So what happened with your bid?

I just bid minimum on an Oceanview for the Christmas sailing from Tampa at the 30 day mark. The cruise shows sold out for all cabins except Inside. I am happy with my Inside location and a bit nervous about where the OV could be assigned. However, I am sailing solo and have never had an OV and didn't want to bid the price for the balcony, so if I get the upgrade the room will be a bit of a research project and I'll learn something either way for future cruises.

Just got back yesterday-what an amazing trip!

As for your question, a few weeks after I put in my bid, I checked the prices and the price of a balcony was only $100 more than what I was bidding so I called and upgraded.  By doing this, I also got all of the promotions of the balcony room.  It was a great decision for us and I would definitely do it again.  So my advice is to keep watching those prices!

    DESCRIPTION PROMO CODE QUANTITY
    3 Meal Specialty Dining Package DINPK3 2
Adult Ultimate Beverage Package BEVPK1 2
    $50 On-Board Credit Certificate per cabin OB50 2
    Prepaid Service Charge PSCREC 2

I have it as well. It was a latitude promo. Mine also shows up under purchased items. This page is from my E-Docs.

If it is a latitudes reward, is it per cabin then I assume?  This is why my SO got one under his name versus us both receiving one?

Good thread! As far as mainstream goes, that’s not a bad selection at all!

Dumb question - does the ultimate beverage package also cover the Red Bull’s? Does it also cover a shot of vodka? You see where I’m going with this.

I have not tried because I don't drink them but from what I have heard, a can of Red Bull on its own is not covered but if you order a red bull and vodka, it is covered under the UBP.

  4. I have this too-it appears about two weeks ago under my SO's name (even though the booking is in mine).  It may be a latitudes reward now that I am reading it here because for a long time my booking did not have my SO's latitudes number until we checked in officially about three weeks ago and then it appeared a week later.  We are also supposed to get some OBC from our third party booking agency-either way I am happy to have it 🙂

I'm not sure which beach excursion you are considering, but Passion Island is awesome. Nice boat ride over, they fawn over you with service, good meal, drinks are included. My absolute favorite part, they have frigand hammocks in the ocean. I laid there for about 30 minutes chatting with another NCL traveler, we were both in heaven. Next time my ship stops in Cozumel I will return.

This is actually the exact one we want to do! I’m excited to hear it was so awesome. We are really looking forward to it!

  6. Weird-I just called the excursion line as recommended-they asked me to pay upfront and when I told them I just wanted to reserve a spot, I was told I could not do this and had to pay upfront.  The only way to use OBC was to book on the ship 😞

Not so worried about it selling out but I did want everything planned out so I didn't have to worry about it the day of.

  7. Thanks to those who told me about the shore excursion number-I had no clue you could do this.  One question in this regard-if I do call and reserve, do I have to do anything when I board?  I know you all have said it will get charged to my account once onboard but will I also need to confirm as well or will I be all set? Trying to limit the number of desks I need to visit when I get onboard 🙂

  8. My SO and I have received a good amount of OBC from NCL that we would like to use on an excursion which we would not normally take otherwise-nothing fancy, just a beach day in Cozumel.  However, since we want to use OBC we can't book until we get on the ship.  We will definitely book it the minute we get on the ship but I was wondering if a lot of these beach excursions sell out prior to boarding.

  9. Echoing what another post said-if it does not matter to you either way, put in a bid you are comfortable with and just see what happens.  If you definitely know you want the balcony experience, watch the pricing of your sailing and call in to upgrade your room if a balcony prices at something you are happy with.  That's what I just did for my Thanksgiving sailing.  The price to upgrade was only $100 more than my bid so I thought it was worth it.  Little did I know, I would also get the promotions that came with it so I ended up with the dining package and $200 OBC.  I did not get to pick my balcony (so you have to be okay with taking that chance) but ended up getting assigned a great midship balcony (which was technically an upgrade from what I bought because I should have had a forward hull balcony)

  10. Teppenyaki and Cagneys have exactly the same dress code as the rest of the restaurants (in fact slightly below the aft dining room on most ships).

Le Bistro, along with that aft dining room has the slightly stricter dress code, in that you aren’t allowed to wear shorts.

The details are on the NCL website.

Thank you! I was asking because I read a review that stated men had to wear jackets in Le Bistro

  11. We had one for the first time this past March on the Jade. It was the last available option in the balcony category that we wanted. I took it thinking we would try to upgrade later through the bidding process but that was not meant to be. I decided to just go with an open mind and not let it get to me.

I have to say…we were pleasantly surprised and actually loved our balcony! It was very private and shielded from the sun which we like. It was totally fine. We would not hesitate to book one again if we had to and if that's what was given to us as guarantee I would be totally fine with it. :)

Take a look at my video below. There are quite a few shots of us on the balcony and it should give you a good idea of what it will be like.

We were assigned an enclosed balcony on the Jade two years ago, and enjoyed it much more than we expected. There is more protection from sun and wind, and felt much more private. In fact, on our latest cruise on the Star, a Panama Canal cruise, we found we really missed the protection from the hot sun!

If you get one of these balcony rooms, enjoy yourself. You will be pretty far forward, but it is quiet, and you should be pretty close to the forward elevators. I would happily stay in one again.

Thank you for the feedback! I have read a few reviews of people who enjoyed them so I am actually starting to look forward to potentially having one!

Thank you for the reply-that looks lovely!

  13. So I just upgraded from an inside to a balcony guarantee. I was in the upgrade program but saw the price drop to only $100 more than my upgrade bid and my boyfriend has never sailed with a balcony so very excited!

Anyways, looking at my room category, I am pretty sure I will be assigned to one of the enclosed balconies. They actually look kind of unique and nice but I was wondering about those who have experienced them before. Likes/dislikes?

  14. We have tendered several times and never found it awful. If you have a mobility problem, yes, otherwise it is ok. I know it isn't the best way, but not all that awful either

I've tendered before as well and never minded it until last year's trip on the Pearl. We tendered in Roatan and I don't think we were originally supposed to. The tenders were just the ships lifeboats so super small (watched one poor girl get seasick), we had to wait for hours in the morning to get tender tickets and get off and then still missed our excursion :(

Still had a good time of course but I would hate to do that again at two different stops this year.

  15. We're booked on the Pearl in December and just got a notice that our Harvest Caye stop has been rerouted to Belize City. We're rather disappointed in the change as we enjoyed Harvest Caye last year on the Jade it was a nice change to Belize City. Belize City is a tender port and quite a dump. Last time we visited we tendered off and walked around for 20 minutes and tendered back to the ship. This year we won't bother and we'll stay on board.

That’s disappointing to hear! We had to tender in roatan last year and it was awful. I’d hate to have two days like that in a row!
