  1. Don't get the B2B "exemption" plea at all.

On a recent 35 nighter all pax required to attend a second refresh brief. Totally supported the instruction and welcome the attendance verification by cruise card initiative.

    Complacency and arrogance kill!

Was it virtually the same as the first drill?

On Ventura last week it took a while to get everyone in the lounges. The scanning of cruise cards was quick and easy (staff placed at the entrances). We got there at the time we were told to get there however it took a while to get everyone to the stations and we were sat there for a good 20/30 minutes before the announcement actually started. Once the announcement from the captain had begun to be read it was very quick however and was over within 20/25 minutes.

  2. We've literally just got off the Ventura an hour ago.

The pools felt somewhat cold but when I went in it was 25 degrees outside, so that may be why. They're cold when you get in but I found that I acclimatised within a minute or two and was fine.

The hot tubs were heated, possibly a bit too hot on occasion.

Certainly didn't ruin the holiday though. :)

  3. I'm just taking my navy and black work suits as I have them already and don't like the DJ/bow tie look.

On P&O you have to pay for soft drinks but juices are free at breakfast. Drink prices are quite fair though, I believe. :)

  4. P&O say they're all at 23 degrees celcius, all year round!

Maybe they heat the pools based on the itinerary, if they think people will use them, if there are lots of families on board etc. To save money. It's s shame.

  5. I was 34 on our first P&O cruise and we still found the age demographic on board was a lot younger than we anticipated (a lot of couples/families our age or a bit older - we didn't go away in the school holidays). We still thoroughly enjoyed it and loved being able to drop the kids off at the kids' club and just sit by the bar, watching the world go by.

Obviously it's different in every circumstance but I'd imagine the average age on fly cruises is lower as elderly people may not be keen to fly. Britannia and Azura are also family/modern ships.

    Just book it!

  6. Not sure where you got the prices but checking a major on line TA I found that Eclipse cruise only prices are similar to P&O fly cruises, but £1000pp more for fly cruises.

There are many Caribbean cruise only prices which are up to £1000pp less than P&O, but not sure I agree that flights to Florida, Dom. Rep or Puerto Rico can be had for only £850 per couple.

If you're *careful* about it and go on the right dates to nag a deal you could probably get return flights to Florida for £850 return for two people. Definitely not possible to travel to Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico on that budget though.

  7. Are the flights booked with P&O or did you book them yourself? If you booked them independently you'll need to collect the suitcases at the end of your cruise, then take them to your resort, then put them on the transfer to the airport/check them on your flight.

  8. I don't see the fuss about the Dreamliner either. It would make flying no less stressful IMO! I believe I'm on a Dreamliner (albeit with Virgin) this summer, but I'm not 100% sure.

Going to Virgin from Thomson would feel like an upgrade to me.

  9. Our first NCL holiday was on the Epic and we found her comparable to a resort - the lido is quite loud and it may be hard to find a quiet area unless like us you have a balcony. Apart from this she's still a wonderful ship and we had a great holiday. I can't really comment on the service anymore as we went 5 1/2 years ago! For a first cruise though the Epic's great.

  10. The Med in October seems like a safe bet - even though it's October it's early October. The Med should still be warm then from my experience (honeymoon in Rome in late October was about 18 a day if I recall correctly, which is a nice strolling temperature). If you go away in October you also get to spend a bit of the colder months somewhere warmer. There would be more ports on the cruise, but obviously there are more sea days.

  11. By gum Dan m'lad...Yes, long journeys to Europe. Done it half a dozen times over the years. That is why we are doing B2B cruises on Adonia plus a nieces wedding at Stow in the Cotswolds, plus some more motoring around England's green and pleasant land. Away a couple of months. Always have a couple of nights stopover on the 24 hour flights too.

Have ye not been to the land down under? I have been to Notts. Not much of Nottingham Forest left.

If you're going to fly that long you might as well get the most out of it!

I've never been to Oz before but I'd like to. I think it's a bit far though as I loathe flying and after I've come back from Florida this year I don't think I want to fly long haul again unless it's for work. Even when I'm travelling for work in business it still seems really cramped and stressful. Blegh. I really don't pay attention to football. I'm not really a sports person, which is ironic because I live somewhat close to Trent bridge and I dislike cricket as well.

Anyway, good luck packing everything (including your formal wear). Starting now you might finish by May ;)

I'm somewhat surprised at how little men wear suits instead of tuxes. Each to their own I guess!

  12. Hi,

On our cruise in April we dock at Porto and having never been before, it'd be wonderful if I could get a bit of help!

-Do cruise ships dock in the new Matoshinos terminal or the Leixoes terminal?

-Where should I go to go to book a Douro river cruise? P&O offer a tour but it involves wine tasting and I think that would be extremely boring for the kids (along with them being under the drink age, of course!)

-How easy is it to get from the dock to Porto centre? I've heard there's a tram but none of us speak Portuguese and we don't know where we'd be docking. Is it easy to find?

(Didn't post in ports as P&O seem to have most the cruises going to Porto)

    Thanks,

    Dan
