If they are planning that, then why did they institute the 70 plus doctor's note?
Could have something to do with the President announcing a National Emergency at 3pm. Perhaps the government is closing the ports.

Read section 6i of your cruise contract. I says in the event Royal Cancels you will get a full a refund.

I think he's setting up for cancellations and encouraging TA's to not panic and be patient.
Agree with this. I think cancellations are common sense at this point. Cruising during this and having another major outbreak is only going to do more damage to the industry.

What is Richard Fain saying in this video?
It was a video sent out to TAs. It was kind of pointless and doesn't answer any questions.

I don't see the reason for closing the port - unless it's preventing groups of more than 250 per the governors order. The virus is already here. These leaders still think its a "foreign disease". Sorry, not anymore.
Closing schools for two weeks does what exactly? It's already been shown that kids are pretty immune to this virus. It's the elderly and unhealthy. So close the casinos. Close the senior social clubs.
There are a lot of staff in those school that are not young. Kids are not immune to the virus they just don't the symptoms that are a severe but they can certainly spread the virus.
Right now it's all about prevention as much as possible. We don't have near the medical facilities necessary to handle a major outbreak. Look at what is happening in Italy they have more beds per one thousand people than the US and they are completely overwhelmed.

San Diego public officials have just declared (3-12-2020) the County of San Diego to be an area of community transmission of the virus and have recommended that all individuals over the age of 60 minimize being in areas that involve contact with the public. They have also ordered the cancellation of gatherings involving 250 or more individuals. I have no idea how this will be dealt with by Holland America concerning their scheduled departures.
HAL won't have a choice is the county closes the cruise port. The state Maryland closed the Baltimore cruise port today and likely it won't be the last.

The "low" infection rate in the US is almost certainly due to the woeful lack of testing. South Korea tests 10000 people per day. The US still hasn't tested that many to date. Time to wake up and get serious.
Agree the US was woefully unprepared for this outbreak and is going to pay for for a while. The last 24hrs has been insane with all of the closures. Hopefully Hal decides to put passengers health before profits like some other lines have already done. Sometimes you need to protect people from themselves.

Doesn't directly effect HAL but interesting none the less. The Governor of Maryland has closed the Baltimore Cruise Ship Terminal.

Carnival had $518m in cash and $4.7b in customer deposits as-of 11/30/2019. They physically cannot refund more than ~10% of their bookings before they run out of cash.

They are most likely counting on a bailout from the federal government and hoping people take the increased FCC. -

Pressure from customers cancelling or trying to push off cruises to a later date? What pressure are you speaking of?
Cruise lines in general are going to be under a lot to pressure to shut down as the virus spreads. Either they are going to shut themselves down or the government is going to do it. Princess made a responsible decision and I expect most lines will do the same. The cruising industry as a whole is going to be damaged by this virus.

The Diamond and Grand issues could have happend to any cruise line and they certainly won't be the last ships quarantined.- 3

A company with decisive leadership.
Agree with this. I expected most lines to follow suite eventually as the pressure from their customers are only going to ramped up now.

Will be interesting to see if other lines follow suit.

Really interesting development. Passengers over 70 would need a doctor's note to board a cruise ship

Please stop canceling. This is media blown out of proportion like always
do you ever look up how many people get sick and or worse from flu in the USA every single year
please don’t fall into the media trap or political agenda possibly to crumble the country by scaring the nation for no reason
pleas live your life. You have a better chance of getting stuck by lighting in a rain storm . Do you run and hide when it’s raining??
It's more the fear of being quarantined for folks. Some companies are also requiring employees to wait 2 weeks before returning to work if they leave the country.

These are common with big box TA. Some even charge fees to process price adjustments. Always ask about any fees.

Quick question for you...we are in the 50% loss of cost for another few days (April 18th sailing) So, do we get 50% of the cost of the cruise towards a future cruise, and 50% returned to us? Thanks, I appreciate your posting, as we are trying to decide to sail or rebook.
That is correct. I believe the taxes and fees are returned to the CC as well.- 1

Can someone tell me where the above that I've underlined came from?? I don't see it on HAL's website. My final payment for our June 13th sailing from due on March 1st to the big box TA. It's sitting right now on my credit card, but I haven't paid it yet. I'm on hold right now with the big box TA hoping I can hold off making final payment until April 1st.
This appears to be from a communication sent directly to TAs.
