  1. The major decision will be whether to stay in Brooklyn or Manhattan. Upscale Brooklyn hotels these days aren’t dramatically less expensive than their manhattan counterparts. It’s easy to get to Red Hook from either place via Uber, taxi, or even ferry. Like another poster said- there’s nothing there right by the pier (it’s a former industrial zone that was blighted and is slowly turning residential) so you’re commuting in anyway.

    Thank you!

  2. What is the exact date you need a hotel? What is your hotel budget? Number of people? Any special requirements? What airport are you flying into? Do you have any precruise sightseeing requirements in NYC?

Bottom line - there are no hotels right at the port, but there are lots of hotels in Brooklyn as well as elsewhere. Your budget and exact date are going to determine your choices.

may 16. sail 17th. arrive JFK

  3. Which cruise lines / ships have you sailed previously that you enjoyed?

  4. Family chose BOS. They also requested mini fridge months prior to sailing only to be told on board ‘all fridges were being used’. As they had a toddler- this made milk bottles difficult to keep cool. In my original post I was simply stating my observations on RC and BoS. This was our 15th cruise. I’m well aware of research

  5. A body soap dispenser. Regarding bottled water- other lines place water in staterooms and charge you accordingly. Usually liter- sized. Brilliance sold off-label water (small) for $2.50. No ice buckets or robes either. It was a different exp. on BoS than other cruise lines.

  6. briefly:1st time on RC. Ship is small. Small annoyances like no shampoo or lotion in bathrooms, no bottled water in staterooms. the mini bars do not keep drinks cold...more like 50 degrees. Very thin walls-our neighbors were loud talkers. Lunch in Windjammer-fair. Mostly left overs from the Main dining room the night before.

  7. Hopefully RCI will let guests use internet or phones to call home to assure loved ones. It's the least they could do.

    :(

Two of my friends are on Serenade now. I so hope they did not decide to take this tour. They had not made any plans prior to sailing other than enjoy the casino. Now I will have to worry until the ship returns.
  8. The ship docks in Southampton at 5:00 a.m. Can anyone tell me what the earliest disembarkation time is likely to be? We can carry off our own bags if that helps. Trying to establish a pick-up time for transportation to Gatwick following our cruise and hoping to be okay for an 11 a.m. flight.

I have also heard that we don't clear customs in Southampton, is that correct? (We are from Canada).

    Thanks!

we had 7am disembarkation. We walked right off, nothing to declare in customers and out we went within 10 minutes. Taxi's are very expensive $180 pounds to Heathrow. We cabbed it to Southampton train station to Paddington. we spent a few days in London.

  9. Does Princess provide free transportation from the Dublin pier to downtown where we can catch the hop on hop off bus? Likewise, is there transportation from the pier to downtown in Belfast? If not, does anyone know the best way to get from pier to downtown?

yes, they do but i found Belfast & Dublin really hard to get around. We just got off the May 25th British Isles. The hop on hop off will be MUCh more $$$ in these ports than in London, where we spent the whole day seeing everything on the 'Grand Tour Hop on Hop Off. In Belfast & Dublin it could be pouring rain , as it was for us, which makes it even more frustrating. Don't waste money on the Belfast Titanic. Not worth it, even at a senior discount.

The Bahamas changes their laws to allow shops to open.

I can't remember if it included casinos, or not.

They wanted to keep the ships from sailing away at 5:00pm, so

the cruisers had more time to spend money on land.

On a HAL cruise last year, they opened the casino after we were delayed waiting for a med-Vac.
