  1. Understand exactly what you're saying but when I look at the Priceline retail site I see a 3.5*+ in Ponce so maybe Ponce is not a free re-bid.

I looked again, and when I choose only Ponce it show only 3 start and lower. Are you sure you only clicked on Ponce?

By selecting each one separately you can make a list of which areas have what start choices.

Then when you actually bid you will always start with SJ 3.5, and with each re-bid choose one of the areas you already know have 3 stars or less.

I assume you are looking at the "name your own price" site. Because that is the site that will show you each area's star ratings for bidding. I wasn't sure what you meant by the Priceline Retail site.

  2. I only want to stay in San Juan (#8)...3 rooms... 1 night ...started at $80 (rejected) could have re-bid for free at $100...chose not to

went up to $85 - added Mayaguez (rejected)

went up to $90 - added Dorado (rejected)

Are there other areas I can add, still ensuring that we still stay in San Juan (#8)

Yes, the way to tell is by checking only 1 area at a time. If that area has hotels ratinged BELOW 3.5 than that would be considered a free zone. Because if you bid for 3.5 the area (like Aquadilla) doesn't have anything higher than 3 stars so it couldn't possibly award you a 3.5 star hotel and therefore your rebid offer would default back to SJ.

So Cabo Rojo, Humacao, Aquadilla, Ponce all would be valid re-bids.

DO NOT USE RIO GRANDE BECAUSE IT ONLY HAS RESORTS AND THEY ARE HIGHER THAN A 3.5 STAR (even though it is listed below the 1 star)

You want to choose re-bid zones that ONLY have hotels LOWER than the star rate you are bidding on.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Sheraton Old San Juan

    March 15 - 17, 2011

    $80 x 3 = $240

    Taxes & fees $36.84

    Total $276.84 :D

Ladeeesquire - based on your bid I started at $70, refused

    rebid free zone $73 refused

    rebid free zone $74 refused

    rebid free zone $76 refused

    decided last rebid $80 accepted

So I don't think you would have gotten it for much less. On the Sheraton website lowest price room (King bed, lower floor, no view) was $167 plus taxes and fees. We did good.

  4. Kenley is second.

I'll address the "copying" issue next week in another post.

This is the third time in this short competition, that she has somehow managed to come up with almost exact versions from other people's collections.

I'll do the research and cut and paste comparisons next week.

For someone who so adamantly claims to never watch or see anyone else's collections ever...

It's quite an amazing coincidence to somehow have done that three times in 12 episodes.

    Hmmmmm...

Is all I have to say about this one for now.

I will be anxious to hear what you have to say next week.

  5. Loved the show last night. I never cared for Kenley's designs, but based on the wedding dress challenge I agree she should compete at fashion week. I found a picture of the Mcqueen dress and Kenley really did copy it. I think the Mcqueen dress (on right) is nicer. It's a better fit.

Actually isn't that Kenley's dress on the right and McQueens dress on the left?

And I can't believe she would be so stupid as to either copy or make such an obvious look alike dress. She knows the judges would have seen the McQueen dress. What was she thinking? They are way too similiar to be a coincidence.

  6. Rami

    raterunway_04_409.jpg

And they stuck him right in the middle of the pack.

In this challenge, to me it was extremely original, and well tailored.

I also could see more women being able to wear this than Ricky's.

Also FYI this is actually a skirt and a top, so actually two separates not one dress. So considering that you could actually get three different mix and match outfits out of this one And hello! There's 501 zippers and rivets on there!

I seem to remember one of the designers in the final three last year that did the zipper thing also. I think it was with big plastic zippers but the same idea. I think the dress was yellow + green or maybe it was red. But I definately remember zippers inside out.

I also didn't think that Chris' dress was as bad as the judges implied. However I must admit that seeing it today in the picture makes it look too plain. I liked the minimal fraying.

  7. Don & Donna,

That's the same bid I did yesterday. One disadvantage is the the Sheraton Old San Juan is on the other side of the water from the PanAm pier, which is where the Celebrity ships embark. All the other cruise lines embark from the Old San Juan pier, which is next to the Sheraton. But I love Old San Juan and that will be nice for dinner.

Just a note - March 06 & 07 RCI Empress boarded at Pan American Pier also. And it is just a short cab ride anyway. Plus like you I love Old San Juan.:D

  8. I just checked the RCCL website and our cabin's been assigned to a D2, #7534 on the Adventure. It's a little more forward on the ship than we're used to. Anyone know if we should expect more motion there? It's the southern Carib, March 18th cruise so hopefully we won't experience rough seas but maybe we should ask for a cabin more in the center or aft.

Not a bad deal though - we paid for outside cabins (no balcony), and were upgraded to a balcony gty, and now to a Superior D2 on deck 7.

If you can shed any light on the location of this cabin and what you think we'll have in the way of motion, please let me know. My husband can get motion sick if it's too rough.

We were in cabin 8000 on The Empress of the Seas last March 18th. We picked the cabin ourselves because it is an oceanview that looks out the front of the ship. Just like looking out the front window of a car. It was our first cruise but we had no problem with motion. And let's face it, The Empress is a smaller ship. We enjoyed the cabin so much we booked 8004 (up front again) for this year. Same time, Same place.

I wouldn't worry about too much motion.

  9. What area does NOT have the resorts?

    Thanks for the help.

The way to figure it out is - when you get to the screen where you have to pick a zone highlight one zone only ie Dorado, when you mark the box next to Dorado with a check you then will see down below that there is no option to hightlight "Resort". So that tells you that Dorado doesn't have resorts. If I have explained it well enough you should be able to figure out the second zone. If I did a poor job then hopefully someone else can explain it better to help you figure out the second zone.

  10. There is no rule against taking alcoholic drinks on the ship, in fact you can buy alcoholic drinks in the ship's stores. The ships just don't want you taking the alcoholic drinks back to your cabin.

Yes I understand that. But why put a store at the Pan American pier, if you didn't expect the passengers to take it aboard and drink it. It is not like the store sold only special bottles not readily available in the continental U.S. or for that matter anyplace else in the world.

Maybe that's it, RCI puts the store there for passengers who are arriving from outside the US. That way they can buy it, have the ship store it and at the end of their cruise take is back home. I guess I have to stop thinking only of myself and think outside the box. This store is meant to assist other travelers and not to provide easy access for me to sneak alcohol on board.

I am sorry my sarcasm (sp) is not that great. But lets face it, RCI puts that store there, and they know passengers are going to take the bottles on board and take to their cabin. I do drink alcohol, not enough to BYOB but don't mind what others do. I just think RCI should decide one way or the other.

  11. Is there a duty free inside the ship terminal in fort lauderdale? We have been buying it and just putting it in our carry on and taking it through. This was in Barcelona and last year in san Juan. Thanks for the help. We have a lot of drinkers on the jewel in jan

That is the part that I don't understand. Last year we saw the store while boarding been in San Juan. (In fact we had already been informed of said store by cc members on this very site).

So my question is, why can you buy it right there when technically your not supposed to carry it on and take it to your cabin?

    Anybody have an answer?

  12. hmmm....let's see if i can 'splain this....

hit "quote" on the post you want to reply to.

Then you'll have the person's whole quote. Note that the beginning of the quote will show the following code [ quote= persons name] the end will have the [ /quote] ( close up the space between the [ and the next letter when you do it.

then split it up to the sentences you want to use. and put the [ quote=personsname] at the beginning and the [ /quote] at the end of the sentence.

    understand?

Thanks, actually that is very clear. So much so that it made me realize that all of your "quotes" were from the same poster. I thought they were from different posters and I just couldn't get quotes from different people on the same posting.

    Thanks Jane & Lois

Also I really enjoy reading both of your posts through out the Cruise Fashion thread. I have learned a lot.

  13. Hi Dawn, I am not Jane or Curt but I can try and help.

You can copy something from one post and paste it to another,

or if you want to quote an entire post (like I did yours) you just

click on the "quote" which is on the bottom right of every post.

Hope this helps you a bit.:)

Lois, Thank you for your help. I do know how to create (if that is the correct word) 1 quote by using the quote button, I just don't know how to do the 2 or 3 quotes. I will practice copying and pasting and see what I can do.

    Thanks again for the help.

  14. I saw on Hotwire yesterday a beachfront resort, 125.00 but I checked with Betterbidding before I took it--betterbidding was quite rude and no help. Said I needed to follow up on a post I did about Niagara Falls. When I went back to Hotwire it wasn't there. I have a SJ hotel booked( Hampton Inn & SUites) , but some of the reviews about the Caribe Hilton rooms are not very good. Has anyone actually stayed there and do priceline customers get the "not so nice" rooms???? I was surprised they would not help me on betterbidding till I told them what I did about Niagara falls???? Anyone ever encounter anything like that??? Guess maybe I better get busy and start bidding again on priceline. Thanks for any info!!

I actually canceled my registration with bidding for travel because they too were quite rude. Anyway I would go for the Carib Hilton, at $70 you can't go wrong.

I thought I got a deal yesterday morning at $100 since no one was hitting at any price below $140. This time it didn't pay to be first. DH says I shouldn't worry I still got a deal.

  15. Island Princess,

I have been trying for weeks also. In my haste earlier I dedicded to go 3* and got the Normandie for our 2 day pre-cruise. I paid $120, I should have known better based on last years Priceline prices. But I just couldn't wait. So at least Fodor's says the Normadie is their favorite for 2007. But just imagine how much I could have saved if I had just waited.

And who knew that my first bid at $100 was going to be accepted. I have been getting refused everyday for weeks and that was going from $90 to $120. Oh well live and learn. It still is cheaper than booking straight with the hotels. I am happy.

  16. Date: March 10, 2007

    Number of Nights 2

    Hotel : The Normandie

    Rating: 3 star

    Bid $100 free rebid +$22 = $122

    Taxes & fees $47.27

    Total charges $291.27

Started bidding a resort but wanted this done so bid 3 star and took free rebid of $122. The Normandie not my preference but it will do. Now I need a one night for after cruise on Mar 23rd. I think I will stick with Resort.

    Hi Laceyjane,

    How's your year going?

Bill and I are just starting to plan our tours, and I think we will do The Silvermoon II again. We had a great time. :D

I was slightly disappointed with our wining bid of the Normandie but my hopes are slightly lifted. I picked up Fodor's Caribbean 2007 and they named the Normandie as Fodor's favorite. I guess that means it can't be too bad.

  17. are in Macy's Windows from some of the recent shows.

Michael Knights vixen outfit looked good.

Surprised how bad Jeffrey's winning cotoure looked in person compared to TV.

Uli's little short dress looked amazing on TV.

Live, I couldn't see anyone buying it.

Laura' Bennet's little black lace number looked good live though.

I was surprised how some of the stuff just looked a whole lot better on TV.

    Bernadette

Thank you for your observation. It's nice to hear about how different they look in person.

I wish they had Kayne's formal gown in the window. I liked it but sometimes something like that could look way over the top in person.

  18. Oh wow, I have used priceline to get great hotel prices in San Juan but I guess I never realized I could bid for a rental car. Thanks for the info!!
