  2. Thanks for your reply Bob, this is our first cruise so not sure what to expect very much looking forward to it :D

mrsmoo89 we are on this cruise with you and it is our very first one too. I emailed RCI asking for details of the entertainment but have yet to receive a reply. Only one sailing of this itinerary the week before us so we may need to wait til then to find out alot of things. I am hoping someone on the May 7 sailing will do a live review.

  3. I want to email to request the egg crates on our beds and to ask about the evening entertinment and request a window table in the MDR. I sent this via email on the contact us section of the website. Got an email back saying it had been referred to the UK office and nothing since. Is there a separate reservations email I should do this through. Travelling from Ireland.

  4. Hi All. Sailing my first cruise with RCI in six weeks. I am only 157cm and can't see myself being able to carry off a full length evening gown for the formal nights. I don't cope well with high heels, so usually go for some type medium block heel or wedges. I am not used to dressing up either but am looking forward to the chance to do so but need advice n the type of dresses that would be ok for formal night and that would suit my short height and rather round belly.

  5. I'm not 100% sure that dining reservations are the same for European bookings, but in this case I believe the TA and/or RCI gave out incorrect info.

The TA thought it was 60 days ahead of sailing but couldn't get the cruise planner to book it anymore than I could. Apparently RCI changed the timeline. Will keep trying anyway.

  6. Most of the time in the Med, you are going on tours that go into cathedrals or other religious sites where you can't wear shorts as your knees and elbows must be covered. For walking around town, it is better to wear resort wear or something business casual. I'm just not sure where you would wear shorts in the Med unless you are going on a sailboat or hiking.

That said, weather in May can range from cool and rainy to hot. Bring layers and an umbrella. I usually wear a sundress and then have a knit sweater to wear over it. But I also bring long pants and a jacket and then layer. For example, we did a cruise that started in Barcelona and when we got to Brugge, it was very cool outside, so I wore pants and 2 tops with the jacket and was warm enough. The rest of the cruise it was hot so I wore sundresses and my knit sweater. We typically cruise in early May as the weather is mild and it is enjoyable to walk around outside.

I am aware of the dress code for churches etc. so wont be wearing them in port if visiting such places. I thought they would be ok for the Amalfi coast though and my DIY tour of Nice/Cannes as wont be visiting churches or museums in them places. Mostly though I would wear them on deck on the two days I will be all day on board.

  7. Fletch, thanks for the link to the permanent shows. Looks good. I can't believe how early in the day the activities start. I will be doing alot of port visits, so will have early starts anyway but have two days on board and was hoping to sleep in.lol. Are the fitness classes free, like the fab abs and the stretching?

Enjoy the rest of the cruise. Loving the review.

  8. Online charts suggest an average of 20-23. Just not sure that is hot enough for shorts. Inland tours like Florence and southern areas like Naples may be warmer. Best thing is to check forecast just before leaving. I have to buy shorts etc for this cruise as haven't worn them for over 15 years.

  9. Hi. I am wondering about weather in May in the western Mediterranean...South of France and West of Italy. Is it worthwhile bring shorts and sundresses or would it be warm enough for them. Would summer trousers be better? I am also wondering about how warm or cold the cabins are at night generally? Will be with Royal Caribbean. Many thanks

  10. It's possible that the times you were looking for are booked.

Reservations are not mandatory. You can just show up when you want. However, if you want reservations, go to the MTD desk as soon as you board. You cannot make MTD reservations via email.

It didn't even ask me or give me a chance to enter any times. Just as soon as I clicked on dining it said I couldnt make any reservations prior to boarding. I know we can show up but dont want to be queuing for ages and I wanted to request a window table if possible.

  11. Hi all. Our TA advised us to book at least the first two nights dining times. We have MTD and will be n Freedom in May. I tried to book times on the website and it is telling me I can't book anything prior to boarding. Is this right or should I email reservations to make bookings?

  12. Hello everyone. My first time to post on this thread. I am going on my first ever cruise in May. I started my most recent weight loss efforts early December 2016 and have lost about 15lbs with a few blips along the way. I am hoping to have another 14lbs gone by end of April and will then start my clothes shopping.

One question I have for you seasoned cruisers, have any of you requested the low fat meals from your cruise line? I am half afraid to do this in case it is just horrible. Not worried about breakfast really as like fruit and cereal then. If there is plenty of salad and cold meat I will fine with that. Dinner, being more of a formal meal will be my time of temptation, as will ports of call, especially if weather is nice. Cocktails and mocktails will be a danger for me too, as will the pool deck ice cream machine.

I am currently full of good intentions about exercising during the cruise, either by walking on port days, climbing slopes and then the jogging track which I hope to walk. I am signing up to a 10km walk about ten days after my cruise as well so hoping that will help keep me in check during that week too.

Good luck everyone and well done on the weight lost so far.
