We had our Captain's Circle "Meet the Captain" party the other night.

One of the speakers was the Loyalty Manager who gave us the passenger stats.  As might be expected, there were over 900 Elite passengers.  (The Island Princess holds 2200 passengers although I believe our current passenger load is less than 1900).

What I found surprising was that there were 270 Blue passengers - on their first ever Princess cruise.

I thought that was a large number of people that would spend nearly four months on a cruise ship without ever being on that cruise line before.

Do you think that is a surprising number?  I am interested in your thoughts.

No, not surprising at all.  In fact, we were looking at a world voyage with Cunard in comparison to the Island. Newer ship/cabin and has equally interesting ports and length.  It will be our first on Cunard and will be staying in an unfamiliar cruise for 4 months.   That's the risk we will take, only after trying we can tell.

  2. @BBurnsG550   We had expired FCC in the past and GS was happy to bring it back.  Though the amount was small even if we lost it; we won't be too upset about it.  If you can call GS again, you may get luck with a different agent.  Be admissible an oversight and see what they can help you.

it was always wiser to have the pool attendants remove the articles.

Agree.  Let the staff take care of it.  It is their job.

Any guys want to take the matter into their own hands by force taking chairs with hoggers present or hoggers absence is up to them.   It is not our way.

Can't wait to sail on the new Sun with "our own" Signature pool!

I cruise a lot out of San Francisco, it happens on every cruise.that I've been on out of SF.  When? Generally after they finish their meal but sometimes in the middle of the afternoon as well.  It is a convenient venue, since they have easy access to hot water and tea.  I've never seen anyone shutting down a game.

I would make a report to Guest Services and to the available officers onsite if they did take all the seats.

  5. I have seen people play cards in buffet during buffet close-down time, but rare.  It is exaggerated to say seeing mahjong table setup during peak eating time that is so noisy and distracting.  How possible is that?  I don't believe until I see it.

SiliconCruiser did not say the time when it occurred.  I'll take with a grain of salt.

Any officers in the buffet area would have shut it down.

Problem is that many individuals do not "hold" a table or a seat in the theater, or a lounge chair, for just five minutes.

Really? we have seen two people holding 5 seats in the theater for a lot longer than "just five minutes" right in front of us.  You can't make that "statement" if you haven't seen it all.

Now you start using "many ... do not", but in the buffet situation, you accused anyone who takes a table before getting food a "hog".  A very prejudice statement.

I believe you are a lounge chair hogger based on the above statement and all the debates in this thread.

You could always get a cup of hot coffee and leave it on the table for reservation purposes. I prefer a water travel carry bag laid out across the table and hasn't failed me yet.

Good point!  Thanks for bringing it up.  We also have our personal water bottles on the table.  On a port days, we take our backpacks with us to buffet too.  And we leave the backpacks, jackets on the chairs before heading out to get food.  On disembarkation day, we like to be the first to get off the ship and we take our carryons with us to the buffet.

It's no different other than an occasional ethnic demographic difference.  Hogs is hogs and discourteous doesn't differ though in some cultures it may seem appropriate.

Since you mentioned "demographic difference", so no hogs are the same then.  In the buffet dining setting, you can do a few things:

    1)  "be diversified"

    2)  Petition only people have food on the hands be allowed to serve coffee/drink on the table.  As those are not "personal items" but is an indication that a table has been taken.  Feel free to stalk all tables for the time when eaters return.

    3)  Dine in formal dining rooms every meal.  And best, join the Suite club, you will be instantly seated.

Lastly, quit cruising all together.  It doesn't look like it meets the expectation of your culture.  Most American do not agree with you.

Then again, perhaps I do and you don't like the answer...on a ship with many people it is important to be thoughtful and courteous.

You mixed saving a table in buffet to get food with hogging pool chairs.  They are not the same.  There is nothing with the former and terrible wrong with the latter.

  10. Can someone please verify there are multiple deposits Princess asking on the 2025 WC booking?   Initially about 10% of the booked fare which due immediately that is fine; 2nd deposit in March 2024 for another 20% of the remaining and booking will be cancelled if not received.  Didn't see anything about refunding the 1st deposit.  Almost 30% total down by next year.  Is Princess crazy?   Because the asking deposit is huge, has Princess been good in refunding WC deposits in the past years if cancel before the cancellation period for any reason?

    Thank you!

it wont seem to let me change the class, i can do the seats etc but not the class

It could be that your booking is locked.  We had similar situation.  EZ Air can make the changes for you.  They might put you on hold for a long time because they need to call up different department for unlocking before they can make the changes.

  12. 75% ship,  25% itinery.

There are no bad Alaska itineries on any ships!   Everywhere is scenic and beautiful.  Don't pick Crown because you think you will see Whales.  There is no guarantee a whale will show up then you stuck with a dated ship (sorry).

I am picky on the furnishings and drawn to updated modern stateroom/ship.  And I can't sleep outdoor on a lounge chair in open chilly air just because I am in Alaska and outdoor is so beautiful.  Someone can sleep outdoor if they want.

After a day of running around the ship, I like my cozy bed and a beautiful stateroom for a good "night -night"

    Majestic would be my recommendation.

If that's what he wants to believe, fine. Obviously,  if Princess want to track him, they can anyway via the cctv system.

Why is he worried about being tracked anyway ?

Usually, only high profile citizens that are in the top 5% of the wealthy group would be concerned of being tracked by Princess in my opinion.
