  1. We are wanting to purchase the "Voom Surf + Stream Voyage Package" for our 17 year old, so just one phone. Couple of questions:

Do we HAVE to purchase it for all 7 days of the cruise? Or can we pick and choose which days we want him using the phone? For example... if he doesn't use it AT ALL for one day, do we still get charged for that day? Basically we are wanting to try and limit his phone usage and don't want him staying on it the entire time. I guess if we have to pay for the entire week we will just have to regulate ourselves :)

Also, can anyone confirm what apps/services will work with this Wifi internet package? The phone is AT&T if that matters. Will we need to contact AT&T before leaving to see how much they will charge us to make phone calls while at sea? Will video streaming apps work like FaceTime or Tango? Will Whatsapp work for messaging? We were on NCL a few months ago and Whatsapp worked great for messaging and phone calls. Basically he just wants to get in touch with his girlfriend from time to time, either by phone call or texting or FaceTime or a combination of those. any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

  2. Ships are not like the airlines. The only restriction is that they need to be less than 50 lbs.

One of our big suitcases that will be checked in is very heavy. I have no way of weighing it at home. If it is indeed over 50 lbs what do they make us do? Start throwing away some clothes? How strictly enforced is this weight policy?

  3. The only liquids you need to worry about are alcoholic beverages. Only wine is allowed and you have to carry it on.

Okay thanks, so we can include our full-sized shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottles inside our carry-on luggage? For some reason I thought it was similar to airlines, where you can't have those full-size bottles inside your carry-on luggage and you must use the travel size bottles.

  4. Can someone please provide a link to the NCL luggage policy? My wife and I are each checking in a suitcase, and then a carry on for each. What I'm mainly wondering is if it's the same as airlines for the liquid bottle policy. Do we need to have our shampoos, conditioners, and other liquids in the travel-size bottles? Do we have to put the full size bottles into the checked in luggage (like airports)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  5. NCL has a portal or website you have to log onto the web from and they count each minute your on there.

So if your finished talking via Whatsapp you need to hang up with your caller then go back to the portal and disconnect from the wifi.

    Perfect, thanks!

  6. Ok thanks. I don't think we will get close to using 100 minutes so we should be fine.

Does it count the minutes the entire time while you're connected to the WiFi even if you aren't using it at the time? If so, it would be best to disconnect from the WiFi when not using whatsapp, correct?

  7. Can you share the internet package between devices as long as you're only using it on one device at a time? I've done that on other cruise lines, you could log off on one device and then log in on another. Thanks in advance....

Is this true for NCL? When I placed the internet package in my shopping cart on their website it asked for which person it's for. $75 per person. So how could we both use it? Would we need to give them both of our phone numbers?

  8. So just to verify... to be able to use the ship's WiFi I have to pay the $75 for 100 minutes and whatsapp would work fine with the WiFi? I just installed whatsapp on my phone and we tested it out at home. Very easy to use and seems like it would work out great. Calling and texting worked just fine here at home with whatsapp.

  9. Going on our first NCL cruise tomorrow, we are very excited to compare it to Carnival. On our Carnival cruise back in February they gave us a "fun times" card each day that lists the shows and activities for that particular day. Didn't ever have to reserve a seat for these or anything like that. Does NCL do anything similar? Will we know what's going on each day? And is it recommended to book a spot for these shows or would we be okay showing up 10-15 minutes early to get a seat? Norwegian Pearl to be exact, if that matters.

    Thanks!!

  10. Tomorrow will be my first NCL cruise. I went on Carnival back in February and they allowed each person 21+ of age bring a bottle of wine in their carry on luggage. They also allowed canned soda.

Does NCL allow you to bring a bottle of wine in your carry on?

Does NCL allow you to bring your own canned soda?

Does NCL allow you to bring your own bottled water?

  11. So if our sole intention is to make a few phone calls to home during a 7 day cruise (texting isn't important, neither is surfing the internet or Facebook etc.) then what would be the most affordable way to do that...

    1. Purchase the $75 internet package from NCL and use Whatsapp to make phone calls.

    OR

    2. Contact AT&T to see how much it would be to get an international roaming data plan to use during the cruise. For this option, would it be a flat rate price? Or would they charge by the minute for this? Also, would we be able to make calls using AT&T while at sea? Or only while at port?

Thanks for the great info so far.

  12. They don't :) That you should get from your cell phone service provider (some kind of "out of country" package). But you could always whatsapp or Skype video them via wifi. Just make sure you have wifi on only to avoid roaming costs if for some reason your phone would still try to use mobile data.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Okay thanks for this info. So with the NCL internet package I would get their wifi which would give me access to video chat apps like Skype, Tango, and Facebook messenger?

  13. I have a question about the NCL internet package. On their website the only description I see is: "

The time plan gives you 100 minutes of internet connectivity. Save $3.95 USDActivation Fee when you book online."

Can anyone please verify if that's just solely internet connection? Or do you also get cell service for phone calls and text with that? There is hardly any information regarding this on the NCL website.

    Thanks in advance.
