  1. Your cruise is a closed loop cruise starting and ending in Seattle, right? Victoria is just a port of call. No different than any other port of call in North America or the Caribbean.

    If the cruise was originating in Canada, then you would have to have a passport.

    Yes you are correct, It is a closed loop from Seattle, Our AAA TA told us no passport is needed, not even in Victoria! I always check here as well for those that have made the same trip! Thanks

  2. Here's the thing...should anything happen and you wind up needing to fly home from Canada, you will have to obtain a US passport BEFORE you can fly home. I would NEVER take any trip outside the US without a passport for this reason even though this cruise only has 1 stop in Canada. There is a strong likelihood that you won't have an emergency of any kind where you must fly home from Victoria but what if something completely unforeseen happens?

    Yes we are aware of this, Thanks!

  3. We will be on Royal and they don't require a passport, even though they recommend them! I just wasn't sure about Canada and the rules in Victoria. We will also be in Skagway! Had no idea it was an Island cause I have never been there. I had heard that there was a train ride you can take but if it crosses into other areas then I will make sure not to do that. Walking around is fine if there are shops etc? Thanks

    Does Bermuda or Barbados require Passports?

    Did you check the times that you are in each port? A lot of times people don't check how long they are in each port. Especially with sailing out of Seattle, the port times are not usually great. Also, the majority of the time the large cruise ships do not get all the way up Tracy Fjord to get to the glacier. Victoria is just a stop they must make as they need to stop in a foreign port due to some law. The time in Victoria when cruising out of Seattle is usually only the evening hours so if you are planning on really enjoying the Gardens or other sights in Victoria, please check your time schedule.

    Since this is your first Alaska cruise, perhaps you should consider a round trip Vancouver or a one way trip so it will include either Hubbard Glacier or Glacier Bay National Park. I just hope you are not disappointed by not going to either of the two large glaciers.

    I could not tell which ship you are on being you just said "Royal". If you are on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas your time in Victoria is good being 9 to 6 pm but you still do not go to either of the large glaciers.

    Check over your itinerary real well. Some people just think "Oh, Wow" I am going to Alaska but do not really examine their itinerary.

    Whatever....Any day on a cruise is better than a Work day.

    Yes we will be on Explorer of the Seas, times in each port are below:

    Juneau = 12 Noon - 9 Pm

    Skagway = 7am - 8:30 Pm

    Tracy Arm Fjords & Glacier = 7 Am - 12 Pm (Not sure if its Noon or Midnight)

    Victoria = 9 Am - 6 Pm

  5. Happy New Years Eve to everyone!!

    So we are booked on Royal for July 13th to Alaska from Seattle, we have never been to Alaska or Canada. We are going to the following ports Alaska Inside Passage, Juneau, Skagway, Tracy Arm Fjords & Glacier, Victoria British Columbia. We have a Virtual Balcony booked as well.

    What type of weather can we expect in 2nd week of July, What type of clothing do we need to pack? Is it warm enough to swim in Pools,Jacuzzi? We are use to sailing the Caribbean so this will be a 1st for us. We have heard so many great things about Alaska cruises that we wanted to do it at least once.

    What things can we do while in Alaska, Canada?

    I know these questions have been asked before and I am still reading the boards but wanted to ask anyway. Thanks

  6. Sadly we didn't make the Harmony cruise because we didn't like the change to a later date, plus changed to a 4-day then to cozumel. We booked this over a year ago and just wasn't happy with the changes. Plus, my hubby was worried about not getting back in time to go back to work. So Harmony will be in a future sailing to PRico. All the damage to the different Islands I imagine will change a lot of ports that Royal can go to for awhile. So sad!

  7. They will add 50% of what you paid for to your onboard credit when you go on the ship. You can use some, all, or none of it. Whatever isn't used will go to your credit card.

    And what if we want a full 100% refund? I mean this was a high priced cruise so they are charging $1,000 just for a 4 day to Cozumel? Seems super high, then what happens to $70 cost from classic soda package, that would be a lot less if on 4 day?

    Then there's the issue of getting a new flight booked if there are any now at this rate!

  8. I want them to wait. I want to go on this cruise if it all possible.

    We want to go too but won't be able to if they wait until Fri to say Yay or Nay, Our flight leaves Thurs afternoon and My hubby can't miss extra days from work then there's the flight issue if it can't be changed to make it should they still go etc. :( :mad:

  9. I have sailed 7 times in the last 12 years in SEPTEMBER and have never had bad weather.....at all, ever....as a matter of fact, last years Anthem sailing was the smoothest the Captain said they had all season....

    and being from the East Coast, I know the "hurricane" season inside and out...just a very active period this year....and I feel for ya....I am due to go out on 9/9 myself.....

    Have been on 3 in September with perfect weather, this will be the 1st sept upset (Hurricane) issue :o

  10. You're misreading it.

    They will be making decisions for cruises SCHEDULED TO DEPART on Friday by this evening. Sounds like they will also be updating Sat/Sunday cruises potentially this evening as well rather than on Wednesday as originally planned (though I wouldn't be stunned to hear that they'll give final word tomorrow).

    The call center isn't going to tell you anything until an official decision is reached. So wait a few hours and see what this evening brings.

    Thank you!! I don't have twitter so couldn't read much of what was stated. When I called the airlines they said they hadn't cancelled any flights to the Tampa area and not sure they would, maybe that will change, not sure.

  11. Very sorry that you are frustrated about your vacation. By the way, people on the islands you so desperately need to visit are going to die. Maybe you can cruise over and help with clean up efforts? You will get the information you need by Thursday. If you aren't satisfied with the information, stay home. At the moment, you should be mentally prepared for your cruise to be canceled. A massive, catastrophic hurricane is headed to Florida the same weekend you would like to go... If it ends up working out, good for you. If not, it's fine.

    Most people down here are trying to get gas and supplies and many are considering evacuating by Friday. We are expecting tropical storm force winds by Friday. You want to fly into that so bad for a cruise?

    And by the way, Irma is now officially the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded. Just relax, disasters happen. Your cruise is not important.

    Excuse me..... Don't be rude. My concern is not whether the ship goes out or not at this point due to a Hurricane. I am concerned about not being given accurate info so I don't go to the airport expecting to fly out and lose money etc. People fly in from all over the world to cruise and need ample time to make other arrangements etc. Is it too much to ask to be properly informed about whether or not its going to be cancelled? If I am suppose to sail on 9/9 waiting until that date or 9/8 to inform me doesn't help my flight situation when im flying out 2 days prior and can't change flights,cancel etc. I am well aware of the Hurricane so don't treat me as if I am not aware or don't care or lack concern!!

  12. We are planned to fly out of middle Tn on Thurs going into Tampa to meet cousins then drive to Ft Lauderdale to catch Harmony on Sat. I called southwest to see if any flights are or will be cancelled to Tampa and as of right now nothing has been cancelled, these are non refundable flights so I sure hope if Royal doesn't let us know anything before Sat for sure that the trip Ins will pay for the flights? this is so frustrating.

  13. We liked ours. We knew all about them when we booked a last minute Navi out of Galveston. You do get the noises, when we were in port you could hear the Stevedores yelling at one another and clanging etc. I fell asleep to it waiting for Muster drill. Later we got the same views as if we had a starboard balcony along with the noises.

    I would book it again over a regular interior or even a Promenade.

    Of course I knew it wasn't a real balcony, that's what Virtual means.

    Thank you for showing a picture, we have a Virtual Balcony booked on Harmony is a couple weeks and we are excited to see/have it. Nice to know it has sound etc. We have had a regular balcony once and we never sat out there except before bed or upon waking so I think its a cool feature.
