  1. Just curious which ship as the E class do not have Persian Gardens and their spa has different rules/prices.
  2. We have had no issues using a bank ATM throughout Europe - be sure to look carefully at the amount of currency as sometimes there are smaller amounts if you scroll further down the screen. Also choose charge in local currency (do not convert) as your bank will give you a more favorable rate.
  3. We will be disembarking at Manhattan terminal (scheduled for 5:30 so I hope we can walk off by 7:00). Do I need to order a car or will there be cabs/Uber available. We want a ride to Penn Station to take the train the EWR. Any suggestions?
  4. We have scheduled our last two trips with a TA from the US to Europe then land travel and river cruise. As the land travel and river cruise were filled with days of walking and exploring, it was great to arrive rested and without jet lag. We depart again at the beginning of August for another paired trip to Europe and back.
  5. We choose based on itinerary - just back from B2B on the Summit, Northbound from Vancouver on the Summit which includes Hubbard Glacier (much more impressive than Dawes/Tracey Arm glacier front though we have enjoyed those as well). Stayed on board for the Southbound sailing and had a second gorgeous sailing in to Hubbard Glacier. Summit suited our needs just fine and we enjoyed the smaller size to disembark and avoid lines in the buffet.
  6. Also consider when Easter falls - this can impact closures and crowds. The weather should be lovely.
  7. Just back from B2B out of Vancouver on the Summit. We wanted to see Hubbard again as it is spectacular and have the time, sailed Vancouver to Seward and stayed on for the return. Was blessed with two days the Captain was able to take the ship in quite close. Very different from Dawes experience but at Dawes the expedition boat excursion was wonderful and sailed us along the coast to meet the ship in Juneau - saw beautiful wildlife on that sail back.
  8. I choose to wear an analog watch while traveling to assure I can keep up with ship time. Phone is left in airplane mode as well as data roaming turned off until I choose for them to be on. Also do not have the phone auto select time zone. Just works for me.
  9. Only one stop down by the port. There are other stops but it will depend on your specific hotel. There were signs at the airport - you will walk across the street towards the garage - lots of signage. Ticket machines are at the entrance and easy to use.
  10. DH renewed his online in February - approval very quickly and then card arrived in the mail. Total time was about 2 weeks.
  11. We sailed that route in fall and did not need anything more than a rain jacket over a long sleeve tee. It was very temperate until we passed out into the Atlantic - then very warm the rest of the sailing. I did have a light sweater which I wore when out on deck at night due mostly to the wind. The ocean was still warm and we have had two calm and lovely crossings in the fall.
  12. What ship and which cabin are you in already?
  13. Just used the light rail this past week and it was a breeze to board. Disembarked the ship at 0800 and walked to the train station (not easy of there is mobility issues or a lot of luggage). Purchased tickets, stepped on board and were at airport check in just before 9 am. Not for everyone but we think it adds to the adventure. Total cost $7.70 USD.
  14. Have not done the experience but a heads up - just off 14 sailing in Alaska and we had clouds every day until the final one so you cannot count on seeing a sunset. Our sunset was Inside passage day on the way back south and was spectacular.
  15. Well I missed important information when putting up this post - it was a B2B ending up in Vancouver. The only rough sailing was Seward back to Hubbard and it was just a bit of a roll. And we were absolutely blessed with sunshine and calm waters on the final sail day down the Inside passage.
  16. At this point in life we are looking for specific itineraries and will book when the cruise is released for best pricing - only once did the price of the cabin decrease but we have watched it climb it almost triple as well. And we tend to package together more than one cruise and land time. Our Australia, NZ and South Pacific was booked for 2021 and we will finally be sailing it next spring. We do have a river cruise booked for 2026 and will book a TA over as soon as they are released - love getting to Europe with no jet lag after a 12-14 night sail for about the price of premium economy plane seats.
  17. Yes. Was not originally part of the plan, but when hearing of 12 nights around beautiful NZ it seemed like a great use of the long flight down (or so I told DH).
  18. Looks like we will be sailing with you if it is the Edge though not in the Retreat. Are you staying on for the 3 night sailing between NZ and departing on the transpacific? We are going to stay in Sydney for those three days, an extra treat for this trip.
  19. Having been lucky enough to sail some longer cruises I would find the food and life very repetitive. Using SM as an example he still works, has a condo and housekeeper in Miami so on turn around he takes his suitcase of dirty clothes home and picks up a suitcase of clean clothes. Also he arranges medical appointments for Saturdays. He maintains that Miami address so has someone reviewing mail and other needs such as medication renewals. Not sure of any legal requirements for maintains Medicare and supplemental insurance coverage.
  20. Spent years traveling weekly for work - give me my two wheeled (good quality roller blade type wheels recessed into the bag body) any day. Works on all surfaces and last much longer. Saw many a traveler trying to use their spinners after one or two wheels were no longer there.
  21. Just had a great time sailing the Summit from Vancouver to Seward - two visits to Hubbard Glacier are amazing. Quick response to the ever present timing of flights question. We were off the ship at 0800 (walk off), handed our Canadian form to the agent, up the hill to the train station, paid $7.70 USD for two tickets and were at the airport at 0850. Then the process through Immigration was facial recognition which took maybe three minutes (no line at that specific time). Easiest, nicest airport we have transit in a long time. Just our experience but it was easy to make our 11:15 flight.
  22. We have always drunk the tap water as well as using a refillable bottle - hate seeing the amount of single use bottles in the recycle bins when the water is fine. Some people will report swelling and attribute it to the water but a big part is the food in large preparation may have more salt than one is used to at home.
  23. We have been very happy in hiking pants which are water resistant and we're all we ever needed.
