were you able to book this? I have been reading that the train isn't going into Canada this year.

I'm not the OP of the post you're inquiring about but I had the same tour booked for my cruise and it was canceled. It is no longer bookable as the train is not going into Canada.

I just posted this in another thread but I never received an email about this! Major bummer as I literally just booked an excursion in Ketchikan this afternoon with an 8am start time. Guess I need to cancel it. This might explain why half of the excursions became unavailable to book on their website.

Just wanted to post an update… I reached out to Alaska Shore Excursions to see if my excursion would still be possible (My family booked a private Hummer tour with guide) as there is at 8am departure and they said it shouldn’t be a problem because I have a “whole hour” to get there in time. I hope they are right. 😕

I received an email yesterday from Royal Caribbean that due to port congestion at the Ketchikan port  our ship, Ovation of the Seas will dock at Ward Cove.  We are to dock there Aug 14, 2022.

I am on the same sailing and didn't receive this email! Ugh. I just booked an excursion (today) with AlaskaShoreExcursions - who were so helpful - for 8am. Guess I will need to cancel? This is turning into a nightmare with excursions being canceled/unbookable for us.

If you book directly, you may have to walk up to 1/2 mile or less to the station vs getting on one of the cars closer to the ship that are reserved for ship excursions.

Hmm ok. Thanks 🙂 It doesn't seem to matter anymore though, as they are apparently now sold out on the WPYR site too  😞

The White Pass & Yukon train is still well worth doing the roundtrip to the summit, especially if you have not done it before. You should have plenty of time for that and still time to explore downtown Skagway.

If you are not interested in the train, see if  an excursion to the Kroschel Wildlife Center in Haines is offered. It requires riding the ferry to / from Haines, so I would book through the ship. It is an interesting and unique experience.

We are definitely interested in the train. RCL currently doesn’t have the option to book available, presumably because they’re offering it to passengers who booked the CAN trips to this one. Worried if we don’t book anything we will get shut out.

if we book through WPYR directly, how do we get to the train from the cruise port?

  7. This is so sad. We are having such awful luck with our Alaska excursions 😞

We are on the Ovation in August and unfortunately the new tours Chilkoot is offering don’t align with our itinerary (we dock at 11am and are in port until 8pm).

Unsure what to do now. Feeling defeated as we have been unable to book the excursions we want in Ketchikan either.

  8. Update: I called RCL again and my card was charged AGAIN with no resolve. They put an IT ticket in but they said it could take a week and is no guarantee I will get this since now he says there are only “2 spots left”. I asked why others are able to book it while I’m not and he didn’t know. He then tried to sell me a photo package! :(

  9. I am having this same issue for an August 2022 cruise to Alaska! I tried to purchase an excursion in Ketchikan, I received an error. I asked my Dad (We are using his card for this one) if he received a notice from his bank about trying to make a (possibly flagged as unusual) charge. He said no. So, I called RCL on Saturday around 5:45pm. The representative tried to book and also failed. She told me she would not be able to forward me to anyone else, as they close at 6:00pm (It was now 5:58). She said she will put a note on my account. I said well will someone call me back? She said if I wish, I said yes. Sunday comes around, no call. I try to book it again (now, using my credit card) and it failed. I called RCL again, the representative tried, she said she got the excursion and asked for my email to send me the confirmation. I gave it to her, she told me I would receive it shortly. I asked for a confirmation number in the meantime and she gave me one. Over an hour goes by, it's still not in my planner and I did not receive an email. I call RCL again. The representative this time said there is no record of a confirmation, nothing in my file. She sees a note from other reps but nothing has been charged or is pending. She asks me for the number on the excursion, I tell her - she then reads back the excursion and I tell her No and tell her the name of the excursion, She then looks it up by name and finds it; she asks if I want her to book the excursion. I said no thank you and I decided to try again Monday. Monday rolls around, and I see I have a charge! Oy. Does anyone know the best way to go about this? Feeling defeated after getting no where with the reps. Should I just dispute it with my CC?

  10. Hi everyone. First time poster. I've done lots of googling but answers seem to vary.

My Mom and I are taking a mother/daughter cruise with our two friends (another mother/daughter duo) in July on the Carnival Sunshine. We booked two reservations under the same account and both have the 8:15 (late) dining option. We are thinking of switching to YTD because we think it will just work better for us.

So, my question is, do you know which dining room (Sunrise or Sunset) is for which? It says on Cruise Critic's main review of the Sunshine that Fixed time is in Sunrise, but, other places I've read it says it's in Sunset. TYIA.

Also - the reason we are thinking of switching is because I read somewhere we might miss some shows by having the late dining? Is that true? I read somewhere the adult comedy show usually takes place during the late seating time?
