  1. Happy late or early Anniversary! I Look forward to hearing how you like your MC SS, we have one booked in 2025.

A couple things we learned in Luminae on Edge.

The very front little room tends to be warm, we sat there day 1 lunch and didn't like it, after eating we made a lap so we could request a section in the future!

The front 1/3 temp was good for us temp wise and a bit quieter. The back half got warmer and louder and smelled like food!

Say hello to Nia (the hostess) from Danna and Bruce!

    Enjoy

  2. Last week on Edge we filled in a form with crew names and position. When I turned it in to guest relations, the rep had me verify the picture of each person while she wrote down their ID number.

She said the amount would go on the salary card.

One of the individuals confirmed she will get the $ as long as the ID number is used.

We are on Edge now in Alaska… the day before boarding we left Summit on a Pacific Coastal… a marked difference in the vibe between ships.  Edge seems very noisy with hard flooring in the main traffic areas and everyone is directed down the same, albeit wider, corridors to get from venue to venue or restaurant.

This is a nice comparison for us, with over 30 cruises, many on Celebrity, we are able to see the positives and negatives between M and E class back to back.  While we also enjoy S class, the new direction Celebrity is taking does not seem to be the path we’re on, unfortunately… we have preferred them to the others.  Lots of loud music that makes it hard to have conversation.

We have a HAL and a RC booked for next year before another Celebrity, so we’ll see how the whole new direction thing plays out.  Nice to have plenty of options out there!

We were also on Summit and now Edge. Quite a difference. Edge has a very shopping mall feel on deck 4 & 5. I attribute some of that to the cold days and everyone being indoors. Beautiful ship but some areas are louder and more crowded than I expected.

  4. Maybe due to the late arrival in Juneau, people were lined up to exit before the gangway was open. I am going to guess several hundred. After seeing the line, we realized that perhaps retreat guests had priority, thank goodness the concierge was escorting guests to a separate line. We had an independent excursion which accommodated our delay by picking us up at the AJ dock vs the tram.

I will also be following.  We spent 40 nights on the Edge last fall boarding in Civitavecchia, transiting the Suez Canal and leaving the ship in Sydney.  The ship has some interesting features, and I will be interested in opinions as to how suitable this ship is for Alaska.  While the naturalists present their Beyond the Podium lectures in the theater, on M- and S-class ships they often are set up in the Sky Lounge with spotting scopes and so forth interacting with passengers.  I wonder where they will be on the Edge.

Hi! We cruised a few times in the past on Eclipse together.

Celia Garland is the naturalist for this cruise, I imagine she will be onboard all season. Her presentations have been in the Theatre.

I know Milos sets up in the sky lounge, doesn’t seem like Edge has a spot for that.

Indoors due to rain...or it's just cold?

I'm assuming that I will still be spending time on deck if it's not raining when we embark at the end of the month.  But it's my first cold weather cruise so I'm really not sure what to expect.

Decks are wet, no rain just misty. Cloudy, foggy. We’re going 21 kts so definitely windy.

Im sure if the sun was out people would be outside.

We’ve been to Alaska several times, I think this week will be the coldest we’ve experienced.

  7. I guess thats what happens with an early check in time. We’ve never seen that early of an option on prior cruises. Our time was 10:30. We left our room at the PP at 10:30 and were onboard about 45 min later, our room was made up but no robes, soap, etc….
We were surprised that the security was not separated by ship. Previously when boarding at Canada Place we were directed to to a Celebrity conference room thru the convention center, there was a Global Entry line for immigration in the past. Curious how long it took people who came after 11:30.

First Edge cruise, it seems crowded because everyone is indoors.

Day 2. We were supposed to be able to Tender to Avalon. Santa Catalina Island today . Not. Captain says sea conditions are to rough for Tendering.🙁.

Sun is shining and we are floating around a mile off the Island. We can See it but not Touch it.

I don’t get Seasick under Any conditions and could handle the boat ride but X has to look out for the other 99 percent.

    Nice recap of the cruise!

The cancellation of Catalina wasn’t about seasickness 😆 there was no way people could safely make it on to the tender boats.

I’m not sure why we even stopped in Victoria, with the late arrival, it made no sense. And the late announcement was also a little strange.

  9. If you have a reservation for 6,8 or whatever in specialty you’ll all be seated together. MDR is the only place where you’ll need to check in each night and give cabin numbers and names. Again, much easier for one person to do this than drag the whole group. Each time my husband went to check in for the group, he couldn't just give a number of people, he was asked who was dining.

  10. We had a group of 8 on Eclipse (Dec 2022) upon boarding we all went to the MDR to be sure our reservations were linked. Each evening we would meet up at Cellar Masters or Martini bar and one from the group would check us in with the hostess and get a pager.

The check in person needed the names and cabin number of those dining. After about 3 nights (11 night cruise) we had the same table and servers but also dined later. Since you already know times and who will be dining where and when you’re a step ahead 😆 perhaps can make a reservation when you board.

  11. I would chose an OV guarantee over an inside especially with so many sea days. I prefer some view vs no view! Once assigned and based on availability you can always ask to have your cabin switched within the same category.

Have you sailed in an inside before? If you have and don’t mind the lack of natural light, 8214 should be quiet.
