We got back from our second Britannia staycation last week. No dancing on the dance floor, but you can dance at your table in the live lounge, but no dancing ON the tables permitted. They were doing line dancing classes. We didn't partake, but I assume the dancers were in a .......line.🤣

That is disappointing to hear as the live music and dancing in the evenings is a big part of our enjoyment on a cruise.  When we were onboard Celebrity Silhouette  in early July, dancing was allowed and I have heard that Saga also allow dancing with your own partner although (understandably) there are currently no dance hosts.

I would hope that taking into account everyone’s vaccination status P&O will follow suit in allowing us to dance with our own partner very soon.

Our next cruise will be Britannia on the 25th September sailing.

We are on the Med 9th Oct I think it is just freedom for the staycations we have booked first sitting

I agree that the freedom dining is probably only for the staycation cruises.
We are booked on the 25th September cruise which is the first leaving British waters and our booking confirmation shows we are booked at the second sitting in the main dining room.

  3. Sandancer … I absolutely agree with Avril.
We find every cruise is different and we have enjoyed cruises on ships that have had rotten reviews from other passengers.  We always find things to like on every voyage.
Some of our cruises rate more highly than others but having cruised many times and with different lines we have never returned from a cruise thinking “Never again”.

We too did our first Marella cruise a couple of years ago and although it was a different experience than we have had on Celebrity or Cunard we had a great time.
Keep an open mind👍🏻😁!! Enjoy your cruise 🥂

Hello , my wife and I are about to enjoy our first cruise on Britannia starting 22 Aug for 4 n, it seemed a great price for a cruise taster so off we go. Regarding the Celebration Night, I definitely have nothing that is suitably formal and I'm a bit against buying new or hiring a DJ specifically at the moment. I do have a palish grey suit and can accessorise that so would that do? Is the general experience that compliance with black tie and DJs is pretty good, if somebody has pictures from the last cruise  and can post then that would also be good to see.

If not , then perhaps I do need to hire one.

Lastly, if I didn't what are the alternatives on board, can we squirrel ourselves away in a bar somewhere and where do we eat if the MDH is formal?

Just want to be comfortable in our surroundings and not rock the boat so to speak 🙂.

Hello Squink … in our experience you will be absolutely fine wearing your pale grey suit and you certainly won’t have to hide away in the corner of a bar !!
Not every gentleman will be wearing a dinner suit and many will be in lounge suits. As long as you are smartly dressed with a tie you should be welcomed in the main dining room so do not fret about the dress code.
Not everyone dresses to the nines and many people both ladies and gentlemen just go for a smarter than casual look.  Enjoy your cruise.

we arrived in Falmouth around 230pm Friday and are staying overnight. All the tours have been rearranged so we don’t miss any, just not on the original day. All the included tours are this afternoon. I joined the last one leaving at 3.45pm cor 3 hours, driving from Falmouth, through Penryn to the mining areas around Redruth and then to Marazion for a photo stop opposite St Michael’s Mount. Then we returned via Helston to the ship. It was frustrating seeing the town all lit up but unable to go ashore. However, as the winds increased the temptation waned. After dinner I went to the Britannia Ouge for some light music and to watch the dancing. No dance hosts are on board due to Covid.

Please can I ask if guests are permitted to do the usual ballroom/Latin/ jiving and jigging type dancing to the live music?   You say there are no dance hosts on your cruise which is to expected but I am curious to know what is allowed for those who enjoy taking to the dance floor !!

Just disembarked Britannia today and can report that 90% of the men I saw in the Atrium or MDR on Celebration night were in dinner  suits or dark lounge suits.

Thank you for reporting back  ….. My husband and I find that very pleasing to know as we are amongst the guests who enjoy dressing up for the formal nights !!

We are eagerly anticipating our Britannia cruise later next month.

  7. We thoroughly enjoyed the last evening of our eight night cruise on board Silhouette.  As you say, the musical extravaganza held in the Grand Foyer was the most exhilarating experience. The musicians all seemed to be enjoying it as much as the guests. It was most definitely a night to remember !!

Hope you enjoyed your cruise as much we did ours.

  8. Please could I ask if you could tell us how the access to the aft terrace works

ie …. Is there access to the aft terrace via the cabin decks A,B,C,D and E meaning there is footfall past the aft cabins?     Or is access only via Main, Promenade and Lido decks?
We would appreciate it very much if you are able to let us know as it will help us choose our cabin. Thank you.

We really enjoy reading about all your experiences so thank you for continuing to post for us.

  9. That isn’t the same person then … The show we saw and remember so well was another fabulous performer (am I allowed to name her on here??🤔 don’t want to breach the rules !!)  She was wonderful anyway.

We will now look out for Kerry Ellis and hope to see her on board one day !!

    Thank you.

  10. Hello Host Sharon …. it’s great reading your comments as you experience your cruise.  It feels as if we are almost there with you so thank you for taking the time to report back to us.

When you have a moment would you let us know the name of the solo singer act (with small orchestra) who you referred to and enjoyed so much please?
I am wondering if it could be the same amazingly talented person who my husband and I will never forget seeing on a cruise ship.
For us the entertainment and everything else on board is a huge part of our cruising enjoyment so please keep posting so that we can continue to share your experience. Thank you !! 🥂😁

What sort of thing were people wearing on the Chic Night? Were the any men wearing Black Tie (DJs) on other nights?

We were on 9th July cruise and a minority (probably 20%) of gentlemen wore a DJ and the rest were dressed fairly casually although many wore lounge suits which is exactly what my husband wears when he leaves home each morning and heads to his office.  Hence he was wearing a D.J and very handsome he looked too !!
I wore a full length gown on the first night and a cocktail length on the second both of which I would describe as very much “evening wear” as they are quite “dressy”

Ladies in general seemed more keen to dress up but there weren’t very many extremely glamorous outfits. Most wore cocktail length although there were some full length evening dresses.

I would conclude that whatever you feel comfortable in will look fine and fit in perfectly.  If you want to get really glammed up then go for it !!
There was a broad spectrum of interpretation of the “Chic Night” dress code.

    Thanks for your review!

Did you visit any of the speciality restaurants?

No, but we had Luminae as we were in a suite and therefore we didn’t  book into the speciality restaurants however people we spoke to on board commented that they had enjoyed them all … particularly Qsine which was a fun experience.

A question fir those who’ve sailed already re suite / retreat guests check in - is there a dedicated check in and luggage drop for suite guests at Southampton?

    many thanks

Not on last weeks cruise but then there were less than 900 passengers and it wasn’t really required at our boarding time of 12 to 12.30.
However once check in was complete we were waved straight through to board the ship which didn’t seem to be the case for everyone.
We had booked a Sky Suite and we sat down to dine in Luminae before 12.30 !! Our luggage had arrived by the time we had finished our lunch.
A perk (we believe this was for suite passengers only 🤔) that we took advantage of, was that we had a dedicated luggage collection service which enabled us to put our luggage out for collection until 7am on the morning of departure. Luminae was open from 6.30am to 8am on the morning we disembarked.

  14. We were on board Silhouette last week and apart from wearing masks when moving around the ship, only having a limited number of passengers on board and a rule of four for the lifts everything was virtually the same as our past Celebrity cruises.

The live music was great and we were even able to dance when we chose to.
Most people did not wear a mask once seated or when dancing.  This may be different on the present cruise and the one that was prior to ours, I can only report what we saw happening whilst we were onboard last week.   The Celebrity staff did not object to people removing their masks when seated and we didn’t see anything being enforced.    People seemed to be given the freedom to choose what they wanted to do and to chat and intermingle here and there. Perhaps this was as a result of everyone having the pre boarding PCR test plus double vaccination.

The tours were different with only a few people on each one but it worked well enough, however I think the big issue for some people was that we weren’t allowed to roam freely and wander around once off the ship.  We enjoyed The Beatles Story and Titanic Exhibition both of which were well organised.

Nothing had changed so much that it failed to resemble cruising pre Covid, it was just a little different and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
Life onboard is still fabulous !!

  15. We disembarked Celebrity Silhouette yesterday after the most wonderful 8 night cruise.

To everyone who is worried in any way about the PCR tests etc. your concerns are completely unfounded.  From our experience Celebrity do everything they can to help anyone who has had difficulties and they are incredibly reassuring and helpful at the port.
They really do not want passengers to be stressed or worried about being left behind and they make it all as easy as possible.

Unless you are unfortunate enough to test positive you will get on board.
Once on board it’s very reassuring to know that you are in the safest environment Celebrity have been able to create for everyone.

The ship is beautiful, the crew are fantastic and you will have the most amazing time.  Happy holidays everyone. Cruising is back !! 🥂

It’s probably a port rather than P&O decision to remove the porters, but given its freedumb day tomorrow perhaps they will return.

We will be cruising on Britannia in September but have also just disembarked Celebrity Silhouette and our vehicle was parked at AB parking.

The porters there descended on our vehicle the moment we pulled up and they took our cases for us so I wouldn’t presume that it’s a port issue.

We walked across the road to check in and by the time we had eaten lunch our luggage was outside our door.
