1. Are the AFT balcony cabins worth the $? Any privacy?

I really love aft balcony cabins, but they are pricey. On an Alaska cruise, we splurged & had an aft balcony. Ours was on the deck that was right below the out door buffet. It was awful. Almost every day we had some nit wit that wanted to feed the fish throw bread or french fries down on us & I would have to go up there and let them know that we were not hungry, LOL. Garbage from the buffet would be on our balcony every morning & that's was yucky. Also, we had some rainey days, and at least on our balcony, we had a little strip of shelter & the rest was exposed to the elements.

I don't know about the lower aft balconies, so do some research before you book. I wish I had. The aft balconies can be great if you choose wisely

2.
If you have a butler you will be buttled whether you like it or not. ;) (It's an old fashioned term.)
You actually joined CC before I did! If a had ever 'seen' you around I certainly wouldn't have stolen your name. Oh well, great minds think alike. :D
I probably won't get "Buttled" unless the upgrade fairy comes to visit.
Yes, great minds do think alike.I don't post very often ( I'm shy.LOL) , so no stealing involved. I actually think your screen name is more clever than mine, and I'm guessing you like Alaska as much as I do.
3. One thing that, as far as I'm aware is pretty well guaranteed is that if you purchase beforehand then you won't get charged tax, nor will you be charged for any drinks as you have the package right from the start.

Well there's another one that is unclear. The person I learned about the UBP from told me she purchased it online before the cruise & was definitely charged tax, LOL. One reason I was trying to find a clear answer is because, if the drinks I get before buying the package are not included, than I think it might be a "wash" with buying the package first & paying the tax. I'm going to need a drink by the time I figure this out:confused:

4. Hi,

I was just looking for some clarification because I'v seen conflicting posts.

I have seen that if I buy the UBP while in port in NY, I will be charged tax, but if I wait till we in international waters, no tax, but other post said "No tax in port & yet another post said "Pay tax in port or out @ sea"

Then I read that the drinks bought prior to the purchase of the UBP will be included. Yet another post said "Nope"

Anyone out there with a clear answer??? Beuler?... Beuler?

Thans

5. When we took an upsell to the owners suite on our Jade cruise we paid a total price of $750 and nothing else to upgrade. We paid something like $6,000 for the suite we originally booked(at that time the owners suite was priced at $10k) so after the upsell we ended up paying $6750 for the owners suite which I think was a great deal.

WOW!!! That is a "suite" deal!!! Thank you for the info. Now I get to watch for price drops, LOL

6. Congrats on scoring the Owners suite!!! Can someone explain the up sell for me. Are you paying $1000 each or in total, and is that subject to added taxes? For example, your original price + tax, and now $1000 above that total, and more taxes.

I often read people getting these great deals, but I am never sure if the offer is just slightly lower than the price would have been at the time I originally book (and couldn't afford it, LOL) or if it is below or at the current asking price.

As the cruise date gets closer, I get an "anything goes" state of mind, so I would like to know if offered a "big" up sell, if it really was a deal.

Thanks & happy cruising all

7. Love the review!!! I was thinking about getting the UBP, so I have questions. I enjoy a few froo-froo drinks like Pina-coladas. (I can drink 'em, but I don't think I can spell 'em) Anyway, I figured that without the souvenir glass, it might be $8.50, does that sound right, and do you remember which beers aren't included.

Thanks for all the info

8. Hint...we were in cabin 11182 which was right near the elevators in the first half of the ship. Being in this cabin meant that we never had to walk a long distance from the elevator, and in essence, cut down on the size of the ship for us. Check out cabins near the front elevators on all floors to minimize walking and the size of the ship.

I booked 11872, right near the aft elevator, but it wasn't because I did my research. It just happened to be what the offered, LOL!!! Thank you again for all the great info!

9. Thank you guys for the info. I also noticed that I have so many typo's in my posts that it might have been necessary to use "google translate" to read them, LOL. Oh & I didn't know about the concierge, thanks!

10. Hi, I love reading your review!!! I just booked the Breakaway for Sept. I'm very excited, but unlike the other NCL ships I've been on, this one is so big that I'm am starting my research now so that I don't miss anything, LOL! I have a question. I recently became Platinum, and this will be my 1st cruise where I get to enjoy a complimentary dinner in a specialty restuarant. Do I need to book this, & if I book it, will the Beakaway know that it is the comped benifit, & lastly, could I wait untill I'm on the ship?

Thanks
