If you can cancel and get 100% refund.....do it ASAP.  We were on June 30 Oasis sailing with over 6800 (double occupany is 5400 but lots of rooms with 3 and 4 to total 6800) guests plus crew for a total of 11,000. Only great part was travelling and spending time with with Family!!!! Everything else was chaos!!!

We already submitted it a week ago, still no news from them.

  2. You don't have to give your carry on luggage to the porters to be put on the carts (maybe) to be crushed/spilled on/left in the rain/dropped in the sea/delayed an delivered long after you go to bed. If it fits through the security scanner before you check in, you can carry it on yourself. I do it every time. I believe the maximum dimensions are 24" wide x 16" tall, length isn't an issue. These dimensions are larger than max. allowable carry on size.

    Thats interesting to know.

  3. Please do not confuse a dislike for some recent US policies as a dislike for the US people. It is that sort of connection that lead to intolerance and hatred.

BTW, If I was an American citizen, I wouldn't be leaving the country, as getting back in may be a problem. It may be Muslims today, who may be next?

The Jews? Hindus? Buddhists? green people? No idea.

Bannon doesn't particularly like anyone but white christians.

  4. See I don't agree.

Hate comes from the person. Only one of the candidates was, and has been big on the hate speech.

That's not a comment on their abilities, but it's up to the individual whether they want to be divisive, or inclusive. Trump is big on the former. Hilary (and Obama), not so much.

When you have a leader big on hate speech and having advisers close to him that have advocated for racism, war, violence and intolerance, there is no surprise when some people emulate them. Or think it is ok to emulate them.

  5. The biggest problem is people currently on cruise ships. People affected and planning a cruise with US port involved will know. The question is if affected people will get a refund for their cruise/hotels or chance to reschedule. Major airlines does refund tickets purchased before January 28, 2017.

I'm a bit amazed with the number of people affected by the new rules. In a very small country like Denmark it's a total of 60.000 people with dual citizen ship from banned countries - 1.2% of the total population.

I didnt get a refund. And I didnt have an insurance.

  6. Visas were mentioned in regard to the countries being visited on the cruise itinerary and not for re-entering the US. Somebody carrying a GC but has a Vietnamese passport for example, would need visas for some Caribbean countries.

US border agents can look at the circumstances that might suggest somebody has abandoned the US as their primary residence. On a cruise that starts and ends in the US it's probably not a problem. But if the person was originally a citizen of the country at the embarkation port then it might raise a red flag. Perhaps the poster who cancelled his cruise over the EO has some concerns that would single him out for scrutiny.

Not as per RCL recommedations. Not all ports outside of US require visa. I am a GC holder and I have to inquire about this everytime I book a cruise.

Abandoning of GC is only looked at if the person has not come back in 6 months or a 1 year. I know this because one of relatives abandoned a green card and came in after 2 years, they will still reluctant to take her green card back and kept asking her if she wanted to keep it.

I was the poster that cancelled the cruise. I am an Indian, not even muslim, not on the list of countries banned, and I have my GC and I have never been stopped for secondary processing since my H1B and GC days. BUT- since this craziness happened on Friday, I do not want to risk anything.

Besides that I had a case of food poisoning, no GC or no GC, i couldnt make the trip anyway.

Forgot to add, since I am a brown petite female, I do get those fancy wipes and go through the body scan every single time.

  7. Guess that it about time that I ask what the EO is?????

Some of my feelings about why Germany and other EU countries no longer want to accept refugees is due to increased terrorism in the past few months. Coincidentally, we were in Monte Carlo - 14 miles away from the tragedy in Nice (when people that were shopping were run down). Many people no longer want to cruise to that part of the world. Unfortunately (and I believe this 100%), a few terrorists managed to get into to some countries along with refugees. It is very sad.

As I've said, the U.S. Border Patrol has over-reacted by stopping people that should be able to come to the U.S. Yes - it should have been sorted out first but it wasn't.

Sorry but I cannot compare the Holocaust to what is going on now. My DH was alive during the Holocaust (lived in London and was evacuated 24 hours before London was bombed - he was away from his parents for 4 years - to keep him safe). He watches documentaries about this time in his life almost daily. This is an area that I am quite familiar with (via him as I was not born yet).

Had to laugh about your last comment (not at you - just about the situation). If no one in the world wants the immigrants except Canada, why not let them go there? Is it a cop out - absolutely! We live near Canada and I've been worried about them for some time. They have loads of open spaces - have been accepting immigrants for years and, IMO, are at risk of being taken over from one very strong country (do not want to go there lest it should happen and put the U.S. in real jeopardy).

In any case, I'm not trying to argue - just stating facts and opinions as I know them.

P.S. I did Google "EO" and what came up made absolutely no sense.

Yes because that is what immigrants have planned to do. Go through the systematic process of being immigrated that takes about 5-10 years per person, and in about 100 years they will take over your country.

I see a lot of older people being paranoid about situations that may never happen. What is even more scary? Lack of health insurance.

Hate telling people they cannot be saved because they cannot afford treatment. And with the repealing of ACA, it is going to get worse.

    Stay safe and healthy everyone.

  8. calliope cruiser, US immigration would not know if you are a dual passport holder. All a dual passport holder would have to do is present only their Canadian passport - most people with dual citizenship present that passport which is most expedient for entering the country in question.

In regards to refugees, since 2013, the US has taken in 70,000 per year. In 2015, Obama took in 12,000 Syrians and in 2016, he took in 13,000 - all included in that 70,000 figure. The US has been taking in refugees from many different countries, not just Syria.

BTW, Obama also suspended immigration from Iraq for 9 months - he just managed to keep it a secret and the press didn't publicize it until several years after it happened. In fact, if you look at the historical record, most of the recent US presidents over the past 30 years have issued a similar order at one time or another. So what is going on is not unusual at all. Also you might find this information interesting:

    http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/liberal-activist-soros-funding/2017/01/29/id/770919/

Suspending the VWP and banning/blocking already issued visas and green cards are two VERY different things.

Stop blaming things on Obama, and stop subscribing to alternative facts. Only makes one dumber, not enlightened.

Pseudo President Bannon and his flunky Drumpf executed something so rash, there is no precedent. Read the complete EO and compare it to what you keep calling 'similar to Obama'.

And yes US immigration does know if you have dual citizenships. Do you think they hired idiots? There is a database at immigration processing that screens these very things! Especially people who have dual citizenships. You really ought to read up on DHS/Border security and how thorough they are.

  9. From the standpoint of a U.K. Citizen, we've always hated going through US immigration: surly, unfriendly, slow but seemed thorough. This 'every person from these countries is a potential extremist' is such a narrow minded and insensitive idea. How could he fail to understand the real life day to day impact this has on genuine hard working/studying immigrants that have already established lives in the US.

I know immigration is a mess in the U.K. currently but looking from here over the pond things seems pretty bad. If this is the start of his immigration policy implementation I fear what's next.

I understand how you feel, but I have nothing but respect and empathy for DHS, even more so now.

They know it is a harrowing experience, but they do their best at times to be very respectable. Watcher Border security on Netflix.

My personal experience with them has been pleasant.

Right now, they are very empathetic to all non-US citizens coming in, but have to abide by their supervisors.

  10. It's an alternative fact.

I understand the reasoning behind all these extra security measures, but extending the ban to green card holders?

So unreasonable. I was vetted thoroughly, years of travel history, clearance certificates. It took me a year and a lawyer and tons of documents to get this GC.

This is home for me. If I were ever refused entry back into US, where else would I go? :(

  11. not so much. people who were otherwise not affected by the ban as written have been denied re entry or boarding to return to the US. its a case of not knowing for certain who is and is not exempt at the moment and officials are playing it safe by denying.

Which is why I was asked to travel only if emergency.

None of this matters for me now, since I found out I have had food poisoning since yesterday. I thought it was the nerves over all this chaos.

I guess my trip wasn't meant to be.

  12. If you are detained and/or asked to surrender your green card, the ACLU advises you not to surrender your green card and call the ACLU. Better to err or the side of caution because there is no one that can tell you that countries other than those currently banned will be the last ones on the list.

That is currently the big concern at ACLU and NYC airports. That the EO was executed so hastily, and the stay was granted along with protests to piss of Trump even more to expand the list, rather than dismiss it.

  13. If your passport is not from one of the seven countries as you say there's no reason to cancel. Tens of thousands of green card holders exit and re-enter daily.

Some of us green card holders at JFK stayed back because of the potential of being additionally screened before entering the country. Even if we werent on those 7 countries.

  14. And given that Trump said more countries will be added to the list, I don't think it's safe for anyone who isn't a US citizen to try to enter or re enter the US without a passport, and as much extra documentation as possible. Take EVERYTHING with you - green card, visas, passport, DL - whatever you think might be needed. This is a very uncertain, precarious, time.

Yes thats what ACLU and JFK official said. I am a GC card holder from a country not from those 7 countries. The said dont travel outside of US, cruise or not, unless it is an emergency. Had to cancel my cruise that sailed today :(

  15. As of 5pm this date. A Federal Supreme Court Judge has approved that anyone in transit, on a holiday cruise that departed from a US Port, valid green cards, and travel visas already in place can still travel to and through the US.

Correct, its for already sailed cruises, but not for cruises after Friday :(:(

  16. I am a green card holder, currently in NYC. I am not one of the 7 countries banned.

I was sailing on Navigator of the seas today

I called RCL and told them I spoke to ACLU and airport official at JFK/LGA who advised not to travel unless emergency since the EO has been vague on instructions it is better to get a waiver/permission or something from the consulate before leaving US.

I hope they can offer some refund towards my next sailing.

I had booked with AA flying from NYC to Miami and they did not refund :(:

Already $275 down the drain, but I can hardly enjoy a vacation not knowing if I will be allowed to get home :eek:

This is my home. And I do have a genuine fear of being detained or such every since the days of my visa applications.

They vetted me - it took them about a year and tons of documents. :(
