Therefore, this picture is misleading if its intent is to show that a well-groomed beach, at a tourist venue, has been inundated with seaweed.  Grooming of a beach if done properly is a continuous process, not a once-a-week or day activity.  It is done as needed.  This is obviously not a tourist venue, if so, it shouldn't be.  AND, I didn't say that that couldn't happen anywhere, just not at a well-groomed beach in a well-managed tourist venue, and if it does, don't go back.

We live in Galveston and traveled The Caribbean , GulfCoast and Atlantic. We have witnessed first hand the massive floating pods from Africa in the Atlantic and all over these destinations. Size of pods and Mother Nature dictate the coverage . These can be massive like the one pod presently floating in the Atlantic . . It COULD will cover a beach completely , an entire island or even the souther Gulf  shores and eastern Caribbean shores for many miles depending on the relatively and circumstances of the event.

An ungroomed beach, for sure.  That didn't just happen overnight.  Misleading photo.  As I stated, if the beach at a tourist venue is ungroomed, don't go back.  Grooming should be an ongoing activity, not just once a week, day activity, it should be done, "as needed".  This is far too late.  I don't think that is a picture of Miami/Ft. Lauderdale beach, do you?

Yes that can happen over night

depending on the size of the cover .

Shouldn't spring break be over in April or mid April?

Yes but families begin coming down and lots of day trippers for the beautiful spring weather . Remember with Dallas, Houston ,  Ft Worth , SanAntonio, Austin populations so close and Galveston being drivable, they   keep coming to the water  for for the destination .

Just what I needed to know thanks.

Remember Galveston has Spring Break, high summer season , two first class Convention Centers with events happening year around.   And cruise lines Disney Royal MSC Princess MSC and Carnival are sailing now out of Island at some point during the year .

This is similar to New Orleans . Timing is everything for hotel and vacation rental rates and the smaller crowds .

I see this was moved to the general board for Galveston, but it is a specific issue to Royals new terminal. It’s still a work in progress for leaving the terminal.

Yes It’s a private enterprise issue outside of control of Port of Galveston , terminal operation,  or of Royal Caribbean

To me this is a Lyft/Uber issue.  I have heard multiple times of cancelled rides for people in nearby hotels needing a ride to the pier for embarkation.  Their rides are cancelled because drivers want customers from pier to the airports which get them more money.  As for disembarkation, I have heard of escalating prices because the demand is higher (obviously).

We decided on two choices.  Royal Caribbean transfers or private car company/ride shuttle services.

We went with a private van shuttle service which costs a little more, but I am hoping this means no issue.

    Hallelujah
