Just got our H5 bid for Sunday's Escape sailing!
-
We did the same thing. We saw the price drop and jumped on an H7. Glad we did.
-
How much did you bid?Just wanted to post an update for anyone on the 10/21 Getaway. Our upgrade bid was just accepted from a mid-ship mini suite to the Forward-Facing Haven (H7)! This will be our first Haven experience and we can't wait! For those who have sailed in a Haven before, is there anything we should be aware of/look to take advantage of other than the obvious amenities?

What did you bid? We're on the 10/7/18 Getaway and I received notification on 9/26 at 9:36am that we got an upgrade from a balcony room to an H7 Haven. Wahoo! Our bid was poor.Sent from my SM-G965U using Forums mobile app

I'm still relatively far out. We sail 11/4. Less than 40 daysA qualifying answer YES - because NCL has 78 days to process the upgrades (80 days from sailing till 2 days before). With the price dropping NCL is no doubt trying to wrench squeeze out the last nickel and dime out of the
consumers pocket before offering the upgrades which are for the most part a heavily discounted departure
from the original fare that a cabin was selling for.
Getting back to the original question what cruise are you on and how many days remain till the 2 day cut off ?
Even then NCL could still be processing (offers) last minute upgrades right up to registration and check-in.
The website may state the ship is SOLD OUT - but last minute circumstances customer cancellations weather
intervention etc. may create unexpected vacancies.
Does that affect the bids - YES - may defer the awarding till later after fare sales.
Does that mean that NCL is closer to processing - YES - each day closer to the 2 day cut-off means that
NCL has less time to find a customer willing to book the full or lowered fare for a cabin before having to
resort to selling at a deep discount the cabin by bid.
For NCL timing is everything !

The price just dropped on my cruise. Does that affect the bids? Does that mean they are closer to processing?

When are you sailing?Just got informed my bid from an ocean view to a balcony has been ACCEPTED!! Bid minimum...$40/pp. I think we just got lucky, I think it depends on how full the ship is.Sent from my SM-G965U using Forums mobile app

Has anyone tried this yet? We booked it for cruise on the Escape in November. Any reviews would be appreciated.

We placed two Haven bids for our Escape sailing in November. Both show multiple available suites left. My balcony class shows as sold out. Do you guys think that helps our chances?

Upgrades are charged to two guests only. 3rd person does not get charged. There are 3 of us, DD sails free. I understand bids are per person - but are they per paying person or do 3rd/4th free passengers also count?Sent from my SM-G965U using Forums mobile app

Oh yeah, it happens, but few and far between. Plenty of reports of success with above minimum, but still well within the poor range. Good Luck!
As of now there are still 7 available, so who knows...

I heard you guys arrived early due to a medical emergency? I just got off the ship Sunday and we lost 3 passengers. One passed in his cabin and drowned in Bermuda.

On the Summit, at sea. Hopefully very close to the totality of the eclipse!

I believe they do. We're off on the 20th on the Summit and saw some dailies from another Cruise Critic member who recently travelled. Karaoke was on the list of activities, probably 3 nights during the 7 day cruise.
We're on the Summit as well that week. It can't come soon enough!

Anyone know if Celebrity will be showing the fight? Maybe in the casino? I'll be on the Summit at that time.

You'll get better solar eclipse viewing, greater obscuration, if the captain is able to deviate from the normal course. Going closer to land and further south will increase obscuration. Normal course is basically diagonal course from NY to Bermuda. Changing the course to an L, and increasing speed to get further south, will improve eclipse experience. Not sure if that would justify increase fuel consumption, not how much extra fuel would be burned
That's what I'm hoping for!

We are on the same cruise and have sailed this route many times. You should note that the Summit goes slowly down to Bermuda taking 2.5 days to get there but only 1.5 days to come back to Bayonne. With departure on August 20, we probably will be no where near Bermuda.
I was just curious as to how far south of Bayonne we would be. The further south, the better.

We were close to a full eclipse on TA cruise.. I suggest you order those special glasses so you can look at it . Very few had them on our trip. They are quite cheap on Amazon and you get several pairs.. just cardboard with the proper visual protection lenses. Take extra and you will quickly have new best friends on the cruise. We were happily recipients of extras..lol
We already have them!

Check NASA site https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/
I understand that. I was just curious to see how close the ship will be.

We'll be on the Summit during the solar eclipse. This may sound like a dumb question but does anyone who sailed her before know about how far south we will be by Monday afternoon? The most complete coverage of the sun is supposed to be by Charleston. TIA.
